your letter dated February 6, 2018 concerning the above captioned customer. I visited [redacted]'s residence on January 15, 2018 to analyze her problem. At that time there was standing water around the laundry drain and a sump pump in the basement that [redacted] uses to pump the water out when it becomes excessive. At no time during this visit did I guarantee that the water would be removed from the basement. Both [redacted] and myself knew that she has had a problem for a long time. Remember, she has a sump pump in the basement to pump out the water when it becomes excessive and she has done this procedure many times. After we snaked out the sewer line, it became apparent that there is either a trap or a broken sewer line just before the sidewalk area. Our purpose to snake out the sewer line was to either open the sewer or determine the next step to correct the problem. When I visited [redacted], I was very thorough in my explanation that if there was a problem, the area of the problem would determine the cost of the repair. An excavation in the front yard has different permit requirements than an excavation in the tree lawn area. [redacted] was adamant about the worse case scenario. I explained that in my experience 90% of the time the problem could be corrected by repairing the sewer at the location of the blockage and then snaking the remainder of the sewer line to the street. [redacted] continued to request the cost of the excavation if we had to go into the tree lawn area and then into the street. I explained that her responsibility was to maintain the sewer line up to the curb and then the [redacted] takes over for any problem in the street. She still insisted that I give her a price to repair the sewer in the street and that is where the $20,000.00 figure came from. I still maintain that she would most likely only need the excavation at the sidewalk area. I provided and enclosed my estimate to perform the repair allowing a credit of the $285.00 charge from January 23, 2018. [redacted] paid for the service with a credit card that was declined. I made several calls to [redacted] regarding the declined card and the only response I received was your complaint. I insist that [redacted] pay for the services that were rendered. She obtained valuable information for that service which will allow her to solicit bids from other contractors to perform the repair.
