Firs and foremost the New York State Deptof Consumer Affairs does not require masonry contractors to warranty concrete workA & J Masonry Corp clearly states this on the front of our contract and # on the back of the contract
Our contract was brought to and approved by the Suffolk County Deptof Consumer Affairs that being said A & J Masonry Corpmotto is honesty integrity and quality workmanship these words are no printed on a card to make us look good , we live by this words our reputation is everything to us We do not advertise for workAll of our work comes from referrals and recommendations , we go beyond what the laws and codes require In this case code for concrete work is 3000PSI or 3500PSI concrete we pore 4000PSI .The stoop is on x deep concrete footing with 5/rebar drilled into the foundation to prevent sinkingThe patio has 6/10/wire reinforcement to prevent cracking What the homeowner failed to state that while we were under no obligation to come back we have go back times to address her concernsThe first time was for the patio .Per code it had a hand troweled finish to make a textured finish this leaves little ridges which fall off with time she was concerned about tripping so we hand grinder them off
The second time we came back were for the small hairline cracks on the top of the stoop we filled them with Quickcrete Crackfiller and blended them as best as we could (as you can see by the pictures)

A & J Masonry was hired to replace my front stoop We ran into a disagreement when it appeared to me that the work was left unfinished and A&J Masonry wanted to be paid in full The old iron railing that I was told would be part of the new stoop was not installed I now have a new stoop with no railing The agreement to install the old, but good condition, railing was made verbally and was not included on the contract Shame on me for not reading the contract better However, I do believe they were dishonest and told me they could and would install the railing
Besides that, the work they have done has given us problems after just three months The paving stones they used have become discolored I called to tell them and show them pictures and they have repeatedly ignored my calls Part of the cement work they did on my sidewalk has cracked The caulking they used to seal up the stoop from the bottom of the doorway has rotted away already, after three months! This company has proven to be a dud, at best I would not recommend them to anyone due to poor craftsmanship (provable), and suspected dishonesty (unprovable)

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ***, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:
What they say is only half the truth. If they don't advertise then how come I found them on *** ***. First of all they may have come to the house several times after the complaint but the repair was done on one occasion which produced this complaintThey never filled the cracks on more then one occasion because if they did I would multiple repair lines which I do not. In fact I have cracks that they did not address We were told at the time of the visit bthe repair was done that the repair would not be noticeable which you can clearly see is not the case. And yes it does state on the back of the contract that cement is not guaranteed but for it to crack after only days says to me that the workmanship is lacking.
As for the patio I never complained about tripping. What I was concerned about was the little holes in certain sections of the cement which the salesman couldn't explain & that the finished edges on the patio were extremely rough & that I was concerned about my dogs pads when running & when I walk barefoot so they addressed this on the day of the repair & softened them down. The repair was done in September & the original work was done in July so when were these ridges going to fall off as they claim
I do not believe I am being unreasonable as they claim. Anyone who had spent what I did & received the quality I have would be unsatisfied as well
To paint a new stoop is ridiculous & I should not have to worry about the structure if they were to grind it down. For them to believe I'm being unreasonable is just them retaliating for this complaint because if they were in my position they would have done the same
In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question aboveSincerely,*** ***

Review: We contracted with this company on 5.**.15 for a cement patio & stoop in the back yard which they started doing on 7.**.15 & finished on 7.**.15. On 7.**.15 I noticed cracking on the new stoop so I called our salesman Kurt & notified him of this. When I was finally able to get him to come over & see the problem he said he didn't know why something like this happened but that they would repair it by using filler (which I wasn't happy with since the stoop was only 5 days old) & he said that we would not be able to detect the repair at all. He said we needed to wait 30 days for the cement to set fully which we did & then some. We finally had the repair done on 9.**.15 & when I got home & saw what had been done I was not happy & called him immediately. Not only were you able to see the cracks & patchwork but other cracks on the stoop were not addressed. Also when the stoop gets wet it looks like veins where the filler was used. Kurt never responded back so on 10.*.15 I sent an email to the address on the contract & got a call from Marcello (the owner) who said he'd stop by & take a look either on 10.*.15 or 10.**.15. He did come by & agreed to have his men come back & cut into the stoop & stairs & put a new coating over it so it would look much better which we agreed to. He said he'd be at the job while it was being repaired. We agreed to 11.**.15 for it to be done but he wasn't able to make it so we then agreed to 11.**.15. I get a call from Kurt the salesman asking where the additional crack was & that's when I said Marcello was supposed to be there since he was there last & saw what needed to be done. He also told me that if he was to cut (grind) the stoop he wanted me to sign off that if this repair weakened the stoop that they would not be responsible if something else happened which I said I would not do since this is what Marcello said would be done & that this was not told to me when Marcello told us of how it would be repaired.

Kurt said he'd be back with Marcello on 11.**.15 around 6pm but at 3.49pm I received a call from Kurt saying he wasn't able to make it that they both would be there on 11.**.15. No one came, called or replied to my texts so on 11.**.15 I again sent an email to the addresson the contract & haven't heard back since.Desired Settlement: I want my stoop to look new since it is. Not like it's years old with cracks & repairs done to it.

The second was to grind out the top of the stoop and resurface it but she would have to sign off on this repair because it not the right thing to do and we do not feel it will last . Review: I contracted in April for A & J to install a 20 by 20 patio using [redacted] pavers. When they were installed in May, I noticed a heavy white efflorescence on many of the pavers and the installer [redacted] said that was normal and the efflorescence would wear off. When the job was completed and my wife and I felt that the pavers had far too much efflorescence on them, [redacted] admitted that he was "not pleased" with the outcome and on the contract, as a condition for my final payment he wrote "powerwash and apply efflorescence remover" in the first week of September. I have attempted to call him over a dozen times and left messages asking when he plans on completing the job to no avail. He came back once - spent about a half hour trying to powerwash the pavers and then left saying he would be back and if necessary, "pop a few of the pavers out and replace them with new ones". He has not returned. It appears that several pavers need to be replaced as they are totally white with efflorescence and others need to be powerwashed and new grout needs to be placed between many of the pavers.Desired Settlement: I want A & J to return to my house and provide me with a patio of [redacted] pavers which are not white stained and with grout repaired between the pavers - If he cannot or will not return to finish what he was contractually obligated to do (as executed on a written contract), I would request a $3500 pro rated refund and the materials necessary for someone else to complete the job. I was willing to ignore other parts of the job that were not completed to my/contract satisfaction if A & J would at least honor their contractual commitment to provide a [redacted] paver patio with far less efflorescence that currently remain on the pavers.

In response to [redacted] complaint as we stated in his first complaint to your office his only problem with our job was that several of the concrete pavers hat white spots on them. We explained to him that the spots where efflorescence which occurs naturally in any cement based product and is more pronounced in colored pavers . It is not a manufacturing defect.

On average it disappears in 12 - 24 months.

The manufacture recommends you wait several months before trying to clean them

As a customer service because of their displeasure at our expense we cleaned them twice the firs time we cleaned we remove some of the spots but because of the treatment the cleaned area was a shade different we went a second time & cleaned the whole area . Some of the sand washed out and fully intended to go back and install more sand that is when [redacted] filed the first complain we went back for the third time and cleaned the whole patio . We waited for their call before install the sand and instead got notice of a second complain . There was nothing wrong with our work or the material used and were under no obligation to do anything for a naturally occurring phenomenon but because we pride ourselves on customer service and do everything in our power to satisfy our customers we went back 3 times at a cost of almost a $ 1000.00 in material and labor to try to satisfy the customer who if they would have been patient the problem would have disappeared on its own. The information and warranty are on [redacted] WED SITE . We are at a loss as to haw to satisfy [redacted] without losing more money for something that is not our fault.

A & J Masonry was hired to replace my front stoop. We ran into a disagreement when it appeared to me that the work was left unfinished and A&J Masonry wanted to be paid in full. The old iron railing that I was told would be part of the new stoop was not installed. I now have a new stoop with no railing. The agreement to install the old, but good condition, railing was made verbally and was not included on the contract. Shame on me for not reading the contract better. However, I do believe they were dishonest and told me they could and would install the railing.

Besides that, the work they have done has given us problems after just three months. The paving stones they used have become discolored. I called to tell them and show them pictures and they have repeatedly ignored my calls. Part of the cement work they did on my sidewalk has cracked. The caulking they used to seal up the stoop from the bottom of the doorway has rotted away already, after three months! This company has proven to be a dud, at best. I would not recommend them to anyone due to poor craftsmanship (provable), and suspected dishonesty (unprovable).
