A Bathtub Refinishing Reviews (21)

If I could give zero starts I wouldThis company does business under several different business names
- a bathtub refinishing
- prestigebathtubrefinishing
They subcontract the work, in my case in SCI had a contractor named Pete Otis Horne do my workThe day after he did the work, I emailed the company about being unhappy about the qualityThey never replied and a mistake I made was to not follow up
I never received an actual warrantyI just received a copy of "do's and don't"Later I was told this doubles as the warrantyI followed the instruction in terms of cleaningWork on units were done in May I clean with non abrasive cleaning products, and follow directions on "do's and don't" paper received
Dec 'I started noticing peeling in Master Bathroom, my biggest mistake was not calling these people the SECOND I noticed the first peel (although after dealing with them on the phone now for weeks, I know they would have found every excuse not to honor warranty and blame me for peeling)months passed and the peeling started to be really bad, it clogged my showerI called the numbers given and it went to voicemailI don't remember if I left a messagePeeling became unbearable and I decided to use sandpaper to sand the areas where the peeling is, my daughter who showers with me kept putting the paint peel in her mouth
weeks ago, I google the company name and they now redirects to prestigebathtubrefinishing with a different phone numberI spoke to CrystalShe said to contact the contractor Pete OtisI called Pete Otis Horne, his number was disconnectedI received his wife's number and called herShe took a message and said that Pete would call me backAfter not hearing back from him for a week, I called againNo answer, went to voicemailI did not leave a message
After calling the company again, they now say my warranty is voided bc I sanded the unit, and I didn't call them to report the issue in a "timely" manner, even though none of these two are covered on the warranty as reasons to void the warrantyThe "warranty" as they call it covers "Do's and Don'ts" They talk about cleaning proceduresNo where on the "warranty" is any information about what to avoid doing when peeling startsIt also has no verbiage about timeline warranty covers
These people are scammersThey will take your money, they will do a substandard jobThey will never return your callsWhen you do talk to them, they will do anything in their power to find the fault with you
Here's exact verbiage on "warranty"
DO NOT use the surface for the specified number of days or hours indicated by the refinisher who completed the jobUsually hours
DO NOT lay soap, sponges, clothes bottles or any objects on the finish at any time, purchase a shower each instead( I did this)
DO NOT let a leaky faucet go unrepaired
DO NOT use abrasive cleanersNo S-O-S Pads, No CometNo soft scrub, no razorsNo ABRASIVES AT ALLTubs clean easy with spray cleaner and soft sponge
Here are some good cleaners to use:
Tile - Lysol Tiole Cleaner, Mr CleanNo Powders, No AbrasivesJust a sponge
Do NOT use bath mats with suctions underneathThey may pull the finish and trap moisture
DO NOT pick surface dust off with your fingerAny surface dust will likely dissipate in 3-weeks with cleaning and usageWaxing also helps
The best way to keep your tub clean is to wipe it down with a towel after each useYou do't have to wipe it dry
Maintain caulking around the tub
Wax tubs once every months with a urethane polishYou should polish your bathtub days after it has been refinished
More DO's and DON'Ts:
NEVER use bathtub or other glazed surface to clean brushes or any painting related chemicals or materialsKeep harsh chemicals away from tubDon't clean or store sharp or abrasive items on the surface
NEVER let workers stand in a reglazed tub with their shoes onHave them removed shoes& put a soft towel down
NEVER put or store any items in a tub or finished surface that might damage or cut surface
WAX your reglazed tub two weeks after it is doneAnd once every 1-months afterUse regular auto wad and do not over buffStart by first thoroughly cleaning the surface then gently wiping dryThen apply a light thin coat of wax with a damp cloth using light circular motionsWipe excess wax with a soft clean dry cotton towel
ALWAYS make sure there are no holes or gaps in any group or caulking in your showerThis can lead to wall damage and costly repair billWe can regroup your shower attending to missing grout before we start
FAILUIRE to follow the above instructions may will void warrantee
ALWAYS keep all cleaning materials away from childrenwear protective gloves and eye wear
ALWAYS make sure the room is well ventilated & read all manufacturers cautions and instructionsAlways use your common sense, be safe and smart

First off, let me tell you that this company subcontracts the work in different statesIn my case, I booked with Lynette via email at a company name of
"a bathtub refinishing"The contractor came out and did the work, I was not 100% satisfied with the work, and emailed Lynette the day after work was completedShe never replied to my email and I didn't follow upI remember when I spoke with her on the phone, I was told that I have a warranty for any peeling etcI never received an actual warrantyI just received a copy of "do's and don't"Later I was told this doubles as the warranty
Work on units were done in May I clean with non abrasive cleaning products, and follow directions on "do's and don't" paper received
Dec 'I started noticing peeling in MB, my biggest mistake was not calling these people the SECOND I noticed the first peelmonths passed and the peeling started to be really bad, it clogged my showerI called the numbers given and it went to voic

Booking this company was great - Lynette was informative, professional, nice But from then on, it has been terrible dealing with this company They were late and didn't call to say they'd be late I called to determine when they were coming, was told they would call me back - they didn't so I had to call again The owner and a helper did the tub which looked fine when it was wet When it dried...there were pock marks, drips, the gun had spit all over a couple areas, there were sharp points My tub looked better before it was refinished I called the office to complain about the job and was told I was "taking it too personally" and was treated very rudely The owner came back and made a worse mess of the tub He had to come back again for the 3rd time, and was extremely rude He made deep scratches that he tried to 1st tell me was the edge of the non-slip area (it's more than 1/4" outside the edge) then tried to tell it was a tape line I asked him to remove it, of course, he couldn't I decided it's not worth having them back again to "fix" the "fix" I truly don't think they are capable of doing good work I am very disappointed in the company, their lack of professionalism, and their shoddy workmanship Their website promises no overspray (there was and they didn't fix it so I had to repaint part of the wall), perfect masking (I had to repaint grout lines and scrape acrylic off newly installed tiles) Their website also states "We promise to treat you and your home with the courtesy and respect you deserveAlso, we pledge to do our best to turn you into another satisfied customer who will recommend us to their friends." They treated me with complete and utter disrespect The owner even left paint hand & finger prints on my front door

We got our bathtub refinished on 4/18/and the contract included a year warranty for: peeling, crazing and laborStandard warranty is yearsWe have reached out to the company on multiple occasions to address peeling of the refinish (as it should be covered by the warranty)Initially, they scheduled an appointment however a manager subsequently declined providing the service citing that the employee who performed the original work is no longer employed with the companyThe company is stating that the warranty is void because it was performed by a former employeeThe contract is very clear that this is a warranty provided by the companyIt is not our responsibility to assume the employment of their employees

What a joke..paid this company $and the another to the guy that did the work...it has been days since we used the shower, did not add the right amount of hardener..maybe you they should of worn a respiratorNot even a partial refund!

Hello Revdex.com representative,When the customer booked the work we emailed them a copy of the invoice. On that paperwork it states "Balance COD, payable to FRANCISCO J[redacted]. For service, call [redacted] or visit [redacted]". The customer called in to the main...

office and requested a repair. Our representative pointed out to them that they had called the wrong number and instructed them what to do.The customer mentioned that the tub was peeling down on the bottom of the tub around the drain. They also stated that they use a bathmat in the tub. At that point our representative pointed out that the invoice states under the Warranty section: "Use of bathmats, stickers or improper cleaning procedures voids warranty. All work warranties are determined and provided by and through [redacted] & [redacted] refinishing. Please call for service."The next day the same customer called in and this time spoke to myself. I explained at that time that we have not worked with Francisco for some time, but that her warranty was with him. I explained that I was the manager and I gave her my extension. I told her to try calling him and if she did not get a hold of anyone to give me a call back. That was the last I have heard from her. I have call recordings for proof if needed. Also I never told the customer that we were unwilling to assist them. It was my intent that if they could not reach their Francisco that we would be willing to perform repairs. But there would be a small fee involved. After all, they had also admitted to voiding the warranty.I see no reason however that this would constitute a full refund and full re-do of the job. We are still willing to perform the repairs to the peeling at a nominal charge. However if they hire another contractor to perform services to the tub then we have no legal obligation to honor any sort of previous warranty or refund.Thank You, Adam E.

I attached a copy of the invoice on the previous reply.  Not sure if you saw it read through it fully but it does indeed say who is responsible for the warranty.  Also the invoice does not state what is or is not covered.  Although it does say what can void the warranty.  I point you to the bottom legal section again."Warranty: Follow instructions on care and maintenance document that you receive upon completion. If care document is not provided then you may request one by email. Use of bathmats, stickers or improper cleaning procedures voids warranty. All work warranties are determined and provided by and through frank & jay's refinishing. Please call for service."Did you receive a care and maintenance document when you had your refinishing work performed?  If not, you were to request one from the office and we would have sent it by email.  The care and maintenance document not only provides information of how to properly care for your refinished surface but it also doubles as the warranty information.  I have provided a copy for your review.Thank You,Adam

The paperwork does state that the balance due is payable to Francisco J[redacted]; however, the contract agreement is with bathtub refinishing, the company. Just because the company requests that we pay an employee, third party, or presumed subcontractor directly does not void them of responsible for the warranty they provide in the contract. They could have requested we pay anyone for satisfaction of the outstanding balance; this is irrelevant to the contractual warranty at hand. Furthermore, there is absolutely no reference to the fact that Francisco J[redacted] is responsible for the warranty and that we have the responsibility to go locate former employees / third parties or subcontractors. The purpose of entering into an arrangement with the business is to ensure we avoid such a hassle. Additionally, for sake of clarity, we requested a repair under the terms of the warranty offered.  The response from the business regarding the description of the warranty language being voided as a result of a bathmat is incomplete and misleading. The warranty clearly states that "the use of a Sure-Step Permanent safety mat, which will give years of trouble free service, are approved for use with the new surface". We consulted the company prior to purchasing such a mat to ensure compliance. Thus, the business is misrepresenting the sequence of discussions and warranty coverage. Furthermore, there was absolutely no admittance that the warranty was void by our own interpretation.  We do not deny that the company was willing to provide service for a fee under a premise that it wasn't covered under warranty. Our point of dispute is that the company is claiming they are not responsible for the warranty under the contract for events that clearly qualify under the contract.

I had this company refinish my porcelain bath tub and was suppose to look and feel as a new tub. First of all they were to show up on Friday May 16 when they didn't arrive I called and they said the technician had trouble and would come out on Monday May 19th, and no one called me after I waited all morning for them. The tub got refinished and I checked it out the next morning and it was like coarse sand paper so again I called and they said that sometimes it happens and they would be out to fix it, when they came on May 29th he was very indignant and sanded and buffed it and it was still rough so he did some more and now it looked dull and had little bubbles showing and was still rough in some spots. I said I was not happy and that it did not look like a $500 job. He was not happy and said call the company. I did and they said they would get in touch with [redacted] the technician. I got a text saying the earliest he could come was June 10th. I needed it done sooner as the house is a rental and the people moving in could not wait and didn't want to deal with the disruption. I get another text from [redacted] saying " This is the soonest I have available. If your.tenants have any concerns it is under warranty. I think the tub looks great and definitely better than it was. If there is any way for me to get it done before the first of june I will contact you. Thank you [redacted]
Sent from my iPhone". I called the company back and asked to speak to a manager and was told he would call me back shortly but he never did so again I called and spoke to the same person and he asked what the problem was and I said I just talked to you 2 hours ago and again said someone would call me, no one called. I was furious and called my bank on May 31st and stopped the charge on credit card.
Today June 3rd I get two texts from the technician again "
Hello Samuel worthington this is francisco jimenez and I will need to get payment for the tub I did for you on may 19th. Im haveing problems with the. Bank for this and it seems you took matter s into your own hands instead of working with us. Please get back to me to fix this situation please thank you. [redacted]

Re:  Customer [redacted]

1.  The purpose of the photos was to confirm  what  I already knew,  that the wall was rotten. The worker  did not cause the damage.

2.  If the worker  knew  the wall was rotten, he would never have touched it.  You

could  not tell by looking at,  it as the  rotten part  was under the tile.  We have been  taking shower  door tracks off for many  years, but  the tile never breaks or falls off the wall unless the underlying wall itself is rotten. The tech  did not cause the damage to the wall just  by taking off the shower  door track.

3.  I explained thoroughly in our  30 minute conversation with [redacted] that we did

nothing wrong.   He knew our  position  in that conversation. The issue was resolved  in that conversation, as there  was nothing else I could  say.

4.  Of course we stand by our  work, as we have been in business for 32 years.

But we cannot warranty work on a wall that was rotten to begin with.

5.  The tech  did not call me on that  day.   I asked [redacted] who wrote up the order and  he said  the tech did not call him that  day either, (Refer back  to Note #2) Calling us would do no good, as the refinishing tech  is the expert. We could not help him, as we are the salespeople.

6.  We advertise tub  resurfacing, which  is basically painting, not drywall,  tile

and  grout repair.

7.  I did not ignore  him as it was all discussed in the 30 minute conversation.

8.  The tape  recording has  [redacted] telling [redacted] at the time of the sale  that the  tile is fine.  [redacted] asked that specifically.

9.  To ask  us to flx his rotten wall is not right.

We do not have the skill, tools or ability  to fu.:: tile, grout and  drywall,  even if someone offereq to pay us.   We are only refinishers.  If a house painter was hired to paint a house and  when  he started, the siding  pushed in because it was rotten, would the  painter be responsible to pay for new siding?  No, he would not.  It is unfortunate that the wall requires repair work, but  it is not our responsibility to pay for it, as we did not cause the damage.

Sincerely, [redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Although [redacted] does explain possibilities of issues, rot etc. I was instructed to send photos over, which I did of the damage. Post theses emails every time I called to follow up (dates are included in my initial complaint) [redacted] was conveniently out of the office or in a meeting every time that I called. Never once did I receive any response post sending these pictures to determine, what if any damage was not caused by their workers. The fact that I have been blatantly ignored from any attempt to resolve this issue leads me to believe that they want to put full fault on myself as a customer, and not standing behind their work. In regards to their claim that I stated the tiles were fine, I said they were fine  before anything was removed. Tiles were cracked, painted over and now highlight where they were split. These tiles had no damage whatsoever prior to this door frame removal. I could even hear the assistant calling his boss telling him he was scared to continue the removal because he thought he was going to crack the tile. Lo and behold the tiles was cracked, and I was reassured that they would be painted over to look fine. I never claimed that they would be a tile person, or any job title outside of the service that they advertise to provide. Excuses or not, the end result was not what was advertised, promised to me, or delivered. The fact that they have ignored me on more than four attempts to contact the company, and now claim that they have tape of me stating that everything is fine I find to be hard to believe. Had they taken the time to respond to my emails, calls, or have someone follow up at no charge to me to physically examine the faults that I have pointed out, then I would have been more than happy to have this issue resolved. The fact that they are aware that I have moved out of state, and are giving me the impression that they can ignore this and it will go away I find to be disheartening. I am in no way satisfied with this response.

Re:  Customer [redacted]...

[redacted]

I had a 30 minute conversation with [redacted] on Nov. 27th,  when  I explained the following to him:

Problem  # l. Loose Grout In the notes  section  of the contract it states, "Customer must repair  loose tile and  grout  before the technician arrives." Ou.r conversations with customers are recorded.  We listened to this sale and  the salesman did specifically  ask  if the tile was OK and  [redacted] said, "Yes".  We are just refinishers, not tile people.  If you paint  over bad tile and  grout,  it will look like painted bad  tile and  grout.

Problem  #2 Loose TR- When  the tech  removed  the aluminum frame from the shower  doors,  some of the tile was dislodged  because the drywall behind  it was

rotten. The tech did the best  he could  to put  it back,  but  the underlying wall was rotten. To look good, a professional tile man  would have to replace  the drywall and  tile.

Problem  #3 Caulk  Une- Recaulking cannot be done  until  the new tub  surface dries,  as it is wet when  the  tech leaves the job.  We offer coming  back another day to redo the caulk for $75,  but  most customers do it themselves or have someone else do it.

We believe the customer misunderstands the scope of refinishing work.   He received full value of the work he purchased.

Sincerely, [redacted]

After researching several bathtub refinishing companies in the Phoenix-metro area, I decided to hire Bathtub Refinishing of Phoenix to refinish 1 bathtub and 1 shower, and the surrounding tile. I had recently purchased an older home which the previous owners tried to refinish the bathtub/shower/tile on their own. The result was lackluster, prompting me to want to spend money on professional help. I spoke with David who was pleasant in the beginning. Throughout our 2 phone conversations he reassured me that their workers have years of experience and use only the highest quality material. Initially I was only going to have my guest bathtub and tile refinished - but when I mentioned that I had a full tile shower that also needed to be refinished he offered me a discount to get both done, explaining that both would be done in the same day. If only that was the case. On the day of my scheduled work, Luis called me to tell me that the worker would be there within the hour. They did not come for another 3 hours. One man showed up to do both bathrooms - not the 2 that David had told me. The work that I had discussed over the phone with David was not in the work order - though it is the sole reason I called in the first place: to get the existing paint stripped from the surface, smoothing the surfaces, and painting the surfaces. Adding the additional work was an additional charge. The workers came back the following day - 2 workers this time - to finish the job that was only supposed to take 1 day. After talking to one of the workers, he told me that he had been refinishing bathrooms for less than a year, and that he doesn't even work for Bathtub Refinishers of Phoenix - HE WAS OUTSOURCED FROM ANOTHER REFINISHING COMPANY. I tried calling Bathtub Refinishers of Phoenix for clarification (remember all the experience David talked about?!) but NO ONE wanted to direct me to the right person. I have tried to contact someone several times since my date, but I never get my call returned.

The thing that really threw me over the edge was the quality of work, or lack there of. I was hesitant to get my bathtub/shower refinished because of the shape they were in and because of the cost. It is not cheap. I expressed my concerns to Dave and he, like a salesman, told me that the work they did was top-notch. He said I would be happy with the high-quality results, and that it would look almost new. Well I got ripped off. If my end result is what they consider high quality, their standards are poor. The tile in the shower was never stripped of its existing paint, so basically these worker spray painted their "high quality" product over a layer of peeling, chipped paint.

The people Bathtub Refinishing of Phoenix were great to work with until they got my money and a blind cat would have done a better job that these so called 'experienced' workers did.

I hired Whirlbathe to refinish my tub in the master bath in late 2012, and am completely satisfied with the workmanship, and finished job. The tub looks like new, and the old tub was in very bad condition from the previous owners. I had the sliding glass doors removed, because of the corrosion of the door, where it met the tub, and the technician made the seam appear "invisible"! I am totally satisfied with the job, and would recommend Whirlbathe to any and all that need a bath refinished.

My experience with this company was extremely great. The work was done in a timely fashion, their representative was very polite and the results was excellent. Now six months later the bathtub still looks good and the finish is holding up great.

I had the pleasure of using Whirlbathe in January of 2013 to re-finish a tub/shower unit in my home. The enclosure had yellowed over the years and our attempt to restore it left it with unsightly cracks and peeling paint. We were embrassed to have our guests use this bathroom. After researching the cost to have the unit removed and tille installed (we really did not want to give-up the tub) I contacted Whirlbathe. We were very pleased with the price given, the appointment was set, the technician arrived on time and completed the job within the time limits we were given. We followed the drying instructions given and have had no problems with this refinishing. We are very pleased with the job and this company. I would recommend to friends.

Review: My wife & I had decided to move to Portland,OR from Phoenix,AZ and in the process have put our townhome in Phoenix for sale. After comments from the initial viewers and our realtor mentioning the look of our bathroom we decided to have our bathtub refinished. We researched, price compared, and after being assured by their sales associates that there would be no complications and the finished product would look just as good as the pictures on their website we booked them to refinish our upstairs shower/bathtub and surrounding tiles, as well as removing a shower door frame (which I was assured any holes made from removal would be sealed and painted over so that it would look like it never existed) for $500. I paid a security deposit of $150 on my debit card and the remaining $350 to be paid to [redacted] via certified check upon completion of the job, scheduled for 10/7/13. Once Francisco arrived, and the frame was already removed he mentioned that it might not come out as perfect as they had mentioned to me and he wished that they would schedule preinspections before sending him out. He assured me that he would do the best he could and painted and sealed the area. After the 24 hour cure the paper and tape that was left to cover windows, etc was removed. There is an obvious crack in a tile that was broken during removal of the door frame that is now not level with the rest of the tile, and the cracks are not sealed. Caulking has sunken in areas and now with the brighter paint it highlights those flaws. The paint had seeped through some of the paper and painted my fan vents, and seeped into the vent. The paint is unevenly coated and quite frankly looks worse than before. I now recieve negative comments from viewrs, my realtor and anyone who has seen the "before" as well. I am now dealing with this from out of state, where my calls are being ignored by the owner [redacted] that I spoke with. Pics of damages have been sent, and multiple phone calls and messages have been left. None have been returnedDesired Settlement: This job is not worthy of the full price of $500 that I paid for it.Upon my initial phone call with [redacted], the owner, he requested that I send someone over to my townhome to take pictures for him to see and assess the work. I have sent multiple pictures for him to review as of 11/22/13. After getting no response tried calling on 11/25/13 to follow up. I have also called and been ignored on 11/27/13; 12/2/13; and 12/3/13. I feel like they're ignoring this since they've already been paid.

Hired Whirlbathe to refinish a bathtub in our house. The technician showed up an hour late and rushed the job. My wife had to stop him as he was leaving and advise him that the refinishing job was bubbling. He came back in, shot a second coat on the tub and hurried out. The tub still has dimples in the finish and the technician left with the area a mess and no instructions on when to remove the paper he put down for overspray. The finish doesn't even cover the entire tub! In my opinion they rushed our job to get back on schedule. A call to the company said they would resolve the issue and get back with us. That was the last time we heard from them. Several calls have gone unreturned so I stopped payment on everything we had paid them. I would never use or recommend this company to anyone, not even someone I didn't like!

I am an Realtor/Investor and have worked with this company several times. They are professional, and are great to work with. They have done a great job on all my properties and the one time I did have an issue that was my fault, they came back and fixed it right away. I will continue to do business with them and have recommended them to others.
