A Affordable Lawn & Tree

I spoke with [redacted], either employee or owner, of A - Affordable Lawn on May 9, 2013 seeking lawn service. He and I discussed him servicing my lawn for $45.00 and performing a nourishment and weed-destroying application in the amount of $45.00. He assured me that A - Affordable Lawn did excellent work. It did seem strange to me that he asked if I would like to pay with a credit card over the phone at this point. I told him that I would not, I had no experience with his company and knew nothing about him or it. I told him that I had found them in the telephone directory. He told me that I needed to leave a check under the door mat in the amount of $97.00 (which included $7.00 tax). I thought this was too much tax and did some calling to various government offices to determine the sales tax rate. I did not receive the same answer from any of these agencies. Some said .8125 and some said 8.125. (I would like to know the correct answer to this question, also.) I called back and spoke with [redacted] again and he assured me that the tax was $7.00. I agreed to pay it and the appointment was made for May 10, 2013, with no specific time.

I have a regular-sized subdivision lot and expected it to be mowed with a power mower. The individuals that came used a rider mower on my front lawn and the sides, and a power mower on the back lawn. The lawn was not mowed evenly and there were leaves from the large tree in my front yard on the ground, and there was no edging done. I did not leave my check under the mat. I was definitely going to see the yard prior to paying. I was a little disturbed prior to reviewing the lawn because I had seen the rider mower and knew from a prior experience that it was too large for a good job to be done on my lawn. When one of the employees rang my door bell, I was very disappointed per the reasons stated above. I questioned him about the edging, the lack of raking or retrieving the leaves and other debris in the yard, and asked if the lawn had been treated. It had taken 20-25 minutes from their arrival to this individual ringing my doorbell for payment.

He said the edging had been done and that they had not treated the lawn,. I told him that was supposed to be done. He called [redacted] and I could not understand their conversation, but I spoke with [redacted] and told him that the treatment of the lawn had not been done and that I was not pleased with the work.. He told the employee to treat the lawn. He put something in the device that spreads fertilizer and took 5-10 minutes to spread this small amount of fertilizer over the front, sides, and back yards. This was very unsatisfactory to me, and when I asked him if he was going to water the fertilizer, he called [redacted] again. [redacted] told me they did not water the fertilizer, I could do that myself. He asked if I knew that the fertilizer cost $30.00. I told him, in fact, I did know how much fertilizer cost and in order to fertilize lawns, the fertilizer had to be watered. I told him that they had not cleaned up the yard or edged. He said they did not do that and neither did they water the fertilizer. I told him that I would never use his services again and I was not paying $97.00 for the service I had received. I gave the employee a check in the amount of $65.00. He called [redacted] again and told me he wanted to speak with me. I told him to have [redacted] call me on my telephone and I would be happy to speak with him. I went inside my house and a little later [redacted] called and said, "Lady if you want to get ugly, I can get ugly." I told him I had paid too much already and that the service I had received was horrible. I hung up. When I walked to the front of my house, I saw that the employees were still sitting in front of my house. After [redacted]'s statement, I didn't know what their intentions were. I went and asked them why they were still in front of my house. I took pictures of the yard and one of them got out and began to take pictures of my yard. He then went into my back, gated yard. I told him to get off my property. He finally left. I felt intimidated by [redacted]'s statermernt and the behavior of the employees.
