$1,000++ HARD LESSON! I am very unhappy and disappointed with McEachron Glass in Ione. I expected much more professionalism because he came highly recommended. My complaint is that he never asked us verbally, by text, or in an email which direction we wanted our sliders to open. It may not seem like a big deal, but since we were replacing a swing door, it did not occur to me to ask or check this detail. As the person that recommended him said, " I am surprised he did not ask you MULTIPLE times to be sure which direction you wanted." It is our first remodel we have ever done. My husband and I bought over $7,000 of windows from him. We chose upgraded Tuscany French sliders with upgraded handles to replace swing doors in our bedroom and family room. At first, Josh was going to do the installation himself, but it was decided it made more sense for our general contractor to put in the windows as he worked his way around the house to replace the siding. When the contractor started to put in the first slider, we realized it was opening from the opposite side as the swing door in our bedroom. In addition, the handle (upgraded) was located past a piece of furniture so that we would have had to reach our hand past the furniture to open it. The other MAJOR problem is that since the six foot slider replaced a 36" swing door, there is no step where the new slider would open. As I told him, I could understand on the bedroom door that you would not know where the original step was because there was a deck over the step at the time he took the measurements, (which has now been removed) but the family room patio step was clearly visible and he could see that when the door opened, there would be no step. I asked him if he did install them, at what point would it have been evident there would be a problem? His only solution was to sell us another slider at his cost of $1,110. We decided that this is a once in a lifetime remodel and we would be too unhappy with the bedroom placement. So we decided to have our contractor order one from our local *** store. It delayed the remodel by three weeks too. Our general contractor charged us what he bought it for from *** ($1,150) and installed it in the bedroom. Since we did not want to buy TWO new sliders, we decided we could live with the opposite opening in the family room and we will pay for a new landing built over it. We are not rich; this is a big hit on our remodel budget. WE are trying to recoup our loss. The second brand new, unwrapped UPGRADED slider is sitting under a tarp as we try to sell it on Craig's List and on local bulletin boards. I contacted *** and their distributor said he would send it out to contractors and other companies. But after three weeks, we have heard nothing. Yes, I approved the specifications sent via email, but a SIMPLE QUESTION could have prevented this problem and $1,150 and the extra time expense.
