Grass Lake Farm Reviews (%countItem)

The individual who is the General Manager of this business has not delivered anything that he's promised. I purchased an individual share for $95.00 and was promised a delivery of organic food beginning in February of 2018. To date I've received 3 mega deliveries. The first in February was frozen Raspberries and a loaf of bread. In the late spring, I received bread and a jar of honey. On July 3, I received green onion, cilantro, and a head of lettuce. Photo is attached.

Others who are part of this CSA have been questioning the integrity of the manager and I expressed disappointment over lack of deliveries and communication which is non existent even though there is written communication with a promise of improved communication.

Because I spoke up even minimally, I received an email last week telling me I had been booted from the CSA for reasons which are not entirely clear. The stated reason was that I posted about senior citizens in some negative way and that my daughter and I had both done so. Two problems with this accusation 1. I haven't posted about anything of the sort, I am over 55 so would qualify as a senior and 2. My daughter is not involved and has no idea that I made what has turned out to be a poor decision.

Grass Lake Farm Response • Jul 24, 2018

Thank you for letting me know about this complaint. This complaint is completely false. Unfortunately, *** has acted out on Social Media accusing us of fleecing Senior Citizens and fraudulently attacking Senior Housing Complexes w our financial schemes. This nonsense is completely false. We have no senior citizens as customers and no senior housing complexes as customers. Her accusations are completely manufactured without any merit. So how is it possible that she can call herself honest???

We immediately blocked *** on Social Media and booted her out of the Co-op. Her share is being donated to a local food shelf. I attached the Company"s solution for the customers in the CSA. We do not control the weather and the Company is by no means responsible for a refund for groceries and perishables. She will not have the opportunity to be kept whole.

Thank you.

Customer Response • Jul 24, 2018

I am rejecting this response because:

There is nothing true in this document. I did not attack Grass Lake for anything. If anything, I remained hopeful about the possibility of receiving what we paid for longer than any of the other 100 + members did. It was only after being accused of saying things I did not that I contacted Revdex.com and am going to the police today. I am over 55 so would qualify as a senior that is a member when he says that there aren't any seniors who have signed up and work at a Senior Housing complex and would never and did not attach the population that I work for. It is my belief that Mr. is either looking for a reason to keep my money or has me confused with another member who was vocal when I was not. He also accused me or having my daughter post which is also false. I have 2 daughters, neither of whom are involved in this CSA and do not know that I signed up for this one or what a circus it is.

I offered a requested apology to Mr. if he could show me that I said what he is accusing me of and he refused to give me that proof. He told me to go find it myself. I looked through all of the posts on both NextDoor and Facebook( not just mine) that he has not removed and can find no proof that I or anyone else said anything of the sort. His responses to you and to others are troubling and baseless.

I have not received what I paid for and want a return of my fee to the CSA. To say that weather has been a factor is ridiculous if you go to any farmers market or look at local gardens.

Grass Lake Farm Response • Jul 24, 2018

We completely reject these lies. Based on the Company solution *** would be kept whole. If *** makes a public apology for her comments on Next Door and Facebook explaining that her lies about senior citizens and senior housing complexes are completely false we would be happy to keep her whole. Refunds for Farm to table and CSAs are impossible as we do not control the weather. Its up to ***.

This CSA is a scam. I paid for 52 weeks of deliveries, which were supposed to be primarily locally grown produce, starting in the spring. I only received a couple deliveries of bread in the winter. In the spring/summer communications became infrequent and inconstant. I have not received any produce. Many other CSA members have posted inquiries and complaints and the owners responds with excuses and often harassment. After digging into the owner’s history, CSA members have uncovered his numerous other "businesses," which all appear to be scams.

I joined the Grass Lake Farms Co-Op in January 2018. The Co-Op was advertised as delivering 52 weeks of the year. I received two deliveries in February and March and then was informed that deliveries would cease until May. May came and went without any communication. A few people on Next Door started complaining and John, the owner, asked people to be patient. In July he emailed me saying that deliveries were starting up and asked which day he could deliver. I told him Monday and he never showed up. I contacted him on Facebook and he apologized and said he would come the next Monday. Again, he never showed up. I asked on Next Door if anyone had received deliveries and multiple people said no and one person said yes. At this point, I started to believe that the entire Co-Op was not real. I asked John to provide the address of the farm, as most CSAs and Co-Ops do, and he responded that he was kicking me out of the Co-Op and donating my share to a food shelf. I wrote to him that I did not give him permission to do that and he told me if I didn't like it I could sue him.

Grass Lake Farm Response • Jul 24, 2018

Thank you ***. *** was booted out of the company for her destructive and false accusations on Next Door and Facebook. We have a zero tolerance policy for this type of behavior on Social Media from our employees, contractors, and customers. Her share has been turned over to a local food shelf. We would be happy to keep *** whole once a public apology is made for her false accusations on Next Door and Facebook. Its completely up to ***.

Thank you.

Customer Response • Jul 25, 2018

I am rejecting this response because:
John is lying. He has accused other former members of the Co-Op of the same thing. No one said anything false on Facebook or Nextdoor. We simply asked him to provide the address of the farm and to deliver the goods we paid for. If was John who was name calling and making accusations on social media, not the former members of the Co-Op. I have attached emails sent by Nextdoor of John's replies to people asking where their produce was. I specifically told John that I did not give him permission to donate my share. There is nothing in the by-laws of the Co-Op that give him permission to do so.

Grass Lake Farm Response • Jul 25, 2018

Thank you ***,

More of the same nonsense. *** is refusing our offer to keep her whole by refusing to apologize on Next Door and Face Book. Its so simple but she can't back out of her lies and false accusations. Ironically, over 420 of our customers on the residential CSA side have responded positively to the company's solution or brought their own combination of a solution to the table and have been kept whole. Its so easy. There is only a handful of pyscho stalkers like ***, ***, ***, and *** that refuse to meet in the middle and use the Revdex.com as another shaming tool. Please close this complaint we are getting no where. Thank you.

John *** is someone to investigate. He had a website called Grass Lake Farm advertising his CSA for fresh produce. I along with several other people joined his CSA the beginning of the year for full and half shares of produce to start in zmay till November, 2018. His website became not accessible 2 weeks ago

I joined via his ads on Next door in Golden Valley, MN in Feb, 2018
I, along with everyone else have NOT received any fresh, seasonal produce...its July
12th!!!!
He has excuses every week as to why no deliveries. Or that deliveries are coming soon
I just emailed him to CANCEL my CSA membership due to failure on his end to deliver what I signed up for. Here is his answer

Will do. There is no refund for the CSA but we can direct your share to the local food shelves of your choice or we will assign and have them get you a receipt.

Let me know.

Here's his email after joining hise CSA on 4/2 2018:
First, I want to formally thank you for joining Grass Lake Farm Coop. While I’ve been in contact with nearly all of our customers individually, I want to make sure you know that we appreciate every one of our Coop members!

The response to our fourth season has been tremendous – more than we ever dreamed! I’ve enjoyed making the small deliveries that we’ve been able to support – meeting everyone and hearing how you are enjoying our products is a highlight of my day. Our aquaponics, bees and local bakers have been humming making sure your first deliveries from us have been meaningful and high quality.

If you’ve been following us on social media, you know we are excited to get the spring planting season started – that means we can step up the amount, and diversity of weekly CSA’s. We’ve got seedlings to start, fencing to repair, hoop houses to install, and well… the list goes on and on. Honestly – we can’t wait to see the snow fully melt on our fields and watch our permanent garden beds produce some great produce to bring to you!

With everything going on at the farms, we are going to make some interim changes to our process to make sure that we deliver on the value that we promise our Co-op. members. In a nutshell, we need to focus all of our efforts on getting the farms up and running during the month of April. That being said, we are pressing “Pause” on CSA deliveries for existing customers until May 1st. Then, we’ll deliver a full 52 week schedule of CSA boxes for our customers, regardless of when you signed up and how many deliveries you’ve already received. You’ll have an opportunity next spring to renew your CSA program – again starting on May 1st, 2019. These early deliveries have been bonus deliveries for our early adopting members – and a great way to get to know you!

In the meantime, we’ll be posting progress on how we are doing at the farm via social media – so make sure to follow us there - Like us on Facebook, Follow us on Twitter and Instagram! We also will continue fulfilling direct orders for our meats – chicken, pork, lamb, and beef - available to order via our website!

It’s an exciting time to be a member of the Grass Lake Farm Coop.! I look forward to seeing you again when we start up deliveries the week of May 1st! Please let me know if you have any questions – [email protected] or call me directly at .

Best,

Grass Lake Farm Response • Jul 18, 2018

Hi ***,

Please correct this complaint. The complaint is posted against *** which is a marketing and sales company for General Contractors. *** and its GCs have no business w ***. Please correct the complaint and direct the email to [email protected] Thank you, John

Grass Lake Farm Response • Jul 18, 2018

Thank you ***.

*** was a customer of our Co-op but was booted from the Company due to her behavior on Social Media. We have a zero tolerance policy for any and all bullying, social shaming, etc...from our Employees, Contractors, or Customers. Lets put that aside for a second.

Our Company has more than 20 different divisions. In the residential CSA, there are over 420 customers. This is our 4th year. The last 3 years ran smoothly w zero complaints. This year we ran from March 2017 to March 31st, 2018. A long winter and no rain has crushed the spring crop. Please find an attachment that went out to all customers this week. The Company is much more than a CSA. There are no refunds for a CSA for obvious reasons. If the Farmer has a great year, everybody wins. If the Farmer has a bad year, everybody loses. The Farmer cannot control the Weather. In our case, we can keep our customers whole due to the way we operate.

*** did not get this opportunity to be kept whole due to her behavior on Social Media. We would be willing to keep *** whole however she would have to go back to Next Door and Facebook to make a public apology to me and the Company for her false accusations and personal attacks. Once that takes place, we would be more than willing to keep *** whole. Its up to ***.

Please see the attachment.

Thank you

I purchased a half share of Grass Lake CSA on January 25, 2018. The agreement was a weekly delivery for 52 weeks. Deliveries started in February. In April the owner, John said that Grass Lake Farms would be taking May off to get everything set for growing season and deliveries would resume in June. They did not. The first week in July, John said that deliveries would start up. After several emails and missed deliveries that week, I finally got a small delivery. This week, I received nothing and the owner is refusing to communicate with me. Several customers have voiced complaints and no one can get a response.

Grass Lake Farm Response • Jul 18, 2018

Thank you ***.

This is 100% completely false. *** was a customer of Grass Lake Farm, Co-op. but was booted out of the Co-op due to her behavior on Social Media sites such as Next Door and Facebook. *** made and continues to make a number of false personal attacks as well as false accusations towards me personally and the Company. The Company has a zero tolerance policy for any and all internet bullying, social media shaming, etc....from our Employees, Contractors, and Customers. However lets set that aside for a minute.

*** joined the Co-op and chose the CSA option which includes Fruits & Vegetables delivered to the customers home or office for free. A CSA, (Community Supported Agriculture), is when a customer purchases a share in the farmers fresh product in advance of the season. The farmer then uses this to plan and budget for the season. The money is used for seeds, irrigation, tools, labor, deer fencing, etc....according to how many customers are in the CSA. Our CSA runs 52 weeks where most run 16 weeks. We deliver to home or office for free while most deliver to a single drop site. CSA is MUCH MORE than just a weekly delivery of food or food products. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a powerful investment in your health, community, and local economy. It’s a partnership between farms and consumers that keeps independent businesses thriving, helps families eat seasonal, local produce, and charges farmers and consumers with the responsibility of building a strong, equitable food system.

So if the Farmer has a good season, everybody wins. If the Farmer has a bad season, everybody loses. The Farmer does not control the weather making it impossible to refund money.

The Company is much more than just a CSA. Please find the attached document that went out to all customers this week offering numerous solutions.

Thank you for your consideration.

Customer Response • Jul 19, 2018

I am rejecting this response because:

Please see attached document of my "attack" towards John/Grass Lake Farms. Grass Lake Farms posted on July 12, 2018 that chickens were for sale and would be ready soon for delivery. I responded by commenting, "Except like the produce, you likely won't get the produce that you paid for." (attached). My Nextdoor comment was similar in warning people in my area that John/Grass Lake is a scam and has multiple businesses, false addresses and many victims nationwide coming forth with their stories. I did not authorize John to donate my share to the food shelf. He did not provide a donation receipt nor which charity he would deliver to, so that I could ask if it was indeed delivered. I asked John to just plain deliver what I paid for. If he is not to refund me, I would like him not to come to my home, but instead deliver to me at the Golden Valley Police Station. It is very close to one of his "business" addresses, which include a house for sale, a UPS store and a Papa Johns. Other scam companies of John's are Heavy Duty Construction Contracting, Passive Solar Housing Cooperative, Emerald Property Group and Stupid Storms. Another victim also saw that John also has businesses that use a Papa Johns address in Robbinsdale called Passive Solar Farms, Wholesale Water Cooperative and Wholesale Window Cooperative.

Attached are screenshots of the actual bullying, not done by customers, but by John, who many times is claiming the victim is not even a customer.

This "CSA" has provided nothing but stress, fear and dozens of victims coming forward with their stories. It has in no way provided health, community (unless you count the victims coming together) or anything positive for our local economy except lining John's pockets and emptying others.

I understand how CSAs work, as do the other victims. Other farmers in the area and across MN have had problems in the early spring, but are still producing produce and plenty of product to customers. John will not give a real address of the farm to at least 2 dozen of his customers that have asked and will not show us the farm. Attached are the Aquaponics that John says were made which he posted about. Also, John claims that irrigation is one of his expenses, so his excuses are not adding up. Victims have paid all ranges of prices for produce for single, half and whole shares. If they received anything it's been the same quantity. For example, I paid $150 for a half share. One victim paid $295 for a half share. Another victim paid $300 for a whole share. Another victim paid $95 for a single share. We compared photos for the only summer delivery made and we all received the same produce and it was wilted and strangely exactly like the head of lettuce at Aldi's.

John's attached document does not apply to any victim that has asked where their produce is since he kicks them out of the produce at that point, so that is not relevant in this case. I did not receive this email.

Grass Lake Farm Response • Jul 24, 2018

We reject this response. More baseless and completely false accusations. *** has no idea what our investment groups do. Lets stick to the cucumbers. Once *** makes an apology on Next Door and Facebook we are happy to keep her whole and deliver it to the Golden Valley PD as she wishes when ready. However, that is not what this is about or she would have done it. There are no refunds for CSA or Farm to Table.
