A Lil Ones Learning Center Reviews (%countItem)

After the flood my son was put in A lil ones LC. I know they werent dealt a fair hand having so many extra kids there but I paid a curriculum fee and my son is 5 not knowing his Letters sounds and numbers. They went through 4 teachers in 1 year and my husband and I came to the director with concerns for our sons education and she assured us he is learning. He started Kindergarten and is struggling. I met with my sons teacher and she is having to pull him aside to teach him things he was suppose to learn in pre- k. I told her we sent him to little ones. I called little ones after the meeting with the teacher and asked if they would be able to pay for some of the Sylvan tutoring my son now needs after them. I was told they will call back with an answer for me. I had to call them 3 hours later and she told me she spoke with 3 other parents and they say their kids are doing good. I told her at the "so called" graduation the kids singing the alphabet had it jumbled and singing it wrong. She said the graduation was thrown together. Something as simple as singing the alphabet shouldnt need rehearsing so I know its not just my son struggling. She told me she thinks my son will catch on in time and I should just wait. I paid 150 a week to have my son at a learning center where he wasnt taught. I know the people care for the children and maybe they have new teachers there now but I feel they shouldve wanted to help sense my sons education was neglected. Despite what they say my son has no issues learning now that he is being taught pre k at home and had no problem before lil ones. It is a shame because I do like the director personally but my kids will never go back to this center.

A Lil Ones Learning Center Response

Ms. son was 4 years and 8 months when he started here on August 22, 2016. He attended until May 15, 2017. It is true that he did have four teachers during that time. His first teacher had a baby in December. His second teacher left to return as a teacher in the school system and then he had two teachers that taught together in his classroom until he left. All four teachers were certified to teach Pre K by the Louisiana Department of Education. When Ms. came in asking for us to pay for her son's tutoring, the director came to me for my opinion. I have operated A Lil One's Learning Center for 36 years and have never had a request like that before. I asked the director to check with other parents of children in that class that had gone to Kindergarten programs in our area to see if they were also having difficulties. The Kindergarten programs represented private, parochial and public schools so I felt that would be an excellent gauge to see if we had exposed the children to the proper fundamentals necessary for success in Kindergarten. Our parents informed us that their children were doing quite well and they felt they were adequately prepared. All children do not learn at the same rate. Many children by the time they are 4 years old already know letter sounds and numbers. Some children mature at a later date and need specialized instruction such as Sylvan offers. I am very glad to hear that her son is doing well academically now. However, I do not think that it is our responsibility to pay for his tutoring. Over the years I have often said that we should tape the Pre K rehearsals because the children perform so much better than they do when they are confronted with a room full of strangers watching their every move. I wish I had recorded it for Ms. so that she could see how the children performed when they were in a familiar environment with their friends and teachers.
