This company is a fraud! They had one store in Orlando and abruptly shut down by calling me (Jim)three days before my wedding! He took our money and many other brides and could care less about it. He had to know his business was in trouble! Family business? Really? What family does this to brides who trusted them?

We strongly disagree with this complaint. The customer has left out the most important information. Now as the owner of this company, [redacted] I opened this business 53 years ago when female business owners were rare, competing in the market place as a female was difficult, but since I had...

a B.A. Degree from [redacted] collage in Botany and Horticulture and a Masters Degree, I had the credentials and expertise to form a top quality company exceeding the competition. Over the years, as a family business we enjoyed the pleasure of creating top quality weddings at affordable prices, earning many awards and becoming one of the largest wedding florists in the country as well as being featured on TV shows. Now at 88 years old, retired as well deserved, my children are following in my foot steps. Its rare that I get involved, but this couple needs to be corrected publicly and legally. This year, as in every year we donate huge amounts of money to women's charities, sponsored The Womens Journey conference and have paid tuition for special schools for disabled children. We supplied the flowers for The Rescue Puppy Foundation and many other charity events just this year alone, so when I say if this bride deserved a refund we would have done so promptly. She didn't, I have reviewed the facts and pictures of her wedding flowers that we took at her venue and the were beautiful and exactly as ordered, next we always deliver our weddings an hour or two before they start as we told the bride and groom, this wedding started at 3:30 and we delivered the flowers to the bride in her dressing room at 2:00 with her wedding coordinator, who worked with us on location for 3 hours till 5pm setting up all the arrangements.  The bride and wedding coordinator durring that time loved the flowers and never complained about the quality and our pictures show that true, if anybody would like to see them call me [redacted] I will be happy to show you just how beautiful they are, big glamours centerpieces on gold candelabras, witch I loaned them for free. The bride didn't mention in this complaint that they broke the candelabra, and still have not paid us the 500.00 for them and the fee's. When we gave the bride her bouquet in her dressing room she was in regular dress, not her wedding dress, surly not about to walk down the isle. I would also like to address the other either false or misleading accusations, Our company name is named after me, The Plant Lady Stores Inc, DBA 800rosebig, fully licensed in Newport Beach. We have over 200 5 star reviews this past year from customers extremely pleased with our goods and services. With 53 years experience as a top florist we are extremely proud of our staff and grateful to all our clients. I would strongly urge this bride and groom to contact me directly as their false or misleading comments are designed to hurt our excellent reputation and they may be guilty of slander. I will be forwarded this complaint to my attorney to see if we can sue for damages if this is not retracted. Our company has never been sued for any issues as has a great reputation in the community for years! Last I would like the bride to come in and pay her bill for the broken candelabra, when we loan them out for free, thats the least you can do.

Allow me to respond correctly and appropriately to this companies response to my complaint. First off, the City of Newport Beach as of today and from our independent investigation does not have [redacted] or a DBA of “800 Rose Big” as being the owner on record. Again, we are still waiting to hear back as to who really owns this company. In 800 Rose Big rebuttal response, I don’t see how any of “[redacted]’s information is relevant to my complaint and would appreciate the issue of my complaint to stay on topic. It really doesn’t matter if they donate to charities, or pay tuition for disabled children or help with puppy rescue. Although, that is very nice of them, it really isn’t relevant to my pending complaints against them. I will however, respond to the comment of 800 Rose Big stating “They are featured on TV shows and have earned many awards”. I have contacted “[redacted]” and spoke to their customer service department. I asked how awards are issued for the vendors who advertise with them and those who don’t. I documented that call to the customer service agents response, which was “We give those awards to people who get 10 good reviews in a years time. My next question was, “Would your company ([redacted]) feel it was inappropriate if a company bribed people to write good reviews by giving them $100.00 worth of free flowers and even placed that verbiage in their contract?” The representative seemed appalled and stated that I need to talk to their legal department to let them know what was going on as she felt that was “completely unethical”.  It is my understanding that they record those calls as well. With respect to TV shows, we found that [redacted], her son is the President , Host and Motivational speaker (according to the Bridal Channel Television Network’s website) and they show their corporate office located as the same address as 800 Rose Big on their website. It would, in my opinion be pretty easy to give yourself awards and promote your business through what appears to be a third unbiased party. Clearly, if Ms. [redacted] would have read and understood the complete facts she would not have responded in the way she did because she is incorrect. Yes, the wedding started at 3:30pm. When my husband and I went to preview our arrangement(s) I was very sick with bronchitis and heavily medicated but made sure I made it there along with my husband for the second appointment as I had no choice but to cancel the day before due to my M.D. order to stay in bed.  Nonetheless, my husband and I added more flowers to our order that day  because our guest list had doubled and changed the time of delivery at the request of their staff member “Regal”. Because our wedding was held at an historical venue, we had to get permission from the venue to deliver at 9:00 am which we did.  Therefore, the original contract was amended. The flowers were not delivered by 2:00 pm in my dressing room because I wasn’t even in my dressing room until after 230pm and there are camera’s all over that venue that will show what time 800 Rose Big came and left. I was not in regular dress attire as Ms [redacted] states, and I look forward to the delivery person explaining to the courts exactly what I had on when he finally delivered the wilted flowers. I was very upset and my friends and photographer all were trying to calm me down. This was not how I pictured my wedding to start off. When their staff member showed up in my dressing room and I saw the flowers I was very angry and upset. I said “What are these”???? I asked him to get [redacted] on the phone and to call me immediately—I did not get one call back. I sure hope that 800 Rose Big got the name of the person{s) they talked to because when we talked to the venue staff and coordinator they adamantly denied any of 800 Rose Big allegations and are willing to write statements and go to court if subpoenaed  to tell the truth. We were told everyone was scrambling and very nervous because the flowers hadn’t arrived when they were supposed to. When the 800 Rose Big representative finally did arrive they were “extremely rude” to everyone including the venue staff which is why everyone remembered them all so well. We took photos of the flowers as well—more importantly I had a venue of 120 plus people at my wedding down to my chaplain who stated his own boutonniere we ordered for him was wilted and he felt horrible for us as he knew how much trouble it took to put this event  together especially on New Years Eve.  [redacted] keeps mentioning “The Plant Lady”, that is not who we did business with. There is nothing on their advertisement mentioning that name or anywhere on their contract and even on their contracts they state they have been in business 53 years but the City of Newport Beach licensing only shows “The Plant Lady” (which was the first I ever heard of that name) only in Newport since 2012 or 2013. With respect to me or my husband talking to [redacted] directly—We requested that to [redacted] during a meeting we held at 800 Rose Big on January 18th at 10:00 am (since he told us his Mother owned the business) However he refused to allow us to talk to her and refused to call her in front of us and stated “it was his 87 year old Mother’s birthday and she was very slow”. Clearly, if she indeed wrote this rebuttal herself to my original complaint--- he was again, clearly not being truthful. With regards to the Candelabra—I didn’t put that in my original complaint because again it was not relevant and I prefer to stay on topic. Now that it has been mentioned, let me say this—We noticed that the venue accidentally broke the candelabra, upon return of the loaned candelabra’s my husband and one of the groomsmen went directly up to “Regal—800 Rose Big head designer” explained the broken candelabra and asked him “How much do we owe you for that?” at which time he explained “[redacted] said they were not going to charge us for the broken candelabra or any restocking fees (there was never any mention of restocking fees beforehand) and he sadly apologized to my husband for everything”.  Again, my husbands  groomsman was present during that conversation and was helping to carry in all their loaned items. Perhaps, they should have paid my husband and his groomsman to restock the items since none of their staff helped carry them in.  My complaint is not to hurt their reputation but to write the truth of our experience so no other bride and groom have to go through all the distress we went through by their misrepresentation and poor quality of flowers. My husband wrote to 800 Rose Big and gave them 30 days to respond for a full refund before we took legal action. I looked at our meeting on January 18th 2016 more as a mediation which got us no where. [redacted] claimed he would get back to us in a few days and have not heard from him since.  Perhaps, [redacted] needs to have clarification that “Slander” is something said untrue and Libel is something written that is untrue” to which I don’t fall into neither one of those categories. Clearly, someone on their end is not being completely forthright with her. As far as us paying for the broken candelabra we offered not once but twice and was told “not to worry about it” to which that conversation was recorded unbeknownst to [redacted] to show all the discrepancies in things he told us and acknowledged. Only when [redacted] didn’t get what he wanted to hear (clearly spoken on tape) that when I said “we have every intention in taking this case in front of a judge” did he threaten to make us pay for restocking fees, the broken candelabra and attorney fees. I stated, I would feel more comfortable letting a judge discern this case with the witnesses I have vs his witness’s and testimony. Let me add, I am receiving calls and emails from other unhappy brides and consumers. One of the brides told me today that [redacted] is out there bashing me and  saying untrue things about me saying “ I am bitter and vindictive and knew about who I have reported him to and supposably every entitity has thrown out my complaints” these are only a few things he has told her personally. This woman doesn’t even know me but felt a need to let me know the negative and unprofessional comments [redacted] is saying. She is ready to testify to that and join in a class action lawsuit due her wedding being ruined as well —so in addition to the misrepresentation, poor quality of flowers not up to industry par, false advertising that they are the best and “one of the largest florists in the country” coupled with emotional distress and now slander, I have every intention in moving forward to have this case heard in court. I don’t want to see another bride go through what we went through on a day that should have been filled with love and a loving spirit. Instead, of embarrassment and sadness. I will not retract anything I wrote because everything I wrote is true. Please feel free to have your legal counsel call me at his/her convenience.    Respectfully,
[redacted]

Review: In November 2015 my then fiancee now husband and I watched an ad on tv about 800 Rose Big. We decided to drive down to Newport to see if they would be a good fit for us and our NYE wedding. We were greeted by a man who told us his name was [redacted] and he was the owners son. He also stated that they have been in the area for over 53 years and proudly showed off all his awards. He offered us both wine to which we declined. We proceeded to have him to a consultation for our wedding theme. In the end, we agreed on a price and time of delivery. A month later we had our preview appt with a man named [redacted]. He had one arrangement ready and it was beautiful. We explained to [redacted] that our guest list had increased and therefore needed to order more flowers. [redacted] then asked us if they could deliver earlier than the original contract time. My husband had to call the venue and ask as they are very particular about who enters the property etc. We agreed to modify the time of delivery to 0900. Our wedding was at 330pm so we rearranged our photographer to start shooting at 1pm. By 1pm we still had no flowers. We were back and forth on the phone only to be told the driver was stuck in traffic at 230pm. I was very emotional that I wouldnt have flowers to walk down the aisle with. The flowers arrived 45 minutes before the wedding thus losing all time to take family pictures, bride and groom pics etc. When I saw the flowers I was appalled. They were brown around the edges, and wilting. I asked the delivery person to get [redacted] on the phone immediately to which he never callled. I was told by the delivery person that the time set for delivery was only tenative and could not be guaranteed!! I yelled at him stating they were the ones who asked for a morning delivery. I told him the flowers looked awful and I would never have agreed to what was delivered. Complete bait and switch. Our reception flowers wilted within a few hours. Very embarrassing.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund or will pursue legal action along with 6 other couples who had a similar experience I found on YELP. This company does not have a license under 800 Rose Big for the city of Newport Beach. I have already filed a formal complaint to which they are investigating. Additionally, they do not have a license to serve alcohol and I have already placed a call to ABC for investigation, I filed a complaint with Federal Trade Commission as they made my husband write a personal check for the balance of the order to [redacted]s wife not the so called owner of the company. I want a copy of my amended contract to which they refused to give us. I dont want another couple going through what we did by their clear misrepresentation and fraudulent lies.

Response:

We strongly disagree with this complaint. The customer has left out the most important information. Now as the owner of this company, [redacted] I opened this business 53 years ago when female business owners were rare, competing in the market place as a female was difficult, but since I had a B.A. Degree from [redacted] collage in Botany and Horticulture and a Masters Degree, I had the credentials and expertise to form a top quality company exceeding the competition.
