10 Hands Reviews (1)

Review: The main reason I hired Honey Do Krewe aka 10 Hands LLC is that the owner Craig is a friend of a friend. I asked for some recommendations and my friend recommended him. I got quotes from him and two other companies and although Craig's quote was not the lowest (still very close though) I decided to go with him because I thought a friend of a friend would do a good job. And I thought that if there were any issues, that he would resolve them in a professional and friendly manner. Unfortunately that has not been the case. I hired Craig and paid all money for this job directly to him and his company Honey Do Krewe which changed its name to 10 Hands LLC halfway through the job. He then hired another guy called Teddy to help him with the work, which was understandable because hanging 24 sets of shutters on a 2 story house is not a one-man job. They painted the shutters and told me that each shutter would receive a coat of primer plus 2 coats of paint. I bought top-quality paint from Sherwin Williams because I wanted this to last a long time. For the shutter hardware, he said that each piece of hardware would receive 3 coats of Rustoleum primer/paint to prevent rust. The hinges were the Acme iron hinges that everyone in New Orleans uses. They were purchased from the Bank Architectural Antiques, but they were brand-new hinges. He did this job in January 2014 and everything seemed to go well. However, by June I noticed some rusting spots on the hinges. I contacted Craig and sent him some photos and asked him to come over and take a look. I was not at all angry or accusatory, because I was confident that as a friend of friend, Craig was a professional guy who would stand behind his work and remedy any problems that arose. He did not get back to me, so I wrote again in August, and still not being angry about it because I knew he was busy, I just asked him to come and look at it. I even told him I had a few other projects that I would like him to quote on, including some painting and repairs to my windows. He finally came out at the end of August and looked at the hardware and acknowledged in person that there were bare spots causing rust. I even showed him the extra hardware that was leftover and showed him that there were bare unpainted spots on that as well, and he acknowledged this. He then said that as part of doing the new work on the windows, he would repaint the shutter hardware. I was fine with this solution. A few weeks later, he emailed me back to say that because he doesn't have his Lead Paint Abatement certification, he would not be able to do the work on my windows after all. I asked about the hardware and he ignored my email. I followed up again in November, no response. Again in December, and he finally responded blaming the manufacturer of the hinges and the regular New Orleans rainfall in the previous 6 months (never mind that all of my neighbors have the same hinges with no rusting). I went over to the Bank Architectural Antiques where I bought the hinges and spoke to them and they said they have never had a complaint about the hinges, and that as iron hinges they will rust if they are improperly painted. I wrote back expressing my dissatisfaction and telling him what the Bank Architectural Antiques people said, and then Craig responded blaming the problems on Teddy, the guy he hired to paint the hinges. Then he said he could not get in touch with Teddy and that Teddy would not return his calls etc. and he suggested that I call Teddy myself to resolve the issue with him directly. I did NOT hire Teddy. I hired Craig of Honey Do Krewe/10 Hands LLC and all of my payments were to him. I did not hire or pay or have anything to do with Teddy or Craig's subcontracting problems with Teddy. I wrote back to tell Craig this and explained that I expected him to stand behind his work and remedy any problems. He refused to do so and suggested I hire someone to repair my windows and also pay them to repaint the shutter hardware. This makes no sense, because repairing the windows themselves has nothing to do with repainting the shutter hinges - I had only offered him this job before because I thought that making some extra money would soften the blow for him, since I knew that it would be time-consuming for him to repair the mistakes he made and I felt bad for him, even though it was his fault for doing it improperly or hiring someone who did it improperly. Repainting the shutter hinges would require removing them from the windows and rehanging every single shutter, which is why he doesn't want to do it. Now I will have to hire someone else to do this, which will cost a fortune. I think I may have to replace the hardware too since it's all rusted now. I have asked him repeatedly to work this out in a friendly manner, and he has instead responded in an angry and accusatory manner, blaming the problems on me, the manufacturer of the shutter hinges, the weather in New Orleans, and the guy who he hired to paint the hinges. Not once has he agreed to stand up and take responsibility for his work. I feel I have no further recourse but to submit this complaint and hope that you can assist with me getting either a refund or convincing him to remedy the problems with his work.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund in the amount that it will cost me to have the shutter hardware removed, properly painted (and/or replaced if necessary since a lot of it is now rusted) and rehung.

Response:

At this time, I have been contacted directly by 10 Hands LLC regarding complaint ID 10607083, however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The business owner sent me several emails accusing me of impersonating his business to set up a profile on his business on the Revdex.com website. I called the Revdex.com and spoke to Craig twice to confirm that I had not inadvertently done this when I submitted my complaint against his business online. The business owner repeatedly threatened to sue me for slander and defamation and impersonating his business, so I responded to him informing him I had spoken to the Revdex.com who verified my complaint was submitted correctly and that I had not done anything wrong. I have not heard from him since that email (May 14, 2015). Also I received a quote from a recommended contractor to remove the shutter hardware, use a wire brush to remove the rust, paint with a special anti-rust primer and paint. The quote was $1300. If the business owner of 10 Hands LLC will refund me $1300 of the money I paid to him (nearly $5000) so that I can have his poor work remedied, I would consider the complaint resolved. Originally I would have been happy for 10 Hands to come back and fix the problem, but given his repeated angry emails to me, I feel afraid of him and do not want him near my house again. Please contact me if you need further information. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Consumer
