Initial Business Response /* (1000, 11, 2015/07/10) */
[redacted] R ** does not sell or buy vehicles. This is not a complaint for [redacted] R ** as we are a paintless dent removal company.
We own a car dealership down the street and this complaint, if anything, should be on that record. These...
consumers purchased the vehicle as is and declined the warranty. We test drove the vehicle with the consumers and let them take it to a mechanic at [redacted]. They came back with the money and did the paperwork and purchased the vehicle as is without warranty. She called us a week later complaining about problems with the vehicle and put her husband on the phone who agreed to bring it back to us. He let us have the car for three hours and even told us he was embarrassed because he could not get it to overheat. We left it running for three straight hours and drove it around and it would not overheat. We explained this to the consumer and then he explained a business up the street said it was a head gasket. It is not a head gasket because if it was, it would not be an intermittent problem. I never heard from him for another week. He called and said it was doing it again. I told him to let my mechanic take a look at it and we'd see. The business he was at wanted to quote an astronomical amount for the repairs. He asked me to help him pay half. I will not pay another shop and believe it is being misdiagnosed. I have capable mechanics and and my own shop. I am not going to stand behind another businesses work and pay retail shop rates when I have my own shop. The consumer agreed it was not a head gasket and explained he has worked with head gaskets before. I told him if it was a head gasket we would work with him on the price. He told me they already had his car. I asked if they had only diagnosed it and he said yes. I told him to just go in and tell them he didn't want them to work on it and bring it back to me. He said he'd do that and we set up an appointment two days after. I called him the next day and left him a message letting him know my mechanic would be waiting for him the next day at 10 am and told him to call me if he had any questions. He never called nor showed up. 10 days later his wife called complaining to me saying I owed them money and explained they were already pulling the car apart. I have already specifically told him I was not paying another company for the repairs. She went on to tell me the timing belt was broken. The timing belt will not overheat a vehicle, it wont even let the vehicle run. She was attempting to mislead me. She then went on to tell me it was a water pump. We never did any thermostat work either, they did it themselves. He had his buddy [redacted] put it in and I don't know if he put it in correctly or not. I have offered to take a look at it and he refused. I then offered to pay $50 for the water pump. I asked if that was good and he said no because he was out $1,800. His wife told me $2,700.
