I called All Brand to come out and fix my wash machine. They promptly came out. The repair man was helpful and professionsl.. However, he stated that the machine may need either a rebuild or entirely new motor. He quoted a price for each. Upon inspection, he uncovered things clogged in the washer motor and cleaned out the things (coins, hair pins, etc). He then ran water through and finished up. Thus, he basically cleaned out junk/removed articles obstructing a piece that caused the machine to not drain. He was at my house for about 25-30 minutes. The trip charge was about $70. He charged me about $170 more because he told me this was a rebuild. My understanding of a rebuild is when something is taken apaprt and reconstructed (usually with new or differenct pieces). This did not happen as it was simply cleaned out. I feel that the company misprepresented themselves in this fashion. He never stated that the minimum charge would be $170 plus the trip charge. He stated a rebuild would be $170 and a new motor would be about $280. I believe he should have stated that "at the very least the charge would be $170." And that "cleaning out" the piece would constitute a "rebuild." they did send me $20 because I complained. However, no new parts were added to the machine -- so I was charged $170 (plus the trip charge) for 30 minutes of labor. Most attorneys do not get a rate of $340 per hour for their time, so I am not sure why this company feels it can charge these prices without a single piece of new equipment. What a shame.
