A few days ago, I got a blue screen pop up that I could not get out of with an urgent message telling me to call this "toll free" number that was displayed. I called, worried that my computer was breached and spoke to one of the representatives that sounded like he was reading from a script. He told me all about the Blue Screen of Death and told me that my computer had deadly viruses that had been there for several days [which was untrue since I had run a security scan that same day]. They urged me to pay for a 1 year warranty as well as a charge for the labor for repairs and had me write my email, phone number as well as my credit card number on a word document [very unprofessional]. I told them that I didn't want it to be charged to my account right away because I did not have the means to pay for it. They assured me, I wouldn't be charged until a week later. Things didn't seem to add up with this company for how very unprofessional they were, so I hung up on the representative, closed all of their fake security plug ins and shut off my computer. Right after that, I cancelled my credit card, this was to no avail because despite my request to not put any charges on my account until one week from that day, it showed in my bank statements that they did it anyway! The next morning, I took it to a legitimate tech support place who ran a security scan. The only virus that showed up, ironically, was from a program these scammers had me install.
