A-1 Roofing Company of Louisville Reviews (1)
In September of 2011 I contracted A-1 Roofing to replace my existing roof. At the time we were experiencing leaking around the chimney at the roof line and therefore made it clear to Mr. [redacted] that special attention should be paid to that area to ensure there would be no further leaking and continued damage to the interior walls. He assured me that I didn't have to worry, that they would take all measures necessary to seal around the base. Two months later in Dec when the plasterers came to check the interior walls for moisture to repair water damage , it was still showing to be too wet to replaster, meaning there was still a substantial amount of water coming in. Knowing we had just had a completely new roof installed I was at a loss . I contacted [redacted] plastering and stucco, who sent a man to the roof and found that the flashing around the base of the chimney had not been caulked around the majority of the flashing, leaving the whole length of right side without caulk altogether, thereby allowing water to run down and in to the roof to the interior walls. We have photo's documenting the lack of caulk in this area. Not only was there a minute amount of caulk, the type they used was wrong. Not the kind that would expand and contract.
After seeing the evidence of their inferior work I was very reluctant to have A-1 return to redo their inferior work, so I took it upon myself to see that it got sealed, thinking this woud take care of the problem. I contacted [redacted] Restoration to come and caulk with the correct type. Two months later we are still having the plaster showing very damp. I finally contacted another roofing company, [redacted] roofing, who found that the step flashing was still the original and had serious gaps and cracks and that the outer edge of the chimney had rotten wood that had not been replaced by A-1 roofing. Instead of putting new wood down they put a strip of flashing and covered it with shingles( more documented photos). I finally contacted Mr. [redacted] regarding this issue and told him I had another roofer come by and explained to him what his findings were and what the proper remedy needed to be. He said he didn't think that was the problem, but he would come by to check it. This was one month ago on August 10th and I have never seen nor heard a word from him. Meanwhile, with all of these additional fixes I am out an additional $ 1,500.00. Against my better judgement I gave him the contract on the word of my neighbor who apparently has used him and refered him many times. I felt secure that they had apparently not had any reasons to NOT recommend him. And felt that since they knew him I would be getting great service. I was wrong, and in the future I will check with your organization before contracting with anyone. Had I done that in this instance I would have seen that he has a current complaint against him that he hasn't responded to. That would have obviously been a big red flag!
