The customer states that "the shirt is few years old" and that alone is disqualifying him from any compensationsince laundered shirts will last two to three years and after that time they will start showing sings of wear. The customer had this shirt laundered at another cleaner for past several years
and only had this shirt cleaned by us twice recently The shirt had two small holes on the back bottom, one about mm and the other 2-mm about one inch from the bottom edgeBecause of such small size of the holes it is very difficult to see them and prove when the damage occurredThey may have been there for sometime and only now the customer saw them. There was no clear evidence or proof that our work caused the holes in the shirt, but still we wanted to resolve thesituation with the customer. I estimated the value of the shirt at $and offered him $store creditIn addition, I also offered him repairing of the shirt by shorting the back of it by one inchBoth offers were turned down by the customer.Since he is not realistic about the real value of used shirt therefore there is noting more I can offer.Thank you,*** ***Distinctive Dry Cleaners

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowThis in not acceptable because the business brings up irrelevant information.  First, the business says I have only recently begun bringing the shirt to them.  This is true, and that is why I am filing the complaint against them and not any business I have used in the past because the current business is the one that caused the damage.  Second, the business says that they are not responsible for shirts that are a "few years old" because shirts wear out with washing.  This is ridiculous as the shirt was rarely worn and laundered over the few years and as I said originally was in "like new" condition.  Third, if the business would have checked the shirt for damage upon accepting it, they would know for sure that they damaged it, but they choose not to inspect shirts upon accepting them, and then try to say the customer can't prove who damaged it.  Lastly, the holes were not from wear but rather puncture type DAMAGE from negligence.  Again, the punctures are DAMAGE not normal wear from washing over time.  The business estimated the value of my shirt at $15 yet only offered a $5 credit or to shorten the shirt to eliminate the holes.  As I explained in my main complaint, shortening the shirt will effect the look and fit of the shirt.  As I said in my initial complaint, I am willing to accept a reasonable offer.  I will accept $20 cash to resolve this complaint since the business feels that the shirt is worth $15 and I feel it is worth $25 as is (had it not been damaged).  I will not accept anything less or different than $20 cash.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]As I stated in my last response, I will not be satisfied unless the business compensates me $20 for the damage caused to my $100 shirt.  I think my request is more than reasonable.  I am not interested in spending any further time over $20.  If the business does not want to compensate me, then the complaint can stand as a matter of record on the Revdex.com website for all potential customers to see so that they can beware that the business does not take responsibility for its actions and is not an honest member of the business community and the website can reflect that the businesses response was not satisfactory and that the customer is not satisfied.

In such situation I would recommend a third party involvement since we cannot come to an agreement.

Review: On Monday, Nov. 23rd, 2015 I picked up a dress shirt (embroidered) that I had taken in to be laundered. The shirt, although a few years old, was in "like new" condition with no damage at all, not even a thread out of place as I rarely wore it and took particular care of it. When I got the shirt home I noticed that there were two puncture/tears in the bottom of the shirt tail. Since there was no damage when I dropped the shirt off, the damage must have been caused by the negligence of the store.

I brought the shirt back in to the store the following Monday and showed the damage to the store owner [redacted]. He said that there is no way to prove the damage was caused by the store. He also said that he does not inspect dress shirts when they come in to be laundered because it is not practical to do so; therefore, he said it IS possible that the damage was caused by his store but could not say for sure.

I told him the shirt was originally $100 as it was an embroidered designer shirt and asked him to compensate me for the cost to replace it. He would only offer me a $5 credit as he said the shirt depreciates in value over time. I told him I thought his offer was insulting as the shirt was only a few years old and was in perfect condition. Furthermore, I think that since his policy is to not inspect shirts when they come in to be laundered that he has to be responsible for any damage claimed by a customer since he forfeited his opportunity to identify any preexisting damage by his business decision to not inspect shirts.

I am seeking monetary compensation to replace the shirt as it is not reparable without shortening the shirt, which would make it ill fitting as I wear it out, not tucked in, due to the embroidery. Since the shirt was like new, I am seeking the full replacement value of $100 cash but would be willing to accept a lesser amount if it was reasonable, unlike the first offer of $5 credit, which I felt was insulting.

The owner should not be able to hide behind claiming a customer has no way to prove damage because a customer is not present when the store handles the shirt obviously. In addition, the store assumes liability for any damage if it has a policy of not inspecting the garment for preexisting damage at the time it is brought in.Desired Settlement: Monetary compensation up to $100 for the cost of replacing the damaged shirt.
