This is from a UNHAPPY customer! I called A Cut Above to have a large tree planted in our backyard to help screen the house behind usAfter meeting with Jose, he seemed very knowledgeable and suggested we get a 95gal Burr OakWe agreed upon a price and had some minor work involvedHe showed up as promised with our new treeTook a picture and sent to me while I was at workEverything went fine, he moved and replanted a small tree we had purchased at Lowes and dressed up a nice flower bed for usThe tree looked great for about a week or twoWe began noticing that the side of the tree facing towards us was wiltingI called Jose, and he showed up and told me that maybe it was over wateredAfter digging up some mulch he then said it might be over wateredHe says he added some fertilizer and to let it recover from the move and plantingA month goes by and its worse! I again notify Jose and he comes out and says it may be in shock and to wait it out till the springWe purchased the tree in May 'and again listened to what he had to sayWell here we are May '15, the next springThe half of the tree is dead! During this timeframe I asked about a warrantyHe said sorry NO WARRANTY on the treeThe $tree I got at Lowes came with a year no questions asked warranty, but it's still aliveHe offered to plant a new tree with no labor chargeSorry, but to not be able to back the "products" you sell and planted for us is just so wrongVery UNHAPPY CUSTOMER

Initially, *** was exceptionally polite, consistently referring to us by last names and expressing enthusiasm about a project which would expand his skill set(In retrospect, it was too much and should have been a red flag)He and team arrived with matching T-shirts and seemed dedicated to the work*** mentioned he previously worked as a shoe salesman who was very successful in getting a company startedWe could see how he'd be good at starting a company
But, then, things started to go downhillSeveral considerable mistakes were made and ***'s attitude shiftedHe started referring to us by our first names (at least in person - he was careful about what he wrote in emails, glossing over his mistakes)He became defensive and on several occasions was downright rude
He realized he was in over his head and decided to end the project when it was near completionHowever, in addition to leaving a couple of items undone - - he did not fix the things he had brokenClearly, he had not checked his workEven a novice could see things were not operating adequately at allAnd, yet, he charged us for the bulk of the project which was around $12,
There was no formal walk-through at the end of his work
In trying to resolve the remaining issues (at least the major things he left broken), we tried to contact *** via phone then email on several occasions, but he stopped replying
In summary, I would be careful about this business - particularly with regards to closing the projectHe states he will only charge 1/of the project upfront (and the other 1/at completion) - - but in our experience, this is not what he did
Additionally, for more complex projects, someone with more experience may prove a better alternativeCompared with ***'s years of experience, we've spoken with other landscapers in the community who have 20+ years, who've informed us about various things they would have done differently
