Review: Oldroyd was contracted to run a gas line from our home to a newly installed generator. We paid the first half they required- $637.00- in good faith, to start the work. The pipe was improperly placed- they drillled into our red brick chimney and ran a grey pipe at waist height. It was unsightly and clearly devalued the property. After we saw the poor service we tried to negotiate a new price to run the pipe underground which they should have advised us to do in the first place. But they wanted us to complete payment on the first job and then charge us an entirely new fee to run the pipe underground. They were only willing to redo the job at no additional fee if we agreed to drop the pipe a few feet but not underground. We could not reach an agreement. I hired another plumber to complete the job to our specifications.Desired Settlement: We are not trying to recover the $637.00 that we paid. We just want them to stop pursuing the second half of the payment of $637.00. They have sent this matter to credit collecting agency.

Business

Response:

Since the complaint was filed with you Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] reconsidered and paid the outstanding invoice.

Complaint Answer:

A]. Oldroyd Plumbing and Heating, Inc. has worked many years for Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] who are fine and respectable people.

They were always satisfied with the work our Company provided and always paid their bills promptly.

Unfortunately this dispute happened.

Before the generator for the gas line was run, A. J. Oldroyd met with Mrs. [redacted] at the job site. she gave us the generator location, we showed her the path of the gas line the meter, mounted to the side of the house, and run over the ground to the generator location. This is the normal way generator gas lines are run. A.J. Oldroyd Plumbing & Heating has done many generators over the last four (4) years, typically two (2) to three (3) a week. When the generator is located away the house or the area is pristine we sometimes run the line underground at a much higher cost. None of these things were present at thisjob site. The generator is located on the side of the house there is a gas meter, electric meter, electric panels and air conditioning condensers in the same area.

A.J. Oldroyd sent Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] a Proposal stating everything mentioned above (see attached). They agreed to the work and sent a deposit to do the work. We waited for the generator to be installed (by others), and then ran our gas pipe and called for the plumbing inspection. the work was completed, Mr. [redacted] complained the gas line was run to high. The plumbing technician, who did the work, ran the line at the same height as the gas meter connection.

This is a good plumbing practice as it limits the amount of pipe fittings used and helps with the gas flow. We met Mrs.[redacted] at the job site, explained to her why it was run this way but to make her happy and satisfied, the plumbing inspection we would return to lower it for her at “no charge” and she agreed.

The plumbing inspection passed and we called Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] to schedule an appointment to return to lower the

line and to collect our final payment. At this time Mrs. [redacted] stated she was not satisfied and wanted the line run

underground. Since this involved more work then we originally agreed on, we sent Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] a new proposal

for the additional work, which we said we could do as soon as the original invoice was paid. There was much back and

forth communications between the Maddi’s and A. J. Oldroyd Plumbing & Heating, Inc., who sincerely tried to work

and reach an agreement with them but could not.

A. J. Oldroyd went on a planned vacation for one (1) week, and upon his return immediately contacted Mr. & Mrs.

[redacted] to follow up with this issue. Mrs. [redacted] said she could not wait and was going in another direction with

another plumber. We thanked her and told her we were sorry that we could not satisfy her. She was requested to please pay the remaining part of the work A. J. Oldroyd Plumbing & Heating, Inc. did as per the original proposal, then had inspected and was passed by the plumbing inspector. After approximately nine (9) months of not receiving payment,

we unfortunately turned Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] over to a collection company. Then Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] filed this complaint with the Revdex.com.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: Oldroyd is, disappointingly, playing with words. This is a small town and we were very loyal customers. You would think Oldroyd would have worked harder to resolve this situation. It was a hideous looking job and it should never had to have been cleaned up by another plumber. Furthermore, to send our account to a disreputable collection agency, [redacted] & [redacted], (just google them) who hounded us was the final straw. This was never about money...it was about principle and good practice. We have paid what was owed to Oldroyd. We will never use them again and will be sure friends and neighbors are aware of our experience with them.
