Review: On October 22, 2013 we entered into a contract with [redacted] of A+ Decks to build a 16' x 27' deck. At that time we gave [redacted] a deposit check for $6875.00, which was half of the total. [redacted] daughter was present to witness this transaction) [redacted] assured us that he was completing a job over the next few days but would obtain the necessary permits the following week. On November 6, 2013 we still had not heard from [redacted] so we sent a text message. He called and said he was delayed on his current job but would be going for permits in the next few days. On November 10 we contacted [redacted] with some information on plot plans, again via text message. On November 15 [redacted] texted that he would again be a few more days completing his current job but would go to file permits the following Monday and would call on Tuesday with an update. On November 18 we texted [redacted] noting that we expected to hear from him that evening after he went for permits. After no contact, we again sent a text message on November 21, 2013 that we would be cancelling our contract. He acknowledged this via a text on the same day and promised to bring a cancellation document we would need to sign in order to receive our full deposit. By Novemer 29 we still had not heard from him and sent another text inquiring about our deposit but received no response. On the evening of December 18 we reached [redacted] by phone. He was irate that we cancelled our contract claiming we had totally messed up his business by doing so. He again assured us we would get our money back but when it was most convenient for him. After several unanswered calls to [redacted], we contacted an attorney who suggested we file a complaint with the Department of Justice. The attorney also started the legal process by sending [redacted] a letter.Desired Settlement: Receive our full deposit and reimbursement for any legal fees incurred.
