One thing we had wanted to do since moving into this house a few years ago was replace the old deck on the back of the house. Being an "elderly gent" who hung up his tool belt years ago, we decided to have the job done for us. We talked with a few but the one who impressed us the most was Mr. Billy Wheeler of A-1 Remodeling by Randall J Smith. We explained what we wanted (which included an extension of the new deck and relocation of the stairs) and Billy ran with the project. The first thing we received were professional drawings of the project and a "complete" description of work to be done, from demolition to materials to be used, labor involved, our additional "wants" and cleanup. We knew that A-1 Remodeling would be our choice.
Next, we were introduced to the construction team led by Mr. Earl Holmes. A date was set... all we had to do is sit back and watch the work being done. Earl was a hands-on supervisor who made sure the work was done to the highest standards. He inspected every aspect of the job; it was obvious he insisted on the highest quality and his team carried that out. He interacted with us on a daily basis to make sure the work was meeting our expectations.
Billy was on site near daily inspecting the progress of the build and keeping us informed as to the schedule and what to be done. Earl and his team were absolutely positive people to work with as they were determined to give us everything we wanted.
From start to finish, we are so happy that we chose A-1 Remodeling. We are absolutely thrilled by the new deck. In our opinion, if you want the job done and want it done right, it's A-1 Remodeling for the job.

Thanks for the complimentary review, these are some of the reasons we, our project managers and subcontractors, work hard. We want clients to experience value, visible improvement to their homes, and long-term enjoyment with our projects. As our client, you too made good choices which helped to made our job successful.
Thanks again,

Our 13 year old home experienced a lot of settling. Floors were sagging, Sheetrock was cracking, even bulges in Sheetrock corners. The 20 foot ceilings had tape pulling loose. A-1 came to our rescue. Because they were so thorough we found out that we also needed a French drain to handle rain and sprinkler water. They added support under the house and actually added four jacks where there was only one on a main structural wall. A-1 brought in repair people who fixed the floors and Sheetrock. Painters then came and did their jobs. Tile people then came and took up cracked tile in master bathroom and replaced with new tile. Stairwell spindles were removed and replaced with wrought iron spindles. After each segment of the work they cleaned up after themselves. Any work needed in the future I would definitely use them again.

This company is awesome for large or small home remodels, or repairs. You get what you pay for with these guys. Their crew is honest and hard working. They pay attention to detail to make sure things are done to the clients expectations. I will definitely hire them for my next home project.

I was looking for someone to come in quickly and do some remodeling that my carpenter doesn't do (drywall). A-1 Remodeling not only responded to my request, but was able to meet my quick time frame. Their work crew was pleasant, hardworking and professional. I could not ask for more. (Will be using them again when I need additional work done to my home and recommend to all giving them a call if you need some work done. Thank you A-1 Remodeling.

Approximately July 23,2018 *** posted his request on a website "Houzz" seeking a contractor to repair a section of house siding causing a leak. See Document. "You have a new message on *** , Gave to , 7/23/19". The document is a narrative of events, not in chronological order, leading up to our repair and the subsequent repair by another contractor which voided our warranty. Mr. entered into a contract on August 10,2018 for a roof repair due to a water leak after being advised by our project manager, Harold Smith, that his roof physically appeared to be in good shape. Mr. advised he had already had several contractors - to quote him, " You are the fourth roofer to take on this job" and not one contractor had solved the problem yet. Our project manager, , advised him that he didn't believe the roof was the issue, but Mr. insisted that it was even after being advised that the problem wasn't just the roof, but most likely included the deteriorated house siding above the roof which was the purpose of our response from his post on . We agreed with Mr. to do as requested and as specified in the enclosed contract dated 8-3-18 between *** and *** and A-1 Remodeling by Randall J Smith and signed on 8-10-18. On 8-13-18, Mr. acknowledged the repair as complete and signed our enclosed "Certificate of Completion" and paid the final on his contract. Mr. was advised that there wasn't a problem with his roof as determined during our removal and reconstruction, but the problem was with the house siding and lack of house wrap, which he still didn't want to address. On 9/29/18 we received notice that there was a leak problem thru a social media post. An appointment was established with Mr. for 10/8/18 with a follow up for 10/12/19 with our quote for the siding replacement. Our quote was presented, discussed and rejected by Mr. saying that is was "too much". We explained why we wouldn't reduce our bid anymore and continued our discussion about the pros and cons of options for the repairs. During that time, I felt empathy for the 's considering what they had been through with other contractors and not accepting our recommendation of repairing the siding from the beginning of our involvement but deciding to repair the roof again.
Eventually our conversation went to Mr. suggesting the hiring of our subcontractor to work for Mr. managing the project himself to save money. Reluctantly, we approved our subcontractor to work for Mr. but that when any contractor or subcontractor made repairs that included new work- the siding, and recontruction of part of the project that our project manager *** had already supervised, being the roof repair, that our warranty would be void. Since the project would not be ours and we wouldn't have our supervisor (project manager) in charge and on site. This was made clear to Mr. but his focus was on how to make the repair and save money. Our subcontractor asked if he could use our account to purchase materials from *** and we made a point with Mr. that he would be billed at our cost for purchased materials, for which he agreed. All arrangements were verbal at this point. We wouldn't have a contract since it wasn't our job and we wanted to help both Mr. and the subcontractor. ", the subcontractor, sent his quote to us to review, he seemed to understand the scope of his project, but his English and composition were very poor. After discussion with *** about the "Vagueness" of his proposal, he requested us to rewrite his bid for him and he used the copy we provided as illustrated in the narrative to contract with Mr.. From the messages we received from Mr. concerning , there was a communication issue. We would forward the messages we received for *** sent to us by Mr., not understanding why or if they were ever sent to *** and whether he responded or not was unknown to us, however it appeared there was still a connection or communication issue between the two of them. The issue that developed with *** and Mr. is why clients hire us for our supervision and project management which would normally be our responsibility , but in this case, since this wasn't our job, the project was contracted between *** and Mr. and was as much Mr. responsibility as it was 's. The material statement from *** was much less than originally anticipated and when forwarded to Mr. we'd receive his reply that the project wasn't finished, as if it was our responsibility. To us, it indicated there was a continued problem between Mr. and . When the next month's statement from *** was received and still not paid, a copy was sent to Mr. which included the accrued interest charge. An unpleasant response was included in the letter from Mr. and a dime was taped to the letter, leaving us to presume it represented a partial payment on the account? Over the next several months, we continued to receive negative communication from both Mr and Mrs. and found negative reviews on several media sites about our business as seen on *** and . On April 22 2019 we received communication that there was another leak from his roof, requesting us to honor a warranty which had been voided when Mr. hired *** to do subsequent work after our project was completed. Mr. continued his communication through August of 2019, when it appears, he reestablished contact with . Now, regretfully, Mr. has made his complaint about us with you, the Revdex.com. He has made several poor choices through the ordeal of attempting to repair his leak. I've often wondered what happened to the first 3 contractors he hired to make these repairs. When we were hired, he insisted he knew more about the necessary repair than we did. That poor decision caused him to hire another contractor even though some time before our involvement, he had knowledge or a recommendation that the siding was the issue and not the roof which is the post on Houzz to which we intially responded. Now, he has trouble with a fifth contractor and wants to hold us responsible for what a subsequent contractor to us has or hasn't done. We sincerely wish Mr & Mrs. the best of results in continuing to work with their fifth contractor, or sixth as the case may be, however our responsiblity ended when the fifth contractor was hired to partially re-work what we did, as the fourth contractor, and to finally do the project that was originally requested on the *** website. As a small business owner, ans as one senior to another, I had empathy with the 's which is why I agreed to allow a subcontractor that we'd been using for work for Mr. since he perceived that it would be a cost effective solution to his problem. And knowing the struggles *** was having in establishing himself, I wanted to help him too. Mr. was advised about the need of supervision with *** and in hiring him that it would void our warranty since we wouldn't be supervising the project to our standards. Now it appears as evidenced from the communications from the 's that the project wasn't successful, which isn't our fault.
Sincerely

Customer Response • Dec 07, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Before I get into the rebuttal part of this response, I want to pass on that we contracted with yet another roofer who on one trip has fixed the leak. It has been six weeks and several good rains and no problems. He also answered the phone if you call him. As stated earlier, if A1 and their contractor () had fixed the leak as we paid them to do, none of this would have happened.
It is true that I had previously tried several other roofers without success and was upset about it. I certainly did not tell them how I wanted the roof repaired. After all, they were the experts and should have known what they were doing. After their first attempt at repair and giving me a one year warranty they proceeded to try to get out of any responsibility by saying *** would do the second repair and they would buy him his supplies. No mention was made of voiding the warranty. *** had done all the work and their responsibility was only to collect the money. When I still had a leak after the attempted repair no one would accept responsibility for the botched repair. No phone calls were returned. *** kept putting me off to finish the job. I delayed payment for the supplies because the job was not finished. When finally finished, the bill was payed. I was ten cents short by mistake when the check was written so I sent a dime as a final payment.
My obligations were always met whether theirs were not as relates to finishing the job or returning calls or texts.
Since they left themselves open to poor job results, I let it be known that they are not what they profess to be. Their own web site asks for comments whether they be good or bad.
At any rate it here people, A1 and , did not fulfill their contracted obligations. The leak was never fixed whether A1 or *** was in charge.
I was their customer and relied expertise to fix the problem. If they were not up to it they should not have taken on the job. They are using smoke and mirrors to cover up their shortcomings.
At any rate, the problem has now been fixed by a competent contractor.
The regrets by both sides should be they did not do the job contacted to do and I became involved with a group who did not live up to their hype.
As far as l am concerned the problem is over and is in my rearview mirror.
Respectfully submitted

My husband and I had a wonderful experience working with A-1Remodeling. We could not have asked for a better company to have remodeled our home. They followed through from start to finish. We highly recommend their team to anyone who is wanting a great outcome.

I contracted with this company in August of 18 to fix a roof leak. They contracted with another person to do the actual work. They were not easy to work with. Numerous phone calls were needed to get the job done. Finally got done in November. Now I still have a leak and can't get them to come back and fix it. Don't return phone calls or respond to tax messages. At present going to try the Revdex.com and see if they can help. Don't want to spend any more money.

Met all Veterans Administration requirements for VA HSA Grant and timelines. Handicapped Bathroom. True to itemized estimate. Knowledgeable, efficient crew is hardworking, clean and personable. Excellent customer service and communication. Highly recommend to other Disabled Veterans.
