Review: I reside in transitional housing for victims of domestic violence. We are required to meet certain goals, one of which is to begin repairing our credit. On March 17, 2014, [redacted] Chatman was brought in to discuss his services. He explained to us that his method was to dispute all items on all three credit reports (whether they were accurate or not) over and over during a six month period. He assured us that this was perfectly legal. He said that if a company did not respond to the dispute within 30 days then the item would be deleted and we would see our scores go up. I was taken in by Mr. Chatman because aside from physical and verbal abuse, I had been financially abused and my credit had suffered greatly. On March 18, I paid him $200 via credit card. He told me not to contact anyone - he would take care of everything. He would contact me at the end of the month after the first round of disputes returned. He e-mailed me a one page agreement which did not outline his services, did not outline my legal rights. The agreement was also never signed by either one of us. He said nothing about a three day right to cancel. At the end of the month two items had been deleted. I was disturbed because one item was a car loan that was satisfactorily paid and I had no late payments. When I questioned him he never returned my calls or e-mails. I thought this item would look good for future potential loans. The other item was a credit card. On May 5, 2014 I received a certified letter suing me in civil court for that particular credit card. I called Mr. Chatman and he advised me to go to court and say that I was never contacted by the debt collection company that purchased the debt. He also said I should say that I repeatedly attempted to settle with the credit card company and they refused. This is an outright lie. Lastly, he said that I should say absolutely nothing about my credit report or about the fact that I was working with him. I don't want to see this scam happen to anyone else.Desired Settlement: I want my $200 returned AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS MAN OUT OF BUSINESS. HIS BUSINESS IS A SCAM.
