Review: Payment has been made in full, one window had a crack in it after installation, over 2 months ago. Milgard states A1 Glass is responsible A1 Glass states Milgard is responsible. After several attempts to get the window fixed, taking time off work for appointment times, at least 4 the window is not fixed. Tonight there was an attempt to fix the window. Glass was replaced in the frame the metal sticks up in view of the window, does not look like a new window. While reinstalling the framed window [redacted] broke the spring and now the window makes a horrible noise when it is opened and closed. I let him know I was not pleased and he got angry and I could hear him speed away. Over $6,000.00 cash was paid to this company for newly installed windows not botched up fixed windows. Also the framing around the window is loose now after trying to fix the window. Before [redacted] left he made sure that I knew Milgard is responsible not his company. [redacted] at Milgard states A-1 is responsible for the fix. I'm not happy and I'm tired of fighting to get what I paid for... a new window that works and looks new.

This complaint is over a year old. ?

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely,

Review: Faulty weather strips included in 3 doors they installed causing energy loss and entry of bugs.

Purchased a new home in which they installed storefront windows, bedroom windows and doors by Vista. Receipt from previous owner showed some $70,000 spent 4 years ago, still under warranty period. Two of the kitchen storefront windows fogged up each time it rained, and the master bathroom windows developed internal condensation. The external seals throughout the windows were very short and exposed the window glass. Initially, they refused to acknowledge the problem or that the windows were under warranty even though they have a 10-year warranty, and quoted me a large cost to repair their defective windows. [redacted] told me that he did the job for the old owner for cash as a favor, so no warranty exists at all. Really stunning old boys club type of perspective. I even had them install 5 screen doors so the regular doors can be opened without bugs getting in. That install they broke one of the Hunter Douglass Blind cords and left 2 of the 5 door latches with a defective locking mechanism. When called about it, they always give you the impression that they did nothing wrong and that one is burdening them and they are doing you a favor to repair what their defective work product. [redacted] eventually agreed to replace the exterior rubber seals throughout the house, but not the storefront windows. They did replace the locking mechanism on the doors. We were going out of town and checked all the window latches to make sure they were secure. One of them was very flimsy and could easily be dislodged. Again, unprofessional work for this level of cost. They sent someone out to tighten it but refused to replace the faulty latch, calling it normal, and that locks all have different tensions. Did not make sense since all the other latches were very tight and could not be dislodged. We recently had a newborn and noticed she was getting bit by bugs. I sprayed and fumigated several times but she still was being bit. Our energy bill was also higher than expected for a house with high end two pane windows and doors. Checked all the weather stripping and found gaping holes in the nursery room and 2 media room doors, bugs were getting in and there was a large draft leading to energy loss. The nursery door was clearly not framed properly as it does not fall into position properly to create a tight seal. Took pictures and sent them to them, requesting a reasonable solution of replacing the weather strip with one that closes the gaps. After a few weeks, [redacted] called me but I was at work and had my wife call him back. He yelled at her, was rude, refused to acknowledge any fault, and informed her he is no longer going to do business with us. I notified by email Debbie, his wife and co-owner, but she did not respond. This company does not do honest business and take responsibility for their workmanship. [redacted] thinks being rude to customers with legitimate concerns is professional. It is absolutely not and he is completely unacceptable in his conduct.Desired Settlement: We only wanted the company to come out to the house to replace the faulty weather strip that they used on the 3 doors so that the doors when closed do not have a gap, preventing the large draft and energy loss as well as the entry of bugs. This is what any door should accomplish, especially doors of the cost that they installed in the house.

[redacted] should formally apologize for his unprofessional behavior towards my wife.

[redacted],

Your windows were made by Vistawall and installed in 2006, for the last six years, prior to you moving in the house we had no issues or complaints regarding the quality of the workmanship or product installed in the home.

When you had originally contacted us last year bringing to our attention that there were failed units in the house that you purchased we explained to you that Vistawall had been bought out by another company and we would have to do some research as to how the issue would need to be handled. You were very adamant that you had purchased very expensive windows from the previous homeowner and that there was a warranty that covered the work and materials to you at no cost. This is not true, and we are sorry if someone had told you this, but it absolutely did not come from our company. The glass units do have a prorated 10 year warranty that would have covered only part of the materials replacement cost, but in order to try and keep you as a happy customer we purchased the new insulated glass units out of our pocket and supplied the labor to install them at no charge to you.

For the screens doors that were installed for you, we made it out the same day that you called stating we broke your expensive Hunter Douglas blinds. Once we arrived, our installer saw that the knot on the string had simply came untied, and we slid the knob back on the draw string and tied a new knot for you.

The doors that you are now having air infiltration and bug issues with were also installed in 2006 and are not faulty, but to be serviced. These types of doors require periodic maintenance which typically ends up being about every 18-24 months depending upon use, and it appears that they have not been serviced in the 8 years that they have been in your house. Based on our past dealings and repeated demands from you and your wife that these doors should be serviced at no charge because of some type of out[redacted]ding warranty we felt that we had no option but to refuse our services to you, as any further dealings would more than likely end in you being unhappy no matter what lengths we went to try and please you.

At no point were we ever dishonest with you or your wife and are sorry that we weren't able to satisfy your needs.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

The receipts we have for the installation of the doors and glass do not reflect any anticipated service schedule. Nor did we receive any such information upon completing the new project regarding the screens. At least one of the screen doors did have a faulty locking mechanism which required repair shortly after installation. We were not upset that a faulty mechanism was installed, we in good faith realize that this is part of doing business. The service person came out and changed out the locking mechanism on the newly installed screen door and that rectified that situation. The windows were leaking moisture due to poor external sealing. This was also repaired but only after much discussion and resi[redacted]ce on your part. Since the seals were replaced we have not seen the leaking of moisture internally as we did before the seals were replaced.

The explanation you provide about seals needing to be serviced was not offered to my wife when she was called by Stan. He was rude and offensive, and she should not have been treated that way. A1 should take pride in its work, someone could have easily come out, been sensitive to her concern that our newborn was suffering bug bites daily, and there was a sub[redacted]tial draft due to those doors lacking proper weatherstripping seal being in place, which is part of the original install work that should have taken place. The nursery door was clearly not installed properly at onset because it does not align when locking like the others do.

We would happily rescind the Revdex.com complaint if you cared enough to come check out the concerns, and treated your customer politely, and assessed the concern satisfactorily. When we were going on vacation and saw that a lock was loose, we called you in advance, you came out, tightened it, and informed us that the mechanisms have some slack but that does not alter their ability to provide safe locking. We accepted that explanation and took comfort in it. we too run a business, but we do not raise our voice to customers and dismiss them as [redacted] did my wife.

We would like A1 to send someone out to assess our complaint so we can resolve this issue. we think that is fair and reasonable.

Response:

The nursery door that you are wanting us to repair was installed properly and more than likely is only in need of an adjustment as it worked fine for the previous home owner for many years. We have already replaced insulated glass units (not simply seals) at no cost to you even though they were no longer fully covered under warranty. Your wife's initial demands of us repairing this door at no charge to you will not be met. As mentioned before we are not interested in continuing our business relationship with you. We feel that no matter what lengths we go to you will always be an issue or reason that you should not have to pay for the materials and/or services rendered.
