A + Affordable Fence & Repair Reviews (3)

I wish I'd researched the various reviews of this business under its various names prior to deciding to try to do business with themThe common denominator, no matter what business name is used (A+ Fence Services, A+ Affordable Fence and Repair, All About Fences), is MrJoe D***, OwnerThis man is one of the most unprofessional, disrespectful persons I have ever come across as a consumer In my haste to get a the fence repaired at my recently purchased home, I neglected to do my usual research and ended up in an agreement with this person to repair fencingAfter quoting me a low ball price to get the contract and receiving more than half the deposit via a charge to my credit card, he pulled out of the contract, stating the fence was beyond repair (Days later, I was able to get it repaired as asked by a more reputable person)Joe D***'s $quote then became a $quote going from a quick repair to a full new fence jobNo problem, couldn't afford at the time, so simply asked him to refund the money charged to my card, since he actually DID NOTHING regarding the contractFor some reason, he stated he could send me a check instead of simply crediting/reversing the charge to my cardWhen I did not receive the check, I inquired about such credit and was met with a barrage of disrespectful text messagesFirst, he stated that he hadn't mailed the check because "it was the holidays"Not understanding what that had to do with putting a check in the mail for money he had not earned, I let him know that I found his tone and business practices questionableAfter falsely stating that I had agreed to an "after the holidays refund", he proceeded with the followingThis is just a sampling of the subsequent text messages Joe D [redacted] sent me in response to my request that my deposit be returned to me: "So why would you have it the day after Xmas? Does that not sound very dumb?" "I went and spent half of my day...Do you know how to read?" "You wanted something for nothing and I had to waste my time...You're an old crazy woman who doesn't even know what she texted or can't read." He went on and on, even threatening to "add me to the harassment charges with other crazy customers who want something for nothing" and to contact the police as "they are use to ppl like you and will have no problem helping me out again" Of course all of this, overreaction on his part was to distract from the fact that he had no intention of returning money for which he had not worked and had obviously spent on Christmas for his family, NOT on anything related to fencing for my house as he had contracted to doThen, tried to say he would only refund 25% of the money as that is what is in his "contract" which HE CHOSE NOT TO HONOR in any other way, as he chose not to provide the agreed upon serviceAmong other things, I will be contacting the State Attorney General to inform them of his business practicesI am confident they will handle it, as I have had to report slimy businesses before for even less than what D [redacted] owes me, and I have prevailed each timeWhether Mr D [redacted] is aware of it or not, the state of Texas does not take kindly to supposed places of business trying to take advantage of consumers Regardless of what the problem was, there is NEVER an acceptable reason for any company representative, especially the owner to speak/text to a customer in the manner this unprofessional, disrespectful person communicated to meIf I had done the research, I would have seen the numerous complaints already on file regarding him and would have known not to pay him any amount of moneyI strongly advise that no one do business with this fraudulent person

I wish I'd researched the various reviews of this business under its various names prior to deciding to try to do business with them. The common denominator, no matter what business name is used (A+ Fence Services, A+ Affordable Fence and Repair, All About Fences), is Mr. Joe D[redacted], Owner. This man is one of the most unprofessional, disrespectful persons I have ever come across as a consumer.
In my haste to get a the fence repaired at my recently purchased home, I neglected to do my usual research and ended up in an agreement with this person to repair fencing. After quoting me a low ball price to get the contract and receiving more than half the deposit via a charge to my credit card, he pulled out of the contract, stating the fence was beyond repair (Days later, I was able to get it repaired as asked by a more reputable person). Joe D[redacted]'s $625 quote then became a $6435 quote going from a quick repair to a full new fence job. No problem, couldn't afford at the time, so simply asked him to refund the money charged to my card, since he actually DID NOTHING regarding the contract. For some reason, he stated he could send me a check instead of simply crediting/reversing the charge to my card. When I did not receive the check, I inquired about such credit and was met with a barrage of disrespectful text messages. First, he stated that he hadn't mailed the check because "it was the holidays". Not understanding what that had to do with putting a check in the mail for money he had not earned, I let him know that I found his tone and business practices questionable. After falsely stating that I had agreed to an "after the holidays refund", he proceeded with the following. This is just a sampling of the subsequent text messages Joe D[redacted] sent me in response to my request that my deposit be returned to me:
"So why would you have it the day after Xmas? Does that not sound very dumb?"...

Of course all of this, overreaction on his part was to distract from the fact that he had no intention of returning money for which he had not worked and had obviously spent on Christmas for his family, NOT on anything related to fencing for my house as he had contracted to do. Among other things, I will be contacting the State Attorney General to inform them of his business practices. I am confident they will handle it, as I have had to report slimy businesses before for even less than what D[redacted] owes me, and I have prevailed each time. Whether Mr D[redacted] is aware of it or not,.
the state of Texas does not take kindly to supposed places of business trying to take advantage of consumers.
Regardless of what the problem was, there is NEVER an acceptable reason for any company representative, especially the owner to speak/text to a customer in the manner this unprofessional, disrespectful person communicated to me. If I had done the research, I would have seen the numerous complaints already on file regarding him and would have known not to pay him any amount of money. I strongly advise that no one do business with this fraudulent person.

A+ Affordable Fence and Repair’s web site states they “Will beat any price quote by 10%” (as of 23 May 2016). I received a written quote for $5798.40 for a fence replacement job, so I asked A+ Affordable Fence and Repair if they would do the job for $5218.56 per their advertised discount. They flatly refused and quoted $5700.00, which is $481.44 more. I asked them about their web page promise to beat competitors by 10%, and they stated: “idk what’s on that page it was made 4 yrs ago”. The age of a false advertisement doesn’t make it legitimate, does it? That false advertising lures customers to expect a non-existent discount. The company also stated to me, “Something on my website isn’t my word lol it’s a add [sic] on a screen.” Incorrect. Since it is on their website, it is by definition their word and represents a claim by the company – although sadly a false claim. The only reason I approached this company was because of their advertised discount. This placed them at a false competitive edge. The company also wrote: “Contracts are words sir … I figured you would be smart enough to figure that out”, and then wrote, “No reason to cry or complain over it.” When I stated, “I do not want the bid”, the company responded, “Lol sounds like you have some issues.” These are exact quotes. This company clearly advertised a 10% discount from any competitor’s quote, which it failed to honor. When questioned about it, they resorted to using personal insults, which was absolutely astonishing! Finally, it is puzzling they claimed no knowledge of what is on their web page but then actually referred to something from their website during our conversation. This company has potentially violated Texas Business and Commerce Code, violated customer trust, and violated basic professional and respectful business practice.
