To Whom may concernThe original call was to service a gas stove that did not turn on according to home owner. In the first visit the assessment was the thermo couple did not provided enough energy to power the unit, a tech shown the owner the reading was below 200 millivolts that mean defective... thermo generator. Also the technician check chimney cap for obstruction like bird nest or debris. In the second visit the technician replace the thermo generator(very common problem in old gas stoves)Then the unit turn on but does not stay lit for more than a minute. The technician then proceed to open the fix glass attach to the stove and the gas stove run well identifies the problem was a venting issue. The tech then inform the homeowner to contact a chimney company to correct the problem of venting. After the chimney company check the chimney we went back to the house. Finally the forth visit The Technician look at the venting finding the liner run into a closet exposed horizontally and advise the owner the unit has venting configuration not approved by the manufactured and that the nature of the problem at this point we are responsible for the venting problem. The gas stove have been service with the true intention to get running but the problem is beyond a simple service call the stove has to properly venting to run.We understand the frustration of the owner we also invest 4 visits many of them free of charge.John

Please note that Mr [redacted] has new inserts valued at $7,in his possession as security for the installation of his unit One of the units he has was the unit he ordered but in enamel which is not what he wanted We understand the frustration of waiting for his unit We are having issues with the manufacturer of the unit The manufacturer changed the format of distributors and dealers during the process of his ordering and our receiving The delay is due to the fact that we are applying for an exception to get his unit for him We need approval form the manufacturer and the dealer In the interim he has units in his possession as collateral Thank you

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:? First off, what happened between me and my contractor prior to the hiring of A and J Fireplaces is irrelevant to the shoddy, unprofessional work performed by A and JSecond, the exterior installation of the chimney pipe is completely approved by the Manufacturer, that’s why the manufacturer sells exterior pipe mounting wall brackets and exterior roof mounting bracketsFurthermore, the installation manual illustrates exposed exterior pipe installation and proceduresWhich includes, that when installing the pipe exposed on the exterior that all pipe joints are required to be secured with sheet metal screws, which was not done by A and JThird, whether I decide enclose the chimney or not at a later date is also irrelevant to the shoddy, unprofessional work performed by A and JFourth, manufacturer installation instructions do not recommend or illustrate installing the wall fire stop on top of the siding, but instead require the fire stop be installed below the siding using the built in channel on the rear of the fire stop as a guide for minimum clearance and water deflection at the sheathing or insulationAnother problem that arose from the fire stop being installed like this was, regardless of the huge amounts of silicone used by A and J, the hole left behind the fire stop was leaking water into the wallI had to remove the siding, cover the hole in the wall with flashing, and install the siding and fire stop properly to fix the leakAnd yes, it does look more aesthetically pleasing now - it looks like a professional jobFifth, my local inspector required a third exterior mounting bracket (or one every 4’) per codeSixth, the use of zinc bolt nuts as spacers on the exterior mounting brackets is just completely unacceptableThey should have been rubber grommets (which I replaced them with) that would not rust or gouge my sidingSeventh, not cutting back the combustible sheeting back far enough to meet the minimum clearance of 2” around the chimney pipe was just a disgraceMinimum clearance of combustibles is rule # of fireplace and chimney installation, and this mistake should not have been made by someone with supposedly 20yrs experience.I agree that $1,was a fair price for a professional jobBut that’s not what I gotI got a work that was rushed and unprofessional.? It cost me time and money to go back a fix all the problems with the installationI think a $(50%) refund is in order. And requiring a 75% deposit the day before the job is to be performed is a huge red flag, which should have changed my mind about hiring A and J to begin with? Mr*** called us after his contractor quit the job. He asked if we could install his fireplace and vent pipe for him. We said we normally charge $for install but we could do it for $and he agreed. We installed his fireplace and his vent pipe. This install
was not a typical install due to the fact that there was no chase enclosure for the vent pipe and that the fireplace sits inside the house and the pipe angles through the framing and to the outside wall. I advised Mr*** and his wife that this install was not approved by the manufacturer with regard to leaving the pipe exposed outside without the protection of a chase enclosure. He accepted that statement. He also stated that he would enclose it at a later date. After the installation with the fire stop over the siding outside (Per manufacturer instructions) we installed the pipe with braces and went past the roofline with elbows and installed a roof brace per code. Later that week, Mr*** said section of pipe was 1/inch too close and would not pass inspection and he said since it was minor he would fix it. There is nothing wrong with this installation per code. There was no need to the siding except for aesthetic purposes. Since it was being enclosed later by Mr*** anyway it was acceptable the way it was. In conclusion, $1,for men for day is more that a fair price. Thank you.

Please be advised that *** *** purchased a set of fireplace doors with installation. Not an insert or fireplace. The wording is incorrect. There was also a charge to install an existing mantle that the customer owned. The invoice total was $2,including tax.
A deposit was made of $2,(the doors are special order - made for each customer) on January 3, leaving a balance of $655.25. There was no charge for chimney cleaning. The door was ordered immediately and was shipped weeks later which is what the customer clearly was told (as stated in complaint). In our contract it states that we are not responsible for manufacturers delays. There was not need for customer to remove his existing doors or assist in installing the mantle. We are capable of doing our own work. That is why we are hired. We do not caulk around doors that is an optional service and an extra charge. I am sure the customers were advised that the door would not be flush against the stones. It is common sense and you can see that in our showroom. They also know the overlap would be inches. In addition the door has a built in damper which is controlled by a small handle on the front, bottom of the door. It is not called a vent (our mistake - wrong words). It was built into the door by the manufacturer so it is there and therefore received by the customer. In response to the customer's desired settlement:1. There is not charge for the chimney cleaning on the invoice. So no refund due there as there was no charge.2. Your husband's help was not requested or needed so there is nothing to deduct there.3. Caulk around the door was not ordered or requested at time of purchase so there is no charge and no deduction from the invoice. My desired settlement is as follows:We are requesting our balance due of $as all services that the customer was invoiced for were performed and completed. Please pay your balance.Thank You

I am rejecting this response because:
I must not have common sense as stated by the company, because it was not stated to us we would have to pay extra for caulking I was told a cleaning by them would cost $and I would receive for free for my PATIENCE in dealing with this company for the THREE months I waited for the doors to come in AND the lack of their communication skills in regards to when my doors were coming in The cleaning never occurred because the person coming got the time wrong three times The damper that we received was suppose to be a vent I ordered a vent and that is what is on my receipt I did not receive a vent I received a damper A damaged damper that does not open and close with ease A damper the owner could not open or close either when he was here So...I am not paying $of my bill because I am owed a cleaning that I was promised for free that I didnt receive and now I have to pay for with another companyI am deducting a fee for caulking because I was not told that wasnt included in the installation fee and I want percent off for the damaged merchandise, which I stated in my initial statement, and it is not what I ordered That comes to $I will pay OR you can credit my card the $and you can send the damaged doors back to the vendor because the damper doesnt function the way it should NOR is it the vent I ordered and paid for

We are having issues with the manufacturer of the unit.  The manufacturer changed the format of distributors and dealers during the process of his ordering and our receiving.  The delay is due to the fact that we are applying for an exception to get his unit for him.  We need approval form the manufacturer and the dealer.  In the interim he has 2 units in his possession as collateral.  Thank you.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:As originally started, and as the per the current operational status of the stove in question, the contractor could not complete the repair as agreed upon. The "repair" succeded only in igniting the pilot one time.  The stove operational controls did not operate and the flame needed to be extinquished by shutting off the gas valve manually.  The repair was unsuccessful and there was no follow up service provided.  In fact there was one "no show" appointment set after which no further communication could be established. Again, the refunded cost of repairs minus the cost of the purchased stove component is being requested. It does not appear this contractor is competent with regards to performing the required repairs and should not have accepted the job. Please accept ownership of this lack of performance and at least offer the professional courtesy of a refund.  This is a matter of integrity and your response will demonstrate your commitment to client satisfaction and as a trustworthy local NJ business. Your courtesy is expected, Regards[redacted]

Again, you were informed the doors would take 8 weeks which is 2 months not 3 months.  You were NOT CHARGED for the chimney cleaning.  You can not deduct forsomething you were not charged for.  And AGAIN it is a hidden damper not a vent.  You received it.  It only slides left and right, and was not damaged when installed. There is no communication after the door is ordered until the door comes in and we call to schedule installation.  So it was not lack of communication.  Vent is the wrong word I said that in the last answer to this complaint.  You are making deductions from the balance that you feel are correct.  They are not.  You do not know the charge forcaulking a door during install so you are deducting whatever you feel like deducting.  You owe a balance of $655.25 for the contract that was signed and completed.  If you feel that is not what is due then I will accept your offer of $245.25 just to end this ridiculous back and forth. Please send a check.
