ServiceMaster DSI Reviews (%countItem)

ServiceMaster had many people at my house while recovering from flood damage. Many people cutting up carpet and carrying it outside and moving a lot of furniture, shelving and items around. Everything was left stacked in piles since they were not the ones to fix the damage after tearing everything out. After they were done I am missing items. They only respond saying that nothing like this has happened before so I should do whatever I think is necessary. I am proceeding, trying to find a way to recover loss. I would say that if you have no choice but to use ServiceMaster you would need to inspect every ServiceMaster employee going in and out of their house.

We had this branch of service master come to our home to mitigate flood damage in our basement. One employee moved an open shelf full of glassware with out emptying it. Hr broke multiple family heirlooms and a wedding gift. 2 of the 3 items have been replaced with much nagging. The third item, depression glass bread plates still have not.

The items were broken on August 1. We have repeated called with no returned phone calls. Most recently spoke with Angie who claimed the office didn't even know what I was talking about.

Hi Revdex.com,

This issue was resolved with our customer.

Here is our written response to Revdex.com Case # *** - ServiceMaster Disaster Services.

First and foremost, we want to apologize that items in your home were damaged during the mitigation process. We understand your desire to resolve this issue quickly and we have been working with you since the incident to replace or reimburse you for your damaged items. While we have found a solution for most of your items, the final item needing to be replaced has been difficult to find a replacement for. With that said, we did find and place an order for a replacement. Based on our most recent phone call, you no longer want a replacement and have agreed to be reimbursed instead. I hope this resolves your issue.

Thanks,

Katy O

In July, my home was hit by a microburst which cause sewage backup through the floor drain in my basement and extensive damage to my deck and roof. I contacted Service Master to clean up the sewage back up in the basement. They were prompt and did a decent job, but were extremely expensive (over $3000 for a laundry room and a closet that were affected). I was ok with this, as we were in the middle of a disaster.
I was referred to their contracting services through my contact for the clean up. He helped me work through the insurance process. Before we started work on the project, I confirmed the cost to switch my flooring from carpet to solid surface to ensure the budget was within the insurance payout. He told me if we kept material cost under roughly $2.90 a square foot, we would be under budget.
They moved forward with drywall and painting services, then forwarded me a change order for $1,400 to install the solid surface flooring, which was nowhere near the price that was quoted. Then I compared the bill to the insurance estimate and found that they were not adding up at all. I challenged it and basically found they were "stuffing" $1400 into their install costs somewhere. Keep in mind this was for installing vinyl plank flooring on 500 square feet. Essentially, they wanted to charge me something like $5000!
I told them no and hired a different contractor to complete the work that is charging me WELL under what my insurance estimate was to install the same flooring. I requested a final bill from their office. I was shocked when it came in at $4200 for paint and drywall! When I reviewed the bill I realized they were charging me for items they didn't complete on the insurance estimate. So, I requested an adjustment and the office manager agreed that roughly $500 in charges should be removed.
Later that same day, I received an email back with my revised bill for $600 MORE than the original $4200! She explained they didn't charge me for profit or overhead and said this was the correct amount saying that these bills are very complicated.
I was absolutely livid. I itemized the insurance estimate (52 line items) and balanced it against my payment. My actual bill was $3100 (which is still super high for paint and drywall)! They were trying to overcharge by 55% on this bill! I replied and sent my spreadsheet.
5 minutes later my phone rings and I have a voicemail from the office manager saying they were "so sorry" that they made a mistake on the bill and I was absolutely right.
If I had not spent 2 hours doing their job, I would've overpaid by $1700 on a $3100 project! This company is extremely dishonest and prays on people that are in crisis and do not have time to sort through insurance paperwork.
How many other people might they have taken advantage of? I strongly encourage someone to review all of their billing practices in detail. This company preys on people in crisis and then takes further advantage of them by stuffing bills with unjustified costs. Do NOT hire them!
I have to put 1, but they get Zero stars from me!

As a disaster restoration company, we understand the stress and difficulty the recovery process can be for a homeowner. I would first like to assure you our recovery pricing and procedures are industry standard. Our pricing is set by our national insurance partners and our recovery procedures are set by the IICRC. When it comes to your complaint about the reconstruction of your basement, I believe we had some miscommunication. Upgrading from carpet to a vinyl plank flooring, while the cost for materials may be similar, is a much more labor intensive process to install. This upgrade would not have been entirely covered by insurance. I would be happy to resend email communications you had with your ?construction team? outlining the price for this upgrade. We never try to hide the cost of our services.

The error in your final bill was a simple mistake. At the time you requested your bill, your Project Manager was unavailable so our office manager who was unfamiliar with the job and scope tried to produce the bill for you. In producing your bill, she misread the scope and add?ed? a management fee that should not have been a?pplied?. As soon as you brought this error to our attention. She call you immediately to apologize and sent you a corrected bill. We never want to mislead our customers and we are proud of the work we do and people we help. I'm sorry you had a bad experience and didn't meet your expectations. If you would like to discuss further please give us a call we always appreciate our customers' feedback.
