Hired Mr. [redacted] to update ceilings. He claimed the ceilings could be updated and nothing else would need to be done. Living rm & kitchen have spots.
Mr. [redacted] came to my home to bid a ceiling update job. He agreed to knock off popcorn ceiling, prime, & update texture. Claimed nothing else would need to be done to ceilings upon completion of the job. Set date for 6-13-11. Showed up 6-20-11 stating another job took longer than expected. When he arrived he was upset that the big pieces of furniture had not been moved out of the rooms. All of the wall hangings and smaller things had been removed and stored away. We understood the big things would simply be moved to the middle of the room and covered. He says he told us otherwise. He proceeded to move chairs and desks from the back of the house to the kitchen. I then moved those things to the garage by myself. He worked on the back of the house, removing popcorn, priming, and then came back the next day to texture. On the third day he began working in the living room and kitchen. He moved couches to the hallway and covered remaining furniture with plastic. Again, I moved the smaller items to the garage including kitchen chairs and side tables. He worked on knocking off the popcorn and patching spots that needed extra attention. I am not sure if he primed the ceilings that day or the next. The next day he worked on finishing the living room and kitchen. Upon completion of texturizing he removed the plastic and lightly swept up. When removing the plastic from the walls the paint peeled away from the top of the walls. He had warned me that was a possibility but I did not expect it to be as much as it was. He told me he needed another $100 for moving the furniture and I did not complain, even though I also moved the furniture. Everything looked ok other than the mess on the floors and peeling paint. A week later the ceilings had obivious white streaks where the dry wall tape is and the primer has bled through. I contacted Mr. [redacted] to see if he would come look at them and tell me what he could do about the unsightly appearance of the living room and kitchen ceilings. The other rooms are fine. He told me he was busy with another job. A week later I contacted him again. He informed me that the ceilings needed to be painted and he was not coming back. I asked him if he had told me originally that nothing would need to be done to the ceilings upon completion of the job and he stated he did but never guaranteed his work. Then he said I broke the original agreement by making him move furniture. I replied that I had paid him without complaint for his services and the statement he gave me indicated I paid extra for those services. He then told me I needed to have my ceilings painted and hung up on me. He originally bid the job for $1800. to update the ceilings and make them presentable. He billed me $1900. to cover the bathroom patching and moving furniture, an additional $100. I agreed to pay $1900. He was paid by check 6-23-11, the day he completed the work. The check has already been cashed. I had no way to know the ceiling primer would bleed through until the ceilings were completely dry.
