mechanic, bought a second diesel mechanic to road test and evaluate this truck and stated that everything was in proper working conditionThe owner gave the use of this truck to his mechanic (John F*), who drove this truck for the stated milesEnclosed you will find a copy of the registered letter dated 5/15/15, from John F*, mechanic, requesting $8,for a transmission overhaulAccording to your letter dated 5/20/15, they are now claiming $8,After receiving the letter dated 5/15/15, from John F*, contacted *** ***, Manager of *** Transmission regarding this issue*** ***, stated in the letter enclosed faxed dated 5/29/15, that any problem with the transmission could not be hidden by changing the fluid certainly not for the stated driven miles*** *** estimated a complete overhaul transmission with updates is $3,with a month warranty (wholesale).This truck was sold as a consignment vehicle with full disclosure of the previous owner's modification to the exhaust as stated in the Buyers GuideThis vehicle was “SOLD AS IS"The owner and mechanics were fully aware of the changes to the exhaustWe have a written statement from the previous owner that he removed the DPF pipeSection states any person removing any emission part is liableWe did not alter this vehicle in any way.Regards,Lou B

*** *** (mechanic) road tested this truck twiceThe transmission never acted up because there was nothing wrong with itAfter driving it a second time he and the other mechanic he brought with him found no problemsAfter purchasing this truck the owner purchaser (*** ***) gave permission to *** *** to drive this *** for the stated milesThis *** *** truck was a consignment vehicle “SOLD AS IS"If *** *** thought that there may be a problem, he should have discouraged the purchased of the truckHe called here every day along with *** *** saying they wanted to purchase this truckThe first phone call received after the purchase was almost four weeks later from *** *** stating about the transmissionI then tried to contact *** ***She called back on a three way call to *** *** and I stated it could be the tunerI have only relied on what they have told meOnly after he told me about the transmission did I contact *** Transmission, *** *** who I have dealt with in the pastHe stated that he has fixed many *** trucks with this same problem nothing to do with the fluidsTransmissions are his business this is all he doesHe stated that a complete overhaul transmission with updates is $with a month warranty (wholesale)Wholesale because he would give the discounted price from business to businessAt that time I called *** *** (purchaser) and offered $1,towards this repair as a good will jestureNow in this response to you they report *** *** would fix it for $Not far off from *** Transmission estimateIn their previous letters to us they said it would be $in one and $in anotherTo date I only have a record of what they have told me no physical evidenceThey state they want a new transmission put in a used truckAccording to *** this truck has been serviced at *** dealersThis truck was priced very comparable to every used *** Super Duty truck with same equipment for saleDue to the negative on-line comments made by *** *who is not the owner of this truckMy good will offer for the $for the *** Transmission repair is now off the table.Regards,

I am rejecting this response because:
When I first road tested the truck I had suspicions of a transmission problem so I brought a 2nd mechanic back and the Transmission did not act up at all. After purchasing the truck it started acting up again, I called the 3000 West Auto sales  and they stated it could be in the tuning of the computer, I checked with multiple tuning companies (i.e [redacted]) they informed me that a flare up between 3rd and 4th gear cannot be fixed with any tuning. I was told to check the condition of the transmission fluid and change the fluid. When I ([redacted] from [redacted])  went to drain the transmission fluid the transmission drain plug was not torqued properly the breakaway torque for transmission drain plug was at 12NM (breakaway torque is the torque it takes to break the bolt loose)  the factory torque spec is 18NM which means someone else was in their prior to purchasing the truck. When draining the fluid I found clutch material in the fluid (pics and video enclosed) the transmission fluid did not smell burnt and the amount of friction material in the fluid indicated the transmission is shot. I believe the fluid was changed and possibly had an additive like [redacted]” put in it so it would stop slipping so they can sell the truck. When I spoke to [redacted] from [redacted] and showed him the pictures he confirmed the transmission is shot due to all the clutch material in the fluid. Per [redacted]'s request I dropped the pan and found a good amount of clutch material in the bottom of the pan (example: black material in bottom of silver pan in picture) This does not happen over a short period of time I drove only 766 miles and I am greatly unsatisfied.  Lou stated he spoke to [redacted] his transmission person and Lou agreed he would pay $1,000 towards [redacted] doing the work but [redacted] would only warranty for 6 months. How can [redacted] from [redacted] give an estimate on what it will cost to fix the transmission and provide a warranty period if I never brought the truck there and if he did not see or drive the truck before. If he did see the truck to check the transmission it was brought there prior to my purchase that would mean 3000 West Auto Sales was well aware of the transmission problem and sold it to us anyway. Originally when looking into how much a new transmission with torque converter for the truck with labor and fluid it was estimated about $8,000. To have it fixed correctly [redacted] is able to rebuild the transmission for $4000 and will provide a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. I do not feel that I should have to have pay to rebuild a transmission on a truck I purchased for $32,999 after only driving 766 miles
