I also will be attending school next month and I always have a child that I take to school so needing a car will be very convient to me.I just want to come to a conclusion that is all. I never had problems with purchasing a car and I don't work just want to come to an agreement.Business Response /[redacted]/Mr. [redacted] and Mrs. [redacted] purchased a vehicle that we were selling at cost on February 24, 2014. The vehicle was sold without a warranty and was AS IS. The vehicle's book value at the time of sale was $3425. It had a clean title and the mileage was accurate. We gave them a copy of the vehicle's Autocheck report showing these attributes of the vehicle at the time of the sale. We sold them the vehicle at cost for $2482 which was even lower than the average asking price for a Mercury Mystique GS according to Black Book USA. The vehicle had only 111,677 miles on it when it was sold. The amount that Mrs. [redacted] lists, as a purchasing price of $2996.46, actually includes the fees that we collected on behalf of the state of North Carolina for title, taxes, tags, doc fee, registration and transfers. In response to Mrs. [redacted]' complaint, the only issue that she had prior to leaving the lot was that her window would not function properly and that one of her gauges had stopped working. I offered to replace her window motor or regulator (whichever was needed) and charge her a dollar. This was a mistake, in that Mrs. [redacted] now expects that all repairs are free of charge or a dollar. The simple fact is that the vehicle was sold without a warranty at cost and was sold AS IS. There is not an implied warranty nor was one constituted verbally. To date, our shop has been the only one incurring repair costs because Mrs. [redacted] refuses to pay us for any of the repairs. Mrs. [redacted] has not paid for any of the repairs or tows that were required after her purchase. We paid for the towing bill of $50 to [redacted]'s Towing on February 24, 2014 when her vehicle was delivered to our mechanic shop. The complaint at that time was that the vehicle was idling improperly and that it had cut off. While the tow truck driver, [redacted], was here, we took the keys from him and started the vehicle without any problem. We then took the vehicle and drove it all the way to Hillsborough Road and back without any issues (approximately 10 miles away). We shut the vehicle off and let it sit for a while. We went back out to the vehicle, and again, it started right up and ran fine. That night, we had one of our technicians drive the vehicle home and back the next morning. He lives approximately 45 minutes away. He did not experience any issues. Mrs. [redacted] insisted that it cut off with her and that her family's lives were in danger. The only issue we found was that the vehicle's idle was slightly lower than average. It never stalled with us nor cut off, but to make the vehicle idle more rapidly, we replaced the crank shaft position sensor and the idle air control valve. This repair took place on February 25, 2014. We drove the vehicle again and the idle had improved. We called Mrs. [redacted] and she picked her vehicle back up on February 28, 2014. At the time that she picked the vehicle up the mileage was 111,769. That is nearly 100 miles that were put on the vehicle in two days. Mrs. [redacted] never paid us the $50 for the tow or the $61.70 for the parts. She also never paid us for the labor to replace the parts nor $20 in gas that we put in the vehicle. On March 3, 2014, when Mrs. [redacted] brought the vehicle back to our shop again, she complained of running issues once again. At this point the mileage on the vehicle was 111,842. Upon inspecting the vehicle, we believe that it is very possible that Mrs. [redacted] used some tainted gas (tainted with water or some other liquid) after her purchase which has resulted in fouling her fuel delivery system. We cleared the lines for her, which cleared up those issues and drove the vehicle a long distance once again without incident. We then called her to come and pick up the vehicle. Again, Mrs. [redacted] brought the vehicle back on March 10, 2014. The issues that came to light after Mrs. [redacted] drove the vehicle off of our lot, did NOT exist prior to the sale of this vehicle. We had just driven and inspected the vehicle approximately two months prior to her purchase. It passed without issue. Going forward, Mrs. [redacted] is welcome to use a different mechanic shop or even take the vehicle to a Ford / Lincoln / Mercury dealership to have repairs executed. It is her vehicle. It has been titled in her name and it has been registered to her. She is responsible for the upkeep, care, maintenance and repairs to the vehicle. I will no longer repair her vehicle without being compensated for it as it is her car and she is responsible for paying for all repairs. I am not sure if someone else has tried to fix her vehicle and messed up some aspect of the fuel delivery system or spark delivery system, but she is ultimately responsible for her vehicle. It is currently, March 19, 2014 and we are still waiting for Mrs. [redacted] to pick up her car.
