We purchased a refrigerator from this business nearly a month ago. It was advertised as 'In excellent condition' and 'works like new' on ***'s Marketplace facility.

When I turned up and looked at the refrigerator I was hit with a strobe light effect that was like a 70's disco. The cover that runs across the bottom was missing. A fitting for the water dispenser to the left, at the bottom, was also missing. Two of the shelves were also missing, one from the freezer and one from the fridge. To all this, the guy on hand kept saying, 'we will fix it'. Finally I asked where the handles were, and the guy spent 15 minutes trying to find them. One he managed to attach, the other he couldn't manage - he couldn't find the 'right screws'. So this 'In excellent condition' and 'works like new' fridge had an insanely defective light, four items missing, and a set of handles that couldn't be attached for lack of screws. I took it on the promise the issues would be addressed, and because our tenant desperately needed a replacement.

A week later the repair guy showed up. The new light was installed but made no difference - the strobe effect remained. When the guy tried putting the handles on the doors he'd brought along the wrong pair. The owner said it would take another week to order in another light, and that the handles would be addressed then.

Another week, no sign of the repair guy. When I texted the owner she tried moving the goal posts and claimed the parts would take another 10 days - meaning our tenant would have to deal with the strobe, no handles, and two missing shelves for a month. I said no, we'd had enough, and would take her to court if need be. She then stated they would issue a full refund and take back the fridge once I had a replacement, giving me two weeks to do so. I informed her of the matter of the replacement a couple of days ago (little more than a week since we messaged) and she hasn't responded.

Refund We basically want the $450 refunded and for the fridge to be removed.Nothing more and nothing less.

Mr. as much as we are sorry for the inconvenience, we are glad this issue was resolve by US offering you to pick up the fridge and refunding your money. We never had the intentions of giving a bad service, and you agreed to purchase the fridge knowing the parts were missing and it needed the part for the lights to be replaced.

Why put it first sale? Because some people might not need the lights and finds a very nice fridge for $450 that looks good and works great. And I'm sure that's why you bought it as well.

The part was ordered, we don't control the time of its shipping or if it gets defective, but we never turned our back to you as our customer.

Fortunately the inconvenience for you and the business has been resolved.

If you want a textbook example of the kind of self-serving rationalization that disingenuous people like this peddle, the appended note is it.

I agreed to buy the refrigerator knowing it was missing pieces? I went to the establishment based on a total fabrication (read 'lie' - look at the attachment I provided) that led me to believe I was buying a refrigerator 'In Excellent Condition' and 'Like New'. The fridge was nothing like that, yet the owner of the business keeps glossing over that point constantly.

Having driven all the way there, and knowing my tenant was having issues with their existing fridge, I took the fridge under very dubious circumstances - at any other time I would have declined the sale and gone elsewhere.

'Some customer might not need light'? Then advertise it as such, don't lie about it to lure people in. They might as well sell cars, get the customer in on the basis of a false ad, then tell them 'oh, and by the way, the engine is missing, we'll get it to you a soon as we can".

In addition, the woman made it up as she went along about delivery, stating it would arrive one week, then claimed it would take another 10 days.

Our tenant got stuck with this piece of garbage, having to use the door edge for nearly a month to open the door, only to get hit by the disco light inside, and this reprobate thinks that it's all somehow okay and part of the deal? Need she also be reminded that it was her husband who turned up with the wrong door handles the first time he came to visit to make 'repairs', having already located them the previous week when I was at the store?

We took the refund and gladly watched them finally take their defective fridge away, but by no means are they exonerated from their appalling, dishonest, and unprofessional behavior. Anyone reading this needs to stay well clear, and take the response from the business owner as representative of exactly what kind of attitude they'll have to deal with.
