Initial Business Response /* (1000, 12, 2015/06/19) */
The owner of the vehicle ([redacted]) called our shop for a quote to replace a clutch which he had already purchased for his [redacted]. Client was quoted 7 hours of labor at $89.00/Hour, plus any fluids and/or miscellaneous supplies...

required and $ 100 - $ 150 to have the fly wheel machined. Client was also informed that the quote was given over the phone and may or may not be subject to change as it was given without seeing the condition of the vehicle.
The owner of the vehicle had the vehicle towed into our shop on approximately[redacted] to have the clutch replaced and as well requested that the battery be replaced. Once the vehicle arrived to our shop it was very obvious that the vehicle had been sitting for a long period of time. There was a substantial amount of rust build up on the underside of the vehicle and the bolts/components that required to be removed in order to replace the clutch.
As soon as we had the vehicle on a hoist and could see the amount of rust build up we contacted [redacted] (prior to starting the repair) to explain our concerns with the possibility of requiring more labor time, parts and having the vehicle for an extended length of time. [redacted] replied that he needed the vehicle in a months time and to call him if the bill was going to exceed $1200.
We spent several days treating the underside of the vehicle and bolts with penetrating fluid as it would certainly help in the replacement cost and [redacted] was not concerned regarding time frame.
We started to remove the transmission towards the end of the following week. Once the transmission was removed the flywheel was sent out to a machine shop to have pressure machined. As well there was a crack in the side pan of the transmission which was also sent out to a machine shop to have welded. These were sent out on approximately [redacted].
We received the flywheel and transmission side pan back from the machine shop late in the following week, approximately [redacted]. We installed the new clutch, re-installed the transmission and filled all fluids as required on [redacted]. We then went to replace the new battery as requested and when connecting the battery cables there was excessive sparking from the terminals. We left a voicemail with [redacted] the evening of[redacted] asking him to call us regarding the excessive sparking as vehicle has [redacted] this may be the cause.
[redacted] called us back on Monday [redacted] to inform us the excessive sparking was caused by [redacted]. On Tuesday [redacted] we reconnected battery and attempted to start the vehicle. The vehicle would not turn over at all. We checked the power to the starter assembly (good) and found the starter drive was seized/stuck from vehicle sitting. We freed up the starter drive and vehicle then started with no issue. We test drove the vehicle and called the client to inform him the vehicle was done and ready for pick up. Client came in [redacted] on the evening of [redacted], paid the invoice and left without complaint regarding time frame and or cost of invoice.
Throughout the time the vehicle was at our shop we were in contact several times with the vehicle owner ([redacted]), [redacted] and [redacted] regarding cost and time frame of repair. We did not receive any complaint(s) from either [redacted], [redacted] and/or [redacted] throughout the time the vehicle was here or at the time of pickup.
We did not exceed any cost or quote that was not authorized and the vehicle was completed in authorized time frame as per [redacted].

Canadian Tire Customer Relations was contacted by the vehicle owners [redacted] ([redacted]) on [redacted] via email stating we had quoted $800.00 and now were going to charge her son over $1200. The Canadian Tire Customer Relations representative called our shop on [redacted] to enquire. The above notes were explained to the Customer Relations representative. Customer Relations representative attempted to call [redacted] back and left voice mail messages on [redacted] @ 3:07, [redacted] @ 4:11 and [redacted] @ 9:18. [redacted] then called Customer Relations representative back on [redacted] stating he did not return her calls or leave any voice mails. Representative confirmed the contact number on file and confirmed using the phone directory all three calls were placed to the correct number.
The first contact our store had with Client's [redacted] was on [redacted]. She called to ask status of vehicle and to express her concerns regarding the amount of the bill, the time frame taken and to say that nobody had authorized any additional cost and/or time. She was told that we had in fact been in contact with [redacted], [redacted] and [redacted] which she claimed was untrue. She was also told that we had received the flywheel and transmission side pan back from the machine shop and vehicle should be ready for pick up Saturday [redacted]. [redacted] then contacted our store on Monday [redacted] asking why the vehicle wasn't done and why nobody from our store had contacted [redacted]. She was then informed about the concern with the battery terminals sparking and that a voice mail had been left with [redacted] on Saturday [redacted], which again she claimed was untrue and that she would attempt to reach him. That was the final contact our store had with [redacted].
It is our position that we did not exceed any cost and or time frame obligations that were not authorized by the vehicle's owner, [redacted]. Furthermore, had [redacted] and the family members involved in the repair process communicated fully with [redacted], it certainly would have helped, if not rectified completely the misunderstandings that she has expressed.
