The information in the tenant’s complaint is not accurate. She was living in unit #** first. She asked for a larger unit when one became available, because her juvenile daughter was living with her and her boyfriend. When unit #**, which is twice as large as #**, became available,...
she wanted it. A short time after moving into it, she informed me that it had bedbugs. Unit #**, which is a three-bedroom apartment, became vacant and she wanted it. I had not gotten it cleaned, but she said she would clean it so she could move in it sooner. I checked #** for insects and told her to check it out carefully. She said it looked okay to her. She had become friends with another tenant, who sometimes helps me with maintenance. He suggested that she not move her clothing or linens into #** until she had laundered them, so she would not bring bedbugs from #** into #**. Against his advice, she moved them into #** without laundering them. After she had lived in #** awhile, she told me there were bedbugs in it. I bought foggers and spray for it and an exterminator also treated it. A few days later, when I questioned her about it, she told me the treatments were working. As for her apartment being broken into and items stolen, she told me that the tenant with whom she had become friends had done it. The other tenant told me that he had a witness who saw her enter his unit when he was away. His unit was vandalized and items stolen. He got a warrant for her. Their relationship appeared to have gone bad after her boyfriend, with whom she had separated, moved back in with her. I served a “Quit or Pay” notice on her on October 6, 2016 for $900 in unpaid rent from September 9, 2016, through October 6, 2016. This is when I heard additional complaints from her. Some of the tenants at the Lighthouse have lived there over nine years. Many others have moved back after having lived there before. I think these facts speak well of the place. I do not think it is right for you to publicly post the name of my business while refusing to identify the complainant as well. SincerelyLarry G.
