We adopted an older dog from the pound who was afraid of our kitchen (where the doggy door is). After 2 sessions with K9Katelynn she was moving through the dining room to the kitchen. She even appeared to be practicing by herself during the week. Just going in and out even when we were in the living room. Great job K9Katelynn. We're very happy with her progress and how quick the behavior change was!

We recently finished our training with our Labrador puppy (Cody) with K9Katelynn. Great experience and will use all the skills and training we learned in developing our new family member. Thanks K9Katelynn!

Very detailed and thorough. Works on any issues you have and has an answer for every concern.

When I first started working with K9katelynn I had just adopted a dog. One who was in the rescue for 6 months. I was a new dog owner. My dog (Pit Bull mix) was great with people but not so much towards other dogs. She was shy, startled easy and quick to go into fight mode. She had went potty inside, broke out of her kennel, pulled on the leash and I was scared to walk her. I was scared because every time she saw another dog she tried to fight. Over the 1st couple of weeks with K9katelynn I was frustrated as results were so so. Towards the middle of our training the bigger picture stared to come together. My dog and I had the basics down and were working on new commands. Today my dog is more confident, knows her boundaries, listens to my commands and the aggression issues has improved a ton. K9katelynn has been amazing from working with my schedule, working on my needs along the way and guiding me through growing pains. If you want a personal touch from someone that will come to you and deliver results, then K9katelynn is the one you want.

K9 Katelynn came through on every level! Our once timid puppy is now able to understand and follow commands! Thanks for all the help Tom

This owner is very difficult to work with.. has a passive aggressive personality that comes across harsh and is a control freak. Makes you pay up front and you are not even sure what he has planned for the training or if its going to meet with your schedule or lifestyle. Argues with you if you disagree - and will not refund all your money - even when you know its not going to work...for you and your pet. I wish I would have read Yelp before I hired him. I was very disappointed and should have gone with my gut feeling that we were not going to be a good fit... for trainer/owner.. He is not easy to work with.. unless you are weak and a push over.. he likes to make you feel like a child when he asks you to write things down.. will not give further notes unless you are writing it down - very aggressive and not a people person at all. Needs people skills - to be in business and he lacks those. Also used my bathroom and it was disgusting - I had to fumigate - he should have taken care of that in a gas station bathroom or somewhere other than my home... definitely lacked class. Make sure you are the one getting evaluated for what you are willing to do for training as he evaluates the dog but not the owner and that is very important as perhaps you cannot do some of the things he is demanding of you. Does not like if you don't want to crate your pet... gets very in your face about it.. and keeps bringing it up even after you say I will not crate my dog... Buyer Beware with this person and this business..... read Yelp too.

My wife and I contacted K9Katelynn to help with issues we had while walking our 2-year-old rescue dog. The pup is very friendly and not at all aggressive, but the sight of another person or pet sends him into a frenzy to meet the newcomer. Tom came to our home to meet us and Riley, learn our expectations, and explain his training techniques. He made it clear that achieving positive results could only come from our practicing techniques from the previous sessions.

The training included teaching Riley basic commands like sit, down, and wait. One of the most important parts of Tom’s program is for owners to learn their role in the process. We learned that it is Riley’s nature to please us by doing what we wanted, but this could only happen when he knew what we expected, and this meant working the commands repeatedly and consistently.

I will admit that Riley still lacks the leash etiquette we hoped for, but I believe this is because of our failure to perform the required reinforcing exercises. We now have the basic command tools and understanding of Riley’s behavior to achieve our goal. Don’t think Tom is going to give you a magic leash and suddenly your pet will do everything you want. You have to do the work.

Having said all this, I’d like to add my comments to those many others that spoke about Tom’s obsession with “write this down”. Teachers and students are all different. Tom does things his way and probably feels writing things down reinforces them. As a student, I would rather have him give me a script of the steps and important points for a given lesson. Rather than stressing to be sure I’m recording his words verbatim, I could understand the point and add my own comments or interpretations in the margin.

Overall, I think our experience with Tom and K9Katelynn was a positive one, and Riley is a better pet for it. Plus, the treadmill sure beats 100 degrees on those summer days.

I hired K9 Katelyn to help train my australian shepherd and liked his approach of positive reinforcement. I've done dog training classes in the past, but hands down I've never learned as much as I did by going through this program. I took at least a page of notes during every session which aided me greatly when we practiced during the week. I literally feel like I have a book of knowledge now and could train any new dog on my own now. And the only reason I think I could do that is because of the copious notes I was asked to take each week during our training sessions. My dog is super well behaved, was able to learn all the skills, and is very obedient now. I can't thank [redacted] and K9 Katelyn enough for helping me train my dog.

Tom helped me to potty train my small bread dog. I felt he was very knowledgeable.

Our family has 1 large- and 1 medium-sized dogs who needed some training and guidance! Before training, the dogs created chaos and havoc and we were considering re-homing one of them. In our few short weeks together, K9Katelynn has helped us make much needed behavioral changes in our dogs! At the first session, K9Katelynn established our priorities in training, and each week we worked to learn the command and reviewed previous lessons. The instructions were clear, and the training was professionally performed. Happily, we are no longer considering rehoming one of the dogs and are pleased with the progress we have made with the help of K9Katelynn!

I would recommend this service without reservation.

We have worked with Tom at K9Katelynn for the past 2 weeks. We have 2 Golden Doodles that needed training badly. We have had other trainers work with both dogs but no one got the same results as Tom. They are better behaved now. They listen better. And we have them swimming and running in a treadmill. We still have some work to do but we are happy our vet suggested we give them a call. I would recommend them highly.

K9Katelynn has helped me and my dog tremendously! After rescuing her about a year ago and never having a bigger dog before I didn't realize how different it would be. I was not used to having something so big to control and knew I couldn’t do it on my own. I also had extremely high anxiety about her being around other dogs and it was deterring me from being able to take her for walks outside or let her socialize at the dog park because I was too nervous as to something bad happening, whether it be to her or to another dog. [redacted] has been extremely patient and thoughtful through our entire training process and reassured me every step of the way. I've found that her mastering 'simple' commands has made her a more obedient and calm dog all around, even when we are not training. She used to jump all over me, pull the leash, lick incessantly, etc. but with the help of K9Katelynn I now have the confidence and education to correct her behavior when necessary and I think our relationship has strengthened through the process. I have come to understand that I am as big an influence on my dog's behavior as she is so it was just as important for me to listen to the plan and by following everything he said we both have come a long way. He was always on time, was always flexible with my schedule and always available to answer my questions via text even if it was during the week when we were not in a scheduled session. I felt he really went above and beyond to help understand how I was feeling about certain issues and how we could work through them in a way we were all comfortable with. I really liked how he went out of his way to get to know me as a person as well as bond with my dog, it made me feel like he really cared about our success and wasn't just worried about the paycheck and whenever we were 'done' he was done whether he felt we were ready or not. I can't thank him enough and I can't say enough good things about K9Katelynn! :)

I want to thank Tom at K9katelynn for donating 3 gift cards for his amazing dog training to The Joy Bus nonprofit charity! We deliver freshly cooked meals to homebound cancer patients and Tom's generous donations has been able to help us raise much needed funds for our cause! Thank you so much!

My family adopted a sweet puggle from the pound in December. We were all madly in love with him right away. The problem is he had some aggression issues and a very dominant personality that caused some real problems in our home. We sought out help with K9Katelyn because we were at a loss about what to do. I am so grateful that we completed our training because [redacted] helped us resolve our dogs issues with aggression and general behavior issues. Our dog is so much better behaved and he has been taught to run on a treadmill. This has been a huge help in calming him down.

This is a great service for training dogs at your own residence. Extremely helpful exercises which you use now and continue for a well trained friend. Never hurting the dog in any way. I highly recommend K9Katelynn.

Tom was top-notch working with our Miniature Schnauzer puppy, Bayner. He is knowledgeable, very patient, and adapts his training methods to the individual dog and its owners. We saw tangible results every week. We had to take some breaks in training due to some travel commitments, and Tom was very flexible about scheduling. He also gave us helpful tips that would not have occurred to us, like using a treadmill and swimming laps to keep Bayner well-exercised. Tom also suggested specific toys that would keep Bayner mentally stimulated, and he had good health care tips like regularly using an ear wash and using bully bones to satisfy puppy chewing needs. Each time Tom came to the house he provided more training exercises and tips and always followed up on them. Bayner is better on a leash, obeys commands more readily, and is more fun to be around. We would absolutely recommend Tom to anybody looking for an effective dog trainer.

Review: Tom from K9Katelynn met with us and agreed to train 4 dogs for us. He made us pay up front and made us buy a large amount of supplies form pet stores. I could not make the first session, so my Wife attended it. He only wanted to deal with one dog that day. When I got home, my Wife was crying and said Tom had been so rude and verbally abusive to her that it made her cry. I waited a few days to calm down and then called to fire him, as we did not want him back in our house. I told him to take 1 session, for one dog out of the $2500 we paid him and to refund the rest. He said we would NOT be getting a refund, we had signed a contract. What he had put in front of us to sign, he explained, was an agreement to "work" with the dogs during the week. We did NOT receive a copy of this so called "contract". I filed in Small Claims Court and they have false address's for their business so they could not be served the court documents. I will refile with the court and hire an investigator to find him, if need be. We have spoken to Dog Day Care Centers and other pet owners that have had the same experience with them. He is ripping people off and using this "contract" to get away with it.Desired Settlement: I want to be refunded the money we paid for all four dogs and I also want to warn others about him so this doesn't happen to them.

Response:

This identical complaint was filed by his wife on 11/9/2015 (complaint number [redacted]) of which thier was no response after I filed my response! You can see my response to that on 11/10/2015! Three additional notes that are added to this one which was not noted on the 1st complaint the amount was $2150 not $2500 as stated in His complaintB) as both the Revdex.com knows and is stated this address is correct and always has been! C) the contract was supplied and resent on 11/10/15 and again please find a copy of that!! I would like to know he claims he talked to both my current clients and pet places that claim I have ripped them off! Thank you! I will stand on my response before as far as refund is considered! However I want a response in people talked to and dates and responses! Thank you!

We couldn't be happier with the results. [redacted] was very professional and helpful. He explained everything up front so there were no surprises. We would recommend him to anyone with a dog who needs a little fine tuning to a dog with major issues. Our dog had some aggressive behaviors which have not been an issue since the training. She learned how to sit, down, stay, place, wait among other commands. She also learned how to run on a treadmill which gives her the extra exercise she needs.

Good approach - innovative - respectful of dog and person.

Not inexpensive, but I got value from the experience.

Tom comes to train and has a lot of experience... make sure up front you both know what your expectations are and if your schedule can handle the time and training you have to also put into the efforts.. Be on the same page - and the training will be successful with Tom's methods...
