To whom it may concern: Lakes Marine is a locally owned small business We survive on the satisfaction of our customersUnfortunately you can't please everyone The first untrue statement in this letter is that we had this person's boat for monthsI have documentation (signed by the customer involved) proving we had it for less than While that is a longer wait than for a repair, this particular customer was told at the time of drop off that his boat was considered a "project" boat and that it needed extensive repairsWe informed him that we would have to work his repair in between some of our regular service tickets When this customer dropped the boat off there were major parts, such as carburetors, completely missing from the engine The engine was an older engine We did a routine compression check on it In circumstances such as this one we often do a leak down test using one of our specialty tools designed just for 2-stroke outboard engines A leak down tester for a car will not accurately perform this test Again we are a new business and we thrive on our customer's satisfaction The customer's engine was an older engine and some of the parts were NLA (no longer available) Under circumstances if the parts are not available through our vendors, we would return the vessel to the customer and tell them we are unable to complete repairs With this boat being a project type of ticket, not only did we accept parts brought in by the customer, but we went online and helped him find the part through a third party source We do not make purchases this way, because of the frequent compromise of bank cards, but gave the customer the option to purchase the part himself The compression check we did showed the engine to be in good condition, or we would not have gone further with repairThat would have been a waste of not only the customer's time and money, but ours as well A car mechanic would not have been able to test the compression, because the engine did not have a starter and you can not turn the engine fast enough by hand to correctly check outboard compression If the customer was not satisfied with our diagnosis and repair option he should not have signed his invoice If he was questioning the validity of our diagnostic testing he could have said something and we would have been more than happy to show him our findingsWe would not ask our customers to put money into an engine that we wouldn't want to invest in ourselves Again, we are a small business with just under two years and our business continues to grow exponentially This would not be possible if we did not take care of our customers We have built this business on honesty and customer service and will continue to do soThanks, [redacted]

To whom it may concern:
3 Lakes Marine is a locally owned small business.  We survive on the satisfaction of our customers. Unfortunately you can't please everyone.
The first untrue statement in this letter is that we had this person's...

boat for 7 months. I have documentation (signed by the customer involved) proving we had it for less than 5.  While that is a longer wait than normal for a repair, this particular customer was told at the time of drop off that his boat was considered a "project" boat and that it needed extensive repairs. We informed him that we would have to work his repair in between some of our regular service tickets.  When this customer dropped the boat off there were major  parts, such as carburetors, completely missing from the engine.  The engine was an older engine.  We did a routine compression check on it.  In circumstances such as this one we often do a leak down test using one of our specialty tools designed just for 2-stroke outboard engines.  A leak down tester for a car will not accurately perform this test.    Again we are a new business and we thrive on our customer's satisfaction.
The customer's engine was an older engine and some of the parts were NLA (no longer available).  Under normal circumstances if the parts are not available through our vendors, we would return the vessel to the customer and tell them we are unable to complete repairs.  With this boat being a project type of ticket, not only did we accept parts brought in by the customer, but we went online and helped him find the part through a third party source.  We do not make purchases this way, because of the frequent compromise of bank cards, but gave the customer the option to purchase the part himself.
The compression check we did showed the engine to be in good condition, or we would not have gone further with repair. That would have been a waste of not only the customer's time and money, but ours as well.  A car mechanic would not have been able to test the compression, because the engine did not have a starter and you can not turn the engine fast enough by hand to correctly check outboard compression.
If the customer was not satisfied with our diagnosis and repair option he should not have signed his invoice.  If he was questioning the validity of our diagnostic testing he could have said something and we would have been more than happy to show him our findings. We would not ask our customers to put money into an engine that we wouldn't want to invest in ourselves.
Again, we are a small business with just under two years and our business continues to grow exponentially.  This would not be possible if we did not take care of our customers.  We have built this business on honesty and customer service and will continue to do so.
Thanks,
