We were having problems with dust in our home and birds getting into our dryer vent, so we called Ductz of Alexandria to come clean both and put up a bird guard. They came out March 5, 2013, did both, and were great about it. Within a week, we started seeing our dust problem had grown worse, and within a month (April 15), we found the bird guard had popped off, leaving the vent wide open. We called, hoping to resolve our issue and have Ductz stand behind their service and product, and we were told that "the person who was at the home was offered a different kind of bird guard" (the kind described was the kind we actually DID want- it screws into the side of the house and is sturdier), "but he said he didn't want holes put into the siding." This conversation never took place, as that's the kind we did in fact want. When we told them on the phone what kind we wanted, they told us they had a different one that "fit over the vent" and would work well, which is what they brought out and installed. They also told us that when they cleaned our vents, what we really needed was to have our fan cleaned, but since they don't like to offer service after service (to avoid looking like they're trying to "squeeze" unnecessary services), they never offered this option. We asked them to come back out and fix the problem since what they installed fell apart (we decided to disregard the dust issue, because as soon as the bird guard fell off, we immediately had birds in our dryer vent again- they even laid eggs in it), and after a month of calling and being passed back and forth between the two owners, they told us it would be an additional charge of $150 to travel down to our home and install a new bird guard- they offered to pay for the new guard. We have already paid for them to travel down here and install a bird guard- because the one they installed was defective, we wanted them to replace it with the kind we asked to have. After receiving an email that they'd be in the area, we even offered to pay them for the new bird guard and the $75 installation fee, but were told it would still be $150, because they "weren't doing it for just $75."
