Damage was done to wood floor below chandelier hung by service men.12-20-2013 damage done to floor when service men took done ladder after installing hall foyer chandelier. The damage was shown to servicemen. They apologized for the damage and said they would tell the office when they returned. I was told that the company would have it fixed. When I did not hear from anyone I called the office 1-7-2014. [redacted] finally returned my call when I called again on 1-10-2014. He told me that his men would not admit to doing the damage. [redacted] inferred that the damage was done before and it was under the hall rug. I told [redacted] this was not true and the two ladder scrapes and two gouges were in the hall were at least two feet away from the rug edge. The rug could never cover this floor area due to the hall stairs. I asked [redacted] to come and look at the damage. He refused. [redacted] admitted that they have insurance for damage but said not for this situation. The cost to repair the damage is $400. The servicemen told me the electric bill was to be one hour $105 as approved by the office. I would not be charge for the additional time for them to get the correct ladder as they brought the wrong one. The work took 47 minutes to complete. [redacted] would not take responsibility. He believed his men and would not even take the time to look at the problem. He told me he was not worried about his reputation as they have been in business for 35 years. Desired SettlementThe repair of damage done to wood floor.Business Response /[redacted]/The homeowner called us to hang a foyer light for her and "cap off" another light. We gave her our hourly rates and proceeded to do the work on 12/20/13. When we arrived the homeowner wanted a light hung in the foyer and an additional light hung in the dining room. The foyer was higher than is typical for a two-story foyer so one of the employees came back to get a taller ladder. The other employee stayed and continued to work, which involved finding missing parts for the light he was hanging. Our employees came in that afternoon and said the homeowner had accused them of scratching the floor but they stated the scratches were under the foyer rug, which was down while they were working, but had been pulled back to reveal the scratches while they were putting equipment in the van. When the homeowner called on 1/7/14 she talked to [redacted], who apologized for not getting back to her, and explained he had not had a chance to look at her paperwork because of the holidays and delayed billing that usually occurs at the end of the year. He assured her he would look at it and call her back. When she called on 1/10/14 [redacted] tried to explain to her what the employees said and she said they were lying. She wanted us to pay for half the repair so he offered to delete her bill for the two hours we were at her house (which would have been $200). She refused the offer. He did not believe he needed to look at the damage because he was already offering to delete her bill, which would have covered the $200 she was asking us to pay. She then proceeded to lecture him about owning a business and that is why he mentioned that we have been in business for 35 years and have worked hard to build our good reputation. She said the employees told her we would fix the damage but they said they did not tell her that and she said they were lying about that too. We have never had issues with either of these employees being deceitful about anything so we chose to believe what they were telling us. Final Consumer Response /[redacted]/Although I am no photographer I am emailing you an overview of the damaged area which shows its location to the rug and three close ups of some of the scratches and gouges. Also included is the repair quote from the company who refinished our floors. I was told that the quote required 3-4 visits because the damage was not a matter of simple scratches that could be buffed out. The floor area has to be sanded, re-stained and re-sealed to blend. I really am not trying to be unreasonable. This is a difficult situation because I have never had issues with the employees in question "lying" to us about errors they've made. On the other hand, the homeowner was rude and attacked us and our reputation from the beginning of our encounter. I get the feeling nothing we do or could have done would have been satisfactory. However, because there is a question about about what took place and I was not there to personally know what happened I will offer to pay for the repairs, minus the $200 we would have charged for the work we did at this home.
