I was at the dealership for an oil change I was called after the multipoint inspection was performed with my oil change and notified I need new rear brakes along with some other recommended services I told the serviceman on the phone I did not have the money at the time to perform all the recommendations For the past years I have put trust into the dealership to believe what they are recommending me I was then told over the phone that the brakes where a Saftey issue and if I wanted to get that problem taken care of it would only be around 200$ instead of 500$ I told the service tech on the phone to go ahead and do the breaks because I was told it was a "Safety" issue I picked my car up at the end of the day, paid my bill and came home I started to look more closely at my bill and multi point inspection and discovered that my front brakes where rated "green" at a 6mm thickness and my rear brakes where rated in the "red" at a 4-5mm thinckness This didn't seem to make sense to me so I looked a little further Looking at my "vehicle report card" given to me by the dealership it states brakes 5mm and over are rated in the green category and ok The yellow category according to the report card is for a 3-5mm thickness and states "may require future attention"The red category is 3mm and less wich requires immediate attention So I question why was I told my rear break pads with a thickness of 4-5mm where deemed unsafe and needed replaced when the paper I was given from the dealership clearly states I should have been classified into the top half of the yellow category which may require future attention So why was I classified into the red?If green is 5mm and above and yellow is 3-5mm and my pads where rated at 4-5mm it seems this repair should have not been recomended as a Saftey issue with my car by the standards set I went back into the dealership and question the serviceman I dealt with the next day At the counter there is an example of a brake pad with the same green/yellow/red ratings showing the thicknesses I questioned why does this say future attention and I was told it the pass needed replaced now for a Saftey issue I was given a round about answer with no real reason I question why was I not told this repair could wait until the future and not "scared" into thinking I needed new brakes It clearly was not a Saftey issue set by the standards on the paperwork and the example brake pad at the counter This was very disappointing and I wish they would have been more honest with me on the phone about the services needed I would have had no problem bringing the car back in the future when the brakes actually needed repaired had I been given an honest recommendation
