Home service of my John Deere mower was not conducted properly. Oil not changed and charged for a battery that was not installed.Mower was scheduled for service on 6/7/13. Technician came and wrote paperwork to indicate full service was completed. When I checked the dipstick the oil was filthy. Called the business on 6/8 and was informed by a RUDE customer service person that the battery had also been changed. I had just changed the battery two weeks prior and offered to come down and show them the receipt. Again, she rudely said that the technician advised that the battery tested bad and he had left a message on my phone to tell me that he was changing the battery, and also indicated that he had changed the oil. When I challenged the need for the battery and told her that the technician never left a message on my phone about the need for a battery and also indicated that the oil had not been changed she asked if I wanted to speak to the [redacted] After being put on hold for almost 10 minutes a man named [redacted] came to the phone. I explained my concern with the fact that service had not been completed as indicated and he listened quietly and advised that I was welcome to come down to the center and pick up my battery as all replaced batteries were in the back of the store on a pallet and since the one removed was not a John Deere battery it would be easy to find. I advised that I would come down right away. I went back to the mower to take a picture of the dirty dipstick and discovered that the battery had not been replaced, so took a picture of the battery as well. As I was traveling to the store [redacted] called my cell to advise that I shouldn't waste my time coming down as he was sending a technician on 6/10 to resolve the issue. I told him I would continue to the store and asked why he was now concerned about me coming to the store. He advised that he had called the technician and the technician indicated that he made a mistake on the paperwork and had not changed the battery. I told him I was coming to show him pictures of what had and had not been done. When I arrived I was directed to [redacted]'s office. I told him that what had me unnerved was the fact that I had purchased the tractor from them some years ago because I wanted to support a local business and also wanted to ensure that I had high quality equipment and first rate service, but that I was disappointed this time after doing business with them for so many years that the service was so poor. He said "Let's just see the pictures you talked about." When I showed him the picture of the battery he said "Just skip the battery. I already told you the technician made a mistake" and when he looked at the picture of the dirty dipstick he looked right at me and said "That oil was definitely changed". I have had this mower serviced at 2 year intervals in the past and after the service the oil is always clean, but it was as dark as it had been the day before it was serviced, as I always check the oil before I start the mower to make sure the level is adequate. He told me I just had to trust him because he had been a mechanic for thirty years. I would have to challenge that statement too as he was fairly young. I asked him to correct the errors at no charge because of the fraudulent behavior of his technician and he said,"Nope-full charge.I was going to give you the service for free but I don't like your attitude." After that statement I told him that I would alert the Worcester Telegram and file a complaint with the Revdex.com and his response was "Go ahead, and while you're at it let the Attorney General know about it too." So I will follow his advice and will file a complaint there as well. He also accused me of calling his technician "stupid" which never occurred. In the end, I did not receive a receipt for the service on the day it was done and both my initial call and subsequent conversations were met with a rude attitude and extremely poor customer care. I feel that his business should be investigated to ensure that the service that is being charged for has actaully been done.Desired SettlementDue to the fraudulent nature of the service followed by very rude and inconsiderate customer service which supported the fraudulent service I feel that I should have the corrected service done at no charge. If [redacted] is, in fact, the [redacted] of this company as he indicated then I would hope as a businessman he would want to restore the good faith management of his business. I would like to purchase a new tractor next year from him as he is the only local John Deere carrier, but cannot at this point justify such a purchase given the manner in which I was treated.Business' Initial Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted]I was informed that this case was resolved and closed. Please let me know if this is not the case.Thank you,[redacted]
