Review: I paid [redacted] $44,000 for work to repair my home which was devastated by Hurricane Sandy. His work was incomplete and terribly shoddy. I repeatedly asked him to fix all of the many outstanding issues but he has refused unless I give him more money. In fact, now that we have moved back home, having been displaced for over six months, I am discovering more and more problems with the work that he did and now I wouldn't even want him back here to work. I have had to hire new people to fix, repair, complete, etc. everything that was done by [redacted] and his workers has to be redone, fixed, repaired, and completed, and this work continues currently. The new people are always bringing things to my attention that were done improperly or omitted. The problems include poor appliance installations requiring the assistance of a new installer, painting entire home has to be redone, insulation missing from every window and door, electrical wiring was buried in walls and other wires were pinched or cut, molding has to be removed and replaced and every exterior window and door, incorrect door installations and damage to doors I purchased, broken and scratched porcelain antiles, tiles coming off walls, exterior window and door capping has to all be redone, owed additional tile work, door, various other installations. This man has left my family with a terrible mess to contend with and we are unable to go on with our lives. If the storm had not been enough to cause us great harm, now this unethical man has victimized us all over again. I filed a complaint with the [redacted], but because the man and his company turned out to be unlicensed (he had led me to believe that no license was necessary to do home improvements, but I later learned that is comletely untrue), they cannot help me. However, they are fining him for every day he worked illegally in my home. He claimed I was the only residential home he did work in, however, that is a lie as I know of another close by to m.Desired Settlement: I think that I should be reimbursed for all of the expenses I have been incurring and continue to incur from paying others for time and materials, in the total approximate amount of $20,000 - $25,000, the exact total will not be known for several more weeks, as the work gets completed.

Response:

At this time, I have been contacted directly by A & G Construction regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[redacted] called me a couple of weeks ago and wanted to know what I thought I was doing by contacting your agency. He claimed that he had tried to come to finish the work and to make repairs, acknowledging that there were many problems with his work to date, but his claim of trying to reach me is completely false. In fact, he said he called me while he knew I was in Europe (which I know he did not), and which would be further proof of how empty such an offer would have even been. I explained that I could not have him back to do more damage and that I was seeking a refund of some of the money he was overpaid. He said that he thought I just did not want to pay him even more money, but the truth is that he was paid far more than he deserved for the work that was done. To date, I have spent almost $15,000 to fix, repair and complete work that should hav e been done by [redacted], and such work is still in progress. I continue to live in a construction site with my family and the terrible inconvenience that [redacted] has caused us remains unresolved.

Sincerely,
