The business has issued a refund to my satisfaction

Review: I called AC Automotive regarding the repair of a water pump for a 2001 4.0L Jeep Cherokee on March 20, 2013. They gave me a quote of around $280 for the repair. On Friday March 22nd I dropped off the vehicle at 8AM. At 9:06AM I received a call from the service manager, [redacted], regarding the repair. He claimed that vehicle had gotten very hot and that there was melted metal on the radiator and that this necessitated a total of $900 in repairs. He initially quoted me a higher price but then said he was giving me a discount. This puzzled me since I had never done business with the shop before. I received another call at 5:18PM from Mr. [redacted] and he stated that the repairs were complete. When I arrived at the shop I asked what was wrong with the radiator. He left the service counter went out into the shop area and grabbed a rubber gasket. He explained that there was a gasket like this on the sides of the radiator where the aluminum tubing section attached to the plastic end caps. This response puzzled me but I trusted that Mr. [redacted] was telling me the truth. After thinking about this Friday night, I recalled that Mr. [redacted] original explanation was that of melted metal on the radiator. I decided that I should examine the radiator first hand to determine the exact cause of failure. I visited the shop the next day, Saturday, around 11am and asked to see the failed radiator. Mr. [redacted] brought out the two radiator end caps. I was shocked that they had already cut it up for scrap. Upon examination I could see no melted metal. I asked Mr. [redacted] about this and he referenced the rubber gasket he had showed me the day before as the problem. He also said that the reason they chopped the radiator up for scrap was because they would be fined if they just threw it in the garbage. I left the shop and decided to examine the work that was done further. I noticed that all the screws for the grill were loose and that the serpentine belt adjustment bolt was finger loose. This immediately called into question the quality of workmanship. On Monday morning I confronted Mr. [redacted] with the facts of the case and told him that I didn't believe the radiator was faulty. He brought out the old radiator pieces. He pointed to some discoloration on the side piece and said that's where it was leaking. Upon further examination the discoloration was simply oil that had collected from an oil leak. I could find no sign of leakage on the radiator. I key fact of the case is this: Mr. [redacted] stated that they had pressurized the system and found that the radiator was leaking. Mr. [redacted] called me within in hour after I dropped off the vehicle. In order to pressurize the system the water pump would need to be replaced. There was no time to do that in between the time I dropped off the vehicle and when he called with the diagnosis. It is my belief that the radiator was in working condition when I dropped off the vehicle. Because Mr. [redacted] wouldn't actually show me the radiator and the spurious explanations afterwards is proof of this fact. I would like to have the facts of this case submitted to a third party expert to determine if my assumptions are correct. I would also like to have the invoice examined to determine if the listed prices are fair and reasonable.

Desired Settlement: A refund for the cost of the radiator replacement.

[redacted] called asking for a phone quote on a water pump, at that time I did not know who he was. When he brought the vehicle to our shop we gave him a full cooling system inspection at no charge. Once the vehicle was brought in it was found that the vehicle got hot as well as having a water pump leak. One of the tests that we do is a preasure check of the cooling system and then a visual inspection. The tests were done and the results were that the water pump was leaking the radiator hoses were brittle, the radiator tanks were leaking and it was recommended that the thermostat be replaced due to how hot it got. [redacted] was called and was told of the leaks and the condition of the hoses. I told him that the seal rings that attach the side tanks to the metal core got so hot that they either melted or cracked causing the radiator to leak and it was not something that could be repaired. [redacted] gave the go ahead to do the repair. [redacted] came in and again I explained to him that the cooling system got very hot I then showed him what the seal between the tank and core looked like. [redacted] then paid for the repair. The next day [redacted] came into the shop and said he didn't think the radiator needed to be replaced. I went out to the junk and pulled [redacted]'s tanks from the trash, showed him gave them to him. [redacted] came back again saying we had not replaced his T/stat. I walked out and showed to him where the new T Stat & gasket was replaced. Monday [redacted] came in again I at that time gave him his T/Stat that I pulled out of the trash which was broken. If [redacted] requested all his parts after the job we would have had them for him. [redacted] came in the next day and we cleaned up that night and disposed of them. I did the repairs that [redacted] OKed. I am very sorry that he feels the way he does. If I had not explained his complete problem [redacted] would have been back complaining of a coolant loss and overheating.

Review: I brought the car in to get fixed.

They said manifold and charged me 800$.

told me to bring it in in two weeks to check.

The engine blew a rod a week later.

They picked it up and told me they were going to fix it.

Two months later they keep telling me they can't find an engine. I tell them they need get me a rental car and they did, but only paid about half the payments skirting payments from [redacted]. Now the business has gone under for IRS issues and they failed to fix the car, and now have my car at another repair shop where they are charging me to fix the problem they created.Desired Settlement: I just want my car fixed and for them to honor their guarantee. I already paid to have it fixed and they made the problem worst. Now I'm handling a much larger bill that wouldn't have been if they had just fixed it the first time.
