Customer came in with a no start issue, which required the fuel pump to be replaced, customer did approve the job. After fuel pump was replaced, truck started but ran poorly. At this time the customer declined any further repair and he took the truck. At a later date the
customer returned to have the truck checked concerning the start and die problemThe technician spoke to him aboutpossible tuissue and recommended he not do any type of work himself so that he could diagnose easier and scheduled him to come back in a couple days.Customer returned after the week-endWhile talking with the mechanic, he informed him that a buddy and himself had done a tuon the truck, but still had the same problem, and was wondering if the fuel pump we had installed was failingFirst step was to check the fuel pressure from the pump, it was well within the specification and asked the customer to come by to see in personWhile he was here, he and the tech talked about other possibilities of the problem, and he asked for it to be figured out, and contact with info. The mechanic proceeded to check out the truckHooked up the scan tool which led him in the direction of parts to check. Unfortunatly, sometimes some things need to be removed during testing processThe sensor was not reading and in need of replacement. Catalytic converter pipe was so rusty, while trying to remove the bung twisted off the pipe. Informed customer of degraded exhaust component and informed customer that repair of bung might not be possible du to rusty pipeHowever I was able to repair the bung, but the cat was still clogged and needing replacedCustomer did not want to purchase new cat, he asked about hollowing it out and was told that is illegal for a shop to do that, so instead HE TOOK and hollowed it out at a friends houseThe manifold did crack, which is a risk when removing rusted exhaust bolts, which we are not responsible forThe customer did pay for the manifold but was charged at our costThere were no other charges for labor or anything elseWe have no problem in working on this truck, at no cost to help to help the customer out, and would have before now.(Job was done in January) All he needed to do was call to let us know his feeling on the issue
