A Great White Moving & Delivery Reviews (2)

Review: On March 27th, 2013 Great White Moving provided moving services for me. In the process of doing so they ripped/damaged the arm of my couch. I explained to the gentleman in charge ([redacted]) that the couch was made of a special kind of fabric and it would not be as simple as running to the nearest upholstery store to get a matching sample, the couch was manufactured by [redacted] and the fabric was a proprietary product called "Bella Suede." He insisted that he wanted to try and track down the fabric first. I expressed concerns immediately as I had two matching couches and even if he was able to find the correct material, they may not match due to fading, etc. He stated that if he was unable to properly repair them, he would purchase both the couches from me. I had planned on selling them in the near future anyways, so I agreed. The couches were purchased for $2,400 each ($4,800 total), they are in great condition but due to the market for used couches I informed him that I would be willing to sell both for $1,500. He signed a contract stating that if he was unable to repair the couch's that he would purchase the couch from me (I can provide the contract if necessary).

It has been 75 days since the incident and we are no closer to a resolution. I have records of text message conversations with both [redacted] and the owner of the company where they both admit they are unable to track down the fabric for repairs. In the latest text messages the owner of the company tells me he can "have nice arm covers made" and "if that option does not please you than lets go to court and let the judge decide."

I have been patient and understanding, I realize accidents happen and that's why I was willing to work with them. But based on recent conversations it has gotten to a point where I need help in making things right.Desired Settlement: I would like Great White Moving to honor their signed contract and purchase my couches for $1,500.

Response:

In response to Mr. [redacted] complaint about the 2 small tears on one of his armrests on one of his sofas. I tried my very best to find the material to repair the armrest. This material is no longer available and is discontinued, therefore the only way that I could think of to better the situation was to have armrest covers made for both couches. Mr. [redacted] did not like this idea and wanted me to purchase the sofas for $1500.00. Only one sofa is damaged. Even though they are a set, I am not responsible for the undamaged sofa. The contract was signed "repair upholstery or negotiate purchase price. After talking to [redacted] about the matter, he feels both sofas are worth about $800.00. Half of that is $400.00. There is a $100.00 deductible which is also on the contract. I am willing to settle this matter for $300.00.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. In regards to the response from Great White Moving, I do not feel the settlement offer of $300 in exchange for the damaged couches is sufficient. The couches are a set; from the very beginning and in all discussion with [redacted] they were treated that way. Based on my market research I feel that the current value of both couches is $1,500, however I would be willing to settle for less simply to resolve the situation.Option #1 - $800 cash total as purchase price for both couchesOption #2 - $300 cash total as payment for damage. All I'm looking for is what's fair, I didn't ask for my couch to be damaged and its been a huge headache for us.Regards,[redacted]

Response:

With reguards to [redacted]"s complaint about the couch... I will offer option #2 with my deep regrets that this happened and that there is no material available to repair the couch. I will also add another $100.00 for [redacted]"s trouble in this matter. $400.00 for a total. Let me know your response soon. Thanks,[redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Regards,

The movers were very nice and professional, my complaint is they super rushed the job and packed everything in as tight and as much stuff as they could cram in. After they left almost everything they moved was damaged in some way. Examples range from scratches in the wood to full blown broken furniture!
