I did an Internet search for an Appliance repairman in my area, ([redacted]) and submitted for a quote from several places. Unfortunately I don't know from which lead I got the call from, but this man going by "Allen Griffin" of "Home Pros" said he could come out the very next morning. He looked at my refrigerator and did some tests and said that I needed a new compressor and that he would need $150 up front to order it, then he would be back in two days to install it. He never showed up at the appt. time two days later so I called him and he gave me an excuse that the 'overnight' shipment got delayed. Called back a couple days later when he missed the next appt. and he gave me an excuse that one of his four kids missed the bus for school, but that he'd call me back to let me know what time to expect him. Since then he has not called me, and I have called the number he gave me several times every day and have left several messages but he has vanished! This was 3 weeks ago! I did a search on the number he gave me and had originally called me from, which is ###-###-####. My results stated that the phone was owned by a [redacted]" Upon more research I unfortunately have found that he has gone by many personal names and company names and has run the exact same con on multiple people! And he has yet to be caught or dealt with.
Last summer, 2012, we hired this company to replace two attic vents, which we had already purchased, and to give us an estimate for putting in a new window. After a while, they finally came and repaired the vents, and that same day, September 12, 2012, wrote up a proposal for the window repair. They combined the cost of the vent repair on that same proposal. We agreed to the proposal, and were told that we needed to pay the cost of the labor that day and half of the window repair cost, which we did. The vent repair was $165.00 and the window was $844.00, of which we paid $422.00 as a down payment along with the $165.00 for a total of $587.00. M[redacted]s and a female assistant took our check and cashed it the following day. After many, many calls, complaints and emails and months gone by, [redacted] never came to put the window in stating that the window never came with a larger order he had made and that his window distributor was giving him problems. We unfortunately did not ask if he was even licensed to work in VA. We really wanted that new window before the winter set in, so we asked if we could just have our money back of $422.00. On January 7th, 2013, we received an email from the company thanking us for our patience and apologizing, stating that they had taken care of sending us a full refund, and that we should receive it within the next 7 days. Whoever wrote us said that John was going to call us personally but he was out of the office for the next few days. There was no person's name on the email. It is now March 1, 2013 and we still have not seen the check. That is all we want, to get our money refunded for service and product not provided. $422.00.
