Review: All the promises the school said were not meet. I spoke to the staff about issues and complaints throughout the course, but the staff declined to address my issues. Here is a list of concerns I had throughout the program. On the days the labs were scheduled there for 2-3 hours or the labs were canceled. Class were held 1 ½ hour each according to their website http://www.pc.maricopa.edu/pcdt/healthcare.html#1 "This 120-hour Patient Care Technician Program provides students with the knowledge and basic skills needed to perform the duties required of Patient Care Technicians." This was not met. The instructor release class early and canceling classes. We only had a total of 78 hours in both the classroom and clinical lab all together. Students were helping each other hands on during clinical labs. Supplies were never delivered, nor provided on time for the clinical practice. Not all of the supplies needed for each unit were sent to the school. For example, they did not provide a stethoscope and pressure cuff to practice blood pressure vitals; if it wasn’t for one student who had her blood pressure cuff with her in class. The class would not have practiced. Classrooms labs rooms always changed.

When I asked questions the instructor was not prepared to answer my questions. The end of each unit the evaluations were not discussed and I was not evaluated. The first day of class was the only day that the class stayed the full three hours. The schedule dates of classes were not met during the class scheduled time. The instructor was constantly on the phone or texting and eating during class times instead of directing and discussing information in hand. There were never any lectures given throughout the course or examples written on the board. The only thing I did as a class would be reading out loud with no discussing on reading material. Basic medical termDesired Settlement: I am requesting a full refund of $1,999 for the Patient Care Technician Program.

Did you get anywhere with your refund? I am experiencing the same thing in another state. Just started about a month ago and all of the same issues.

Basic medical terminology was never reviewed in the course. When questions were asked in class the instructor used Google search engine and You Tube videos to find answers and used as a training aid. The instructor offered the class to watch a movie video for entertainment value only, that had no barriers in our studies. There were not enough medical equipment and supplies used during the lab that day. Clinical lab rooms were locked during Saturday classes when the class was scheduled for labs. Clinical labs were scheduled in inappropriate settings such as a standard class room. When students were supposed to practice EKG the equipment was not up to date and broken. The class was only able to practice the EKG twice during the course, but not in a full class time. We spend a month reading the EKG book with a limited practical experience.

According to http://www.pc.maricopa.edu/pcdt/healthcare.html#1 "The course encompasses the theory needed and classroom hands on education". "Preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing, recording and taking of vital signs, blood pressure, and other patient care items related to the physicians office visit, rehabilitation services, diagnostic tests, basic bedside care, collection of laboratory specimens, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and miscellaneous patient care concepts. Other topics include; vital signs; patient care; personal hygiene and grooming and aseptic technique among others." none of these mentioned above requirements were taught in the course. I did not receive any supplies from the course and the hand out received in class were not reviewed and never read as a class or reviewed in class

The instructor preferred texting as a communication tool instead of emails and phone calls. During class breaks, instead of available for questions she was having interactions with a male friend. The instructor used harassment and intimidation as part of her motivation tool. The class learned most of the material as individual or small groups gathering after class because of the lack of teaching. When we text the instructor with questions never be responded. The instructor unprepared for class, as soon as class was over, the instructor would rush out of class to avoid questions from students. The instructor told us in class that we would have the state certification after the course was completed only to find out it was certification of completion. The course did not prepare students for the National Board Exam. When confirming with the instructor about the state license, the instructor told us in class that we only had to take the National Board Exam if we were planning to relocate to another state and pay an amount of $149.00 to take the exam. It was stated that once students were completed with the course we will be state certified. Given an evaluation form to evaluate the instructor, many students were dismissed when they received replies from their confidential evaluation.

The Externships information was not given until three weeks before class ended. A Students Identification was not provided and it is needed for the externship. Students were not informed of the needed requirements for the externship or where to get services performed such as CPR, drug screen, vaccinations and physical exams. After completing the requirements for the externship we did not receive a phone call regarding our externship. When the school asked when informing the students of the requirements of the externship the school representatives was disorganized and not consistent given different information to different students. The school representatives only called certain students. There was only one student selected before the course was completed after being told we had to wait after the course was completed. The facility chosen for the externship did not recognize Patient Care Technicians unless they are Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA). Students did not receive certifications of completion even though the instructor text students stating that they will be mailed out and emailed a week after the course were completed. Modules were required to complete for externship not being aware that students had to pay a fee for student’s orientation. According to your website it mentions "offers a 100-hour Clinical Externship available to students who successfully complete the course”. There is nothing stating student fees for orientation for externship.Desired Settlement: I am requesting a full refund of $1,999 for the Patient Care Technician Program.
