1857 Section Foreman Guest House

Review: My wife and I, along with another friend couple, sent in a $100 deposit to spend 3 nights in the guest house based on the website description and pictures and after being assured that there were 2 separate bedrooms and 2 separate bathrooms. My wife and I arrived at 2:30 pm, Oct 9, 2013 and found Ms. [redacted] out back. Our friends had not arrived so she gave us a quick walk through and then lit the pilot lights on the two gas wall heaters downstairs. She asked for the remaining $450 cash due. I told her that we would have to wait on the other couple. Our friends arrived and we gave her the $450 in cash as she requested. Since it was mid-afternoon we left to walk around town to see the sites and find a restaurant to have supper without even unloading our cars. We returned to the guest house after dark, unloaded our cars and began talking in the parlor. Soon after the other wife said she was going to take a bath and went upstairs to their area. She returned and asked if my wife and I would come and show her how to turn on the water. So we went upstairs to see the situation. While checking out the faucet, I noticed a non-skid rubber mat in the bottom of the tub which did not look clean. I picked up the mat and found a large amount of black mold on the underside. We then look around and found a general lack of cleanliness with the oven covered with baked on food, towels round up and stuffed around the window air-conditioner and the inside of the freezer dirty. But the mold was our major concern. I called Ms. [redacted] to tell her what we had found. She asked me what we wanted from her. I stated that we would like to have a refund and find other lodging. She stated that she was not about to give us a refund. Then I told her that we were willing to give up our deposit and we had not even turned down the beds. Again, she stated that she was not returning any money. I then asked if she would come over and clean out the upstairs bathtub. Her response was she would not come over, and that we were being picky and that there was a bath tub downstairs. I told her that it was apparent that we were at an impasse and hung up. We then loaded up our cars and left to find lodging elsewhere and did not use the guest house at all.Desired Settlement: Full refund is what is fair and what any reputable business would do under the same situation. No one should be expected to live or lodge in the conditions found.
