Review: We hired this company to replace our roof on our house and garage starting on 9 sept. 2015 to be done by 30 sept. 2015. They Took Forever To Finish The House Which Wasn't Done By The Contract Date . After a small rain delay they came back started the garage but never finished it. It has been 2 weeks and they still have not returned with excuse after excuse. They assured us they would be here today at 9 but to no avail. 23 sept 2015. We have contacted them daily requesting them to finish the work via text and phone calls with a result of empty promises. We have a written with contract with them and they are paid in full for the entire job.Desired Settlement: We would like for them to honor the contract and finish the roof within the next few days or before they go to another job or give us back $2500 so we can find another contractor.
To whom it concerns, This is in response to the complaint letter I received. Case number [redacted]Regarding the issue with Mr. [redacted] at [redacted]We started on site with his contract as of September 14, 2015 @ 7:30 amand started on the house first. And we did not finish the house until September 25, 2015.And we were paid for the house as per contract of 5500.00. Then we were to start on the garage which I did. Granted during this time it did rain for 2 weeks. And I will not get on a customers roof or tear any roof off during a 30% or more chance of rain, per contract. Especially when that roof is a 12 pitch, and dangerous.Knowing it was going to take longer. The [redacted]'s were asked did they want to extend the contract, to the fact we were told there is no need, everything's fine and they were not worrying about that. Also I did go through a lot with firing workers for not showing up and ended up finishing this69 square job by myself. In which anytime anything happened or went on. I contacted Mr. [redacted] and let him knowabout this. I have all of my phone records, photographs of us on the job that are dated.I at no time asked to be paid for the garage I hadn't finished yet.I was written the check for 2500.00 on October 9, 2015, which I did not want to take, but was assured to do so.I had no idea there was such a problem going on since I had been in constant contact with Mr. [redacted] and all of mytools, trailers and work items were on his property and I could do no other job but his.Yes this was a big job and yes it was some problems, BUT this HOUSE and GARAGE have been FINISHEDas of October 26, 2015.And if you need pictures I can provide them as well.As I would have liked to have been hired by the insurance company since it was their claim and Ihad to constantly provide paperwork for them. Instead of going through the third party. If you need anymore documentation or photos, phone records, please do not hesitate to contact me.I will be happy to provide you with whatever you need. And I am sorry Mr. [redacted] feels this way, but his job his finished and our contract is complete.Thank You,James A[redacted] Sr.James A[redacted] Residential Repairs and Services [redacted]Case # [redacted]
To whom it may concern 11/2/2015 This is in response to complaint # [redacted]. First I would like to say that Mr. A[redacted] is lying about most of his statement. Our contract states that he would start on the 8th but due to a conflict on some scheduling they started on the 9th of September not the 14th as they claim. They are very nice people but on the business end they lack professionalism. During the repairs on the house they left in the middle of the afternoon on several occasions with the claim that he doesn’t like to rush his jobs, if that was the case he should not have made the contract to have a completion date on the 30th of September. But he and his wife who was present at the negotiations and wrote the contract up made several reassurances to us that it would not take the entire month to finish the entire job. On another occasion one of his employees had an appointment with a doctor but they all left, I wasn’t sure why they all had to leave. The entire time they worked on the house all he and his employees did was argue about who was working harder and how much they did alone. On one occasion his employee Brian threw his nail gun off of my roof, which could have damaged something on the ground or hurt someone and then soon after he walked off the job. Soon after that they all had to leave, again not sure why they all had to leave.During this time Mr. A[redacted] came to us and asked for an advance of $1000 which was not in accordance to our agreement but since his wife stated they were having issue with some financial obligation with her mother we felt that at that time they would not stiff us and gave them the money, even though he failed to mention it in his response and I have the cancelled check to prove it. By this point my wife was really tired of dealing with their delays and so was I. During the whole entire month of September there was no rain to delay them. On some days they didn’t even show up to work.Once they finished the house Mr. A[redacted] stated that he would come back by himself and his worker Andy and they can finish the garage alone and it would take two to three days max. There in fact was a delay during the first week of October because of rain and not being an it
, I understand that roofers shouldn’t work on a wet roof but it was only for one week. Mr. A[redacted] did come to us to rewrite the contract because he knew he wouldn’t finish but I feel that was to only cover himself from any possible lawsuit for breach of contract. At this point we had already waited this long and if we adjusted the contract that would justify more delays for them. At no time did I say everything was fine but I did say we were ok with the contract as it stands, since he continued to reassure us that they would have the garage done in a matter of days, not weeks like it took the house, since it was much smaller and he was as experienced as a roofer. When Mr. A[redacted] started the garage he still had all his workers that he had when he started the house. So he hadn’t fired anyone yet. They started on the garage after the rain and on the 9th of Oct. 2015 Mr. A[redacted] came to me and asked for a draw or advance of a $1000 in cash. He stated he subcontracted a job to paint a house and needed to buy the supplies for that job. I told I would think about, after I told him I wouldn’t give him cash he asked how about $500 cash and a check for $500? Again he lied on his letter to the Revdex.com and again feeling sympathetic to his situation even though I don’t know what he did with the $5500 I already gave him and really none of my business, my wife and I discussed it since they were there working on the garage roof and once again expected them to finish soon, went ahead and paid them the $2500 owed as a good faith in their trust, which eventually backfired on us as you see below. Once we paid them the excuses started coming. And they didn’t show up after three days of working so as of the 12th of Oct. they were not at my house. On the 14th of Oct. at 7:34 I received a text I assume from his wife saying that she just brought Mr. A[redacted] home from the hospital due to high stress and really high blood pressure and that he would not be out the next day to finish the roof. I responded that evening after talking to my wife at 5:56 P. M. and stated I hope he is doing better and if he was having high blood pressure issues then to take the next day off and I will see them on Friday the 16th. I have high blood pressure and understand the dangers of if so we felt toward their predicament and since we waited this long me yelling and screaming and saying I don’t care wasn’t going to get them to come finish the roof any faster. Their response at 5:59 was ok thanks you and see you Friday. On Friday the 16th I received a text from Mr. A[redacted] at 6:55 a. m. I will be there Saturday I will have 2 roofers with me. At 6:57 I responded with, “I allowed you to take yesterday to rest, I need my roof finished”. His response at 7:01 “it will be finished” at 1:53 my roof was getting wet from a light drizzle and it was not covered by any tarp at this time so I sent him a text “the felt is getting wet is that ok?” he responded at 1:53 “yes”, but the GAF roofing shingle site stated that once felt gets and won’t lay flat it had to be replaces which he didn’t do he just punched in a bunch of nails to attempt to flatten if back out, so not sure if the felt is on correctly. At 4:02 on the 16th I text to Mr. A[redacted], “What time u going to be here tomorrow?” at 4:03 he responded with “7:30 a. m.”On the 17th of Oct. at 9:34 a.m. I text to him “its 9:30?” of course meaning where you at? At 10:10, 3 hours after he said he was going to be here his response “working on my truck the coil is messed up” not at 7 or 7 30 when he should have been on the road, but three hours later. Now being a mechanic of 30 years in the Army and as an Army civilian, who trains Soldiers how to become mechanics, I know it takes about 20 – 30 minutes to replace a coil on any truck or car that has one. At 12:21 I text, “Fixed it? Should take no more than 20 minutes to change a coil.” With no response at all.On 18 Oct. 2015, at 3:29 p.m., I received a text from Mr. A[redacted], “I will be there Monday to finish your job sorry it took so long, 8 a.m.” at this point my wife told me to stop texting. We felt since we already paid them in full being the biggest mistake I made, they were now at the point where we felt they were going to take their time even more.On 20 Oct. and still no rain as of the 9th of Oct. 2015, I sent a text to Mr. A[redacted]. “Where you at? Enough is enough I need my roof done”, this was at 9:03 a.m. Then again at 11:30 I text, “Where you at James?” Finally at 12:06 p.m. he responded with, “Didn’t have any workers. Am not trying to screw you. I will be there tomorrow. I can’t send up the shingles myself.” At 12:10 p.m. I responded, “If you can’t find anyone then I need to know tonight. I will take a day off and send them up if I have to.” No answer came.21 Oct. 2015 6:47 a.m. I text to Mr. A[redacted], “Are you going to be here today?” no answer, again at 7:00 a.m. I text the same message, no answer. At 9:12 a.m. I text, “U said you were going to be here today”. Finally at 9:44 a.m. he responded with, “I will be there tomorrow, I will have my worker back promise”. At 9:49 a.m. I texted, “you keep saying that and yet no progress. I believe we have been more than patient. I asked u to tell me last night if you weren’t going to be here because of no workers but never responded, again. If they and you feel other jobs are more important than that doesn’t speak well towards your professionalism or ethical obligations, or your legal obligations. (This is of course referring to the paint job he said he subcontracted, now that I look back at it this is what they were probably doing while they weren’t at my house putting my garage roof on as per our contract agreement and his worthless promises.) He gave me no answer to that text.22 Oct. 2015 I texted at 10:09 a.m., “You at my house working?” No answer. Again at 10:25 a.m., I texted, “you promised you would be there today.” No answer. And one more time at 11:40 a.m.“Where are you at?” No answer. He then called which I intentionally did not answer so I could record what he said on my voicemail. Message at 12:46 P.m., “Tthis is James, I am having problems with my workers and my family. I will be there tomorrow because I start another job Monday. I’ll see you tomorrow, I am working Friday and Saturday to finish your roof.” He didn’t show up Friday.23 Oct. 2015 9:55 a.m., I texted, “Where you at?” no answer. At 10:11 a.m. I texted, “According to our contract you are not honoring part 10, 14, 16 and 18. You also promised you would be here today, apparently your word means nothing”. No answer. Another call went to voicemail, “Hey Arthur give me a call, and I got everything straight over here. I got two days to finish that job got Saturday and Sunday. Give me a call back so I can talk to you. I got someone who is going to help me tomorrow so give me a call so I can get this straight, bye.” I called him at 11:15 and asked him why he couldn’t just carry the shingles up like they use to before they invented the ladder elevator, no answer to that question. 24 Oct. 2015, 8:27 a.m. I texted, “where you at? It’s supposed to rain tomorrow so the roof needs to be done today”. His response was “on my way” at 8:43. They showed up 5 minutes later and only two workers were there and they were moving the shingles and other supplies up the ladder by hand. They worked until 3 p.m. and his worker Andy made a comment that they will have to come backtomorrow to finish the roof cap but I told him that they need to work until dark or until finished. Which to my surprise they did. I felt that by me staying outside with them the whole time they would keep working, but also was informed by Mr. A[redacted] he had a new job to start on Monday so he would need his trailer. I don’t believe he would have finished my house until he felt like it if they didn’t already had another job lined up. So as I stated to Mr. A[redacted] in an earlier conversation, they didn’t need that ladder elevator thing he kept saying no one but him knew how to operate and he had no more excuses. 25 Oct. 2015 at 8:14 a.m. I texted “Let me know when you are on your way so I can unlock the garage”. Since he did have his compressor in there. At 8:36 he responded with, “I’m at the store by your house”. They worked until it started raining and I told them once the rain started to climb down from the garage I don’t need them to fall. They did not tarp my garage roof like they did the house. They just put their stuff away and left. It stopped raining around 12:30 and the sun was shining but they never came back, and his wife told Andy who relayed it to Mr. A[redacted] that it was only supposed to rain for three hours and then clear up.26 Oct. 2015 they came back to finally finish the garage at around 9 a.m. and stayed until 2 p.m. or so. Mr. A[redacted] then informed me that he hasn’t finished the house yet because he needed to put some shingles under the two windows in the front of the house to make the roof like it blends together and that he would come back to do that either the 29th or 30 of Oct. after his other job. But by this time he had received the letter from the Revdex.com showing that I filed the complaint now he is being totally non- cooperative and not finishing my house portion.27th of Oct. 2015i sent a text to Mr. A[redacted], “I need a memo from you verifying the roof work has been completed or u can sign off on the estimate you gave me saying the work has been completed. When can I get that?” at 10:55 he responded “I will email you tonight. But the Revdex.com also has verification the job has been completed as well. I responded to him at 10:55 a.m., “I need a signed letter from you not the Revdex.com, thanks, I sent the original message to him about the memo at 8:10 p.m. with no response.28 Oct. 2015 I sent the exact same text to him “I need a memo from you verifying the roof work has been completed or u can sign off on the estimate you gave me saying the work has been completed. When can I get that?” at 2: 40 p.m. and at 4:37 p.m., his response was at 6:06 P.m. “I will mail it”. At 7:48 p.m. I texted to Mr. A[redacted], “Easier to email it but I can see your upset so now you want to act even more unprofessional and mail it to me. No problem when do you plan on putting it in the mail?” I also texted at 7:55 p.m. “I am assuming now you won’t be coming back to finish the windows on the house as you stated you would?” His response at 7:55 was” What you mean unprofessional”. Apparently he doesn’t feel anything prior to this conversation is unprofessional in anyway and for that reason he will never work for me again nor will I recommend him to anyone. I am still waiting on the letter. He can state what he wants and have all his phone records to show what he believes, but I have mine as well with evidence of text messages he sent and voicemails he left. His voice mails if he has them I am sure he doesn’t want to share as they are asking him repeatedly when he is going to finish my garage. I made a bad call in feeling sympathetic to his issues and paid him but that gave him no reason to be unprofessional and not finish as he promised or was contractually obligated to. When I hired him he never said anything about rather being hired by the insurance company and if he had no issue dealing with them and providing all necessary paperwork then why is he having issues with me when I ask him for the same paperwork? In my opinion his contract is not complete until my two windows are finished and he is under this contract for five years for labor, so if my roof leaks and it is has shingles come loose he will be required to come fix them, I hope it doesn’t because I feel he won’t honor that portion either.Thank you for your support and please post to your site and send him a copy. I will be filing a complaint with his license company as well as consider a law suit for breach of contract since he wants to start lying about what really happened. And I am still picking up roofing nails and pieces of shingles and trash from his work.Need any more information feel free to email at [redacted] or call at the number I left on the complaint form.
