*** * *** Revdex.com #*** 02/08/ On December 21, *** *** Jr purchased a used engine from ABC Auto Parts. The engine was from a Jimmy/Blazer literThe engine was started and tested having compression on each cylinder of 175lbs and a hot oil
pressure of 40lbsThe engine sale price was $and Mr*** did have a one year (day) warrantyIn September of (months) Mr*** called to notify us that the engine was “locked up”He wanted another engine, needed it right away and was not going to pay any more moneyWe sent a tech to evaluate the claimThe engine was in the process of removal and our tech was unable to make any determination of good or failHowever the engine was able to be unbolted from the transmission without problems which would be inconsistent with a “locked up” claimThe tech also reported that Mr*** did not have professional installers complete the complicated engine installation for his vehicle. There could be a number of vehicle related issues which could have caused the claimed failure and we did advise Mr*** and his uncle of what to look forThe engine was the one we sold, it did not appear to be overheated, and Mr*** claimed it failed within the term of the warrantyWe could not determine if the engine had actually failed so we acted in favor of the customer and approved the claim for replacementWe replaced the engine for Mr*** as we agreed and he was told that the engine warranty was usedI personally started and inspected the replacement engine so there would be no issues of performanceJanuary of Mr*** called again and told us the replacement engine “cut off” after his cousin replaced some attached parts and then there were now oil leaks. I told him that the engine warranty had expired, but listened to the symptoms he describedI told him any leak is an installer issue and they need correctly replace all seals and gaskets to complete the installationI then offered some additional suggestions for him to consider to correctly diagnose the non-start problem. Especially since his cousin had replaced the crank sensor which will cause the engine not to startI suggested he take the car to a professional mechanic*** *** ABC AUTO PARTS
