Review: We signed a contract with this company on 9/24/13. He gave us a completion deadline of 2 weeks. This included sanding/staining the upstairs, installing engineered hard wood floors down stairs and putting in tile in the kitchen. The first week, the crew, who were unprofessional at that, got to the house at 130, was there for 30 mins, then took a lunch break for an hour then came back for about an hour then left for the day. They completed the staining of the upstairs but made a mess of the stairs and did not clean it up as I have been informed the company is supposed to do. Dale Wood, the company owner, told us that the engineered hard wood floors would start to be installed the week of Oct 14. We talked to him one other time after that and he gave another time frame for the floors to come which was 10/24 and now we cannot reach him at all. The floors did not come and they still have not come to this day. We have called him multiple times in the past few weeks with NO RETURN PHONE CALL as of yet. A friend who referred his business to us got in touch with him and he claims he has been arrested as of 10/28 and is in the hospital as of today with no one handling his affairs while he is unable to do it himself. We also got in touch with the company who Dale ordered the floors from, they told us they sent the floors to him and he did not pay upon delivery and they sent the floors back to the company. We were also informed that he took our money and paid off other debt with it which is why he could not pay for the floors when it was delivered. I understand at this point that there was not a formal contract signed but he took the deposit of over $12,000 and cashed the check.Desired Settlement: We want a refund of all money paid with interest, due to the unacceptable timeframe it has been and still no dilvery of services, the unsatisfactory conduct of the employees as well as not cleaning up as they are to do, the owner of the company not returning phone calls, broken promises, not calling to inform us that they will not be coming to the house as they have promised, and the complete lack of professionalism of the company overall.

Review: This company asked for and was given a large sum of "up-front" money for floor refinishing work, and carpet removal and installation of same, and laying of hardwoods in kitchen. They never completed the job, rarely came to work. Took one entire month to do work that other professional floor people said could easily have been completed in seven days (includes the work on the staircase to the second floor). They, not one time, worked at this project for more than four hours any given day. Would not show up for days at a time with no communication telling us why or when they planned on returning. When we would ask the workers about something, or try and point out something that we felt was not quite right, they would become surly. The owner of the company never came to check on the job but one time when one of his men - who we were told by other workers was only to put in the new stair treads, and not apply any stain - did just that and the color was hideous. He was here two other times - the day he secured the job in a pushy manner by telling us he was really booked up until the first of the coming year, and also unless we signed up that day, could not guarantee the price of the wood flooring in the kitchen. Asked for 75% front money which every single person - in the business or not - said they had never heard of, and then when asked if he was licensed and carried insurance, said that he was and did, and would send copies to us when his men came to start the work. We never received any such. We now know he is NOT licensed in Amherst County, where we live, nor is he licensed in the City of Lynchburg. The second time he was in our home was to again get money for the additional $3,000.00 we paid him to do the steps. He was more than willing to come for money but, other than the one time which was really pertaining to the extra $3,000 on the steps, he never came back to see how the job was going or how it ended up (as much as it did). There is so very much more I could explain about how bad a business man this person really is, but this is already long. Hearing nothing but bad about this man and his operation of this company and after having other men in the building/remodeling business look at the work and advising us how to move forward, we decided that we had no choice but to let them finish the small remaining part of the house they were then working on, asking for the return of the remainder of our money, and ridding ourselves of Dale Woods and Wood's Flooring & More, Inc. All this time, the entire month of having these men in and out of our home, at any time they chose to come and to go, leaving telephone and text messages that for the most part, were ignored, then last week Mr. Woods agreed to come to our home on Friday. Sept. 13th, with the $5,550.00 by 5:00 P.M. (we have the text messages of our back and forth conversations and his agreeing to this request, plus many other text messages of our trying to make contact with this man) - he did not show at our home and did not telephone or otherwise make any contact with us until today, when in total frustration, we contacted the authorities in Amherst County for their help as we have been advised that this could possibly be a criminal case consisting of fraud and possibly even theft. A Magistrate assigned a case number of [redacted], an investigation is now underway, and Mr. Wood was contacted today by the sheriff's office, after which he immediately texted us with ridiculous messages that he, himself, already knew the answers to from previous messages from us. Also we have an appointment in October with a Lynchburg attorney who is an expert in Contractor Law as it concerns fraud. Mr. Wood was paid by us as "Up Front" money - $7,500.00. The work we are willing to accept as completed, although it is not, was priced, by Dale Wood, at $1,950.00. We will now have to pay someone other to complete this part of the contract. The workmanship is not as it should have been, and could have been with the proper effort, and that is the reason we do not want this company to finish this small part of work, even if he was willing to do so. We are asking for the return to us - in cash money or a qualified cashier's check the amount remaining on our contract with him, which is $5,550.00. Mr. Wood is impossible to deal with in this matter, or maybe be is mentally unable to fully understand his financial and moral responsibility to his own contract and his own wording of that contract. I can assure you he will deny all and tell copious untruths - if he even responds to this bureau, which I have already been told he has not done in the past. We do intend to continue with whatever course of action necessary to have our money returned to us, how ever long it may take, whatever court we may have to go to. No authority that we have discussed this with so far, has denied that we are rightfully due the $5,550.00 returned to us. I thank you for reading this and hope there could be or become some way that other consumers like us could be spared the day that Mr. Dale Woods would appear on their doorstep, fall for his promises, only to find our later how badly they have been deceived, and have to suffer the ensuing desperation and depression that we have felt.Desired Settlement: Cash refund of total amount of $5,550.00 - Five Thousand, Five Hundred, Fifty Dollars and no cents. This is the undeniable, by Mr. Dale Wood or any other, the right and true amount owed to us. I would wish that all licensing agencies in the state of Virginia that have to or should (provided he would be truthful) grant him a license to do business in their area, would place him on an indefinite period of probation until he has proven he can operate a business in the required/proper manner..

Review: Dale Wood signed a written contract on June 7 2013 that he would begin and complete our basement project for a "turn key" price of $32,000 to be paid in 4 "draws" with the last $8,000 draw being paid at the satisfactory completion of the project on August 19. Any additional time needed would be penalized $25 per day thereafter. The deadline past without any communication from Wood stating why he was going over the time limit and rarely met with me at the job site other than to pick up his draw. Work has slowed to a "crawl" and Wood now says he cannot finish the work unless I pay him money from the last draw. I have also learned that he has not paid the electrician or plumber for their "rough in" work and the plumber advises me that if he can't get paid from Wood he will have to put a lien on my property although I didn't actually hire him. I have paid Mr. Wood $24,000 and the work project is no where near being completed. I am concerned, as his project manager [redacted] has said, that he will not order enough material to complete the job. He has been very untruthful regarding the ordering of material saying he has ordered tile when in fact he has not. As of today, 9-25-13, there is no one working and his excuse is he doesn't have the money to pay anyone to work because he has had to order "xtras". Mr. Wood and [redacted], project manager has informed us that although an additional cost of more than $2.00 a square for floor tile would be incurred, it would be a "wash" with less labor intense compared to installing ceramic tile. Any additional cost of ceiling tile would be discussed at completion of job. Although paint was included in the material of the job, Mr. [redacted], project manager, stated he had tried to talk with Dale Wood that he was ready for paint but Wood would not talk to him about purchasing paint for the job. This was in July so I purchased the paint with my money so the job could keep going slowly ahead. I have a copy of the signed contract and all documentation which indicates Mr. Wood's untruthfulness in this matter and blaming his project manager, Mr. [redacted], with failing to perform tasks that Wood should have done.Desired Settlement: I would like to see the job completed as promised by Wood in the signed contract.

Review: On April 10, 2013, we made an advance payment to [redacted] of Woods Flooring and More for three jobs. One of those jobs was building a shed for us. We paid $1700 down for this work. After asking Mr. [redacted] a number of times about the shed, he finally sent someone out to build a frame for the foundation of the shed. After some weeks passed, we asked when the shed would be finished. He gave us a date, but nothing happened. Several weeks after this date, he was contacted again and he gave us a promise date to complete the work, but again, nothing happened. I ([redacted]) finally sent him a certified letter asking for the return of our down payment. He refused the letter. We finally had another company build a shed for us in August.Desired Settlement: Refund our money.
