Timeline of Events:
On or about May 14, 2015, A-OK Electric Coreceived a request from the customer to provide a quote for wiring
of a Rinnai water heater at his home at *** *** *** *** Greensboro, North Carolina
Mr*** R*** and Mr*** D*** of A-OK Electric Cowent to the customer's home on May to analyze the scope of the work to be done
MrD*** returned to his office and performed a load calculation to determine whether the load on the existing service was allowableWhen he determined it was allowable, he contacted the customer to let him knowAt that time, he quoted the customer a total of $2,for the job
The customer immediately accepted the quote of $2,660.00, adding that it sounded great because the homeowner's association indicated they would pay up to $5,for completion of the jobHe asked when the work could begin, and MrD*** told him that he could get the materials that day and begin the work the following day
As promised, the next day the work beganThe customer provided direction for running conduit, and he also requested that a larger panel be installed in order for him to add more outlets in the kitchen
After completing the rouwiring, the customer said he would contact A-OK Electric after his plumber installed the new water heater, so the wiring could be completedAt that time, he said that everything looked great
A few weeks later, the customer let A-OK know that the homeowner's association would not allow him to run conduit up the front wall of the buildingHe asked if the conduit could be run on the back wall through the concrete deckMrD*** told him that in order for that to be done, the customer would have to have a structural engineer to approve the drilling of a hole through the structureThe customer said that he would check on it and let A-OK know when it was approved
After several months passed without hearing from the customer, A-OK left him a phone message and then emailed himFinally, he responded and said that he still did not have approvalAt the same time, he let A-OK know that he was going to paint the conduit that had been installed on the front of the building black and install a gutter over it to hide it
Again, months passed without hearing anything from the customer, so A-OK emailed him an invoice for the work that had been completed
On October 29, 2015, A-OK received an email from the customer requesting a cost breakdown on the jobMrD*** reminded him that he had accepted a contract price, but he continued to request a breakdownFinally, he said that his estate attorney needed the breakdown in order for us to be paid, and A-OK Electric responded by emailing to him the cost breakdown the same day
After another two weeks had passed with no communications from the customer, MrR*** called and left a voice message for him asking him to return the callHe did not return the call
A-OK followed up with another email asking the customer if he had an update for themThe customer responded by email stating that his estate attorney had all of the paperwork and he would have an update in two weeks
After three weeks passed without hearing from the customer, A-OK emailed him to say that the debt would have to be turned over to a collection agencyThere was still no response
Summary Notes:
Electrical Permit Number XXXXXXXXX was obtained for the job
The job did not have any known code violations, as an electrical inspection has not been done on the jobMrD*** of A-OK Electric was an Electrical Inspector Level III in the State of North Carolina for yearsA-OK Electric knows the codes fully and understands the importance of adhering to them at all times
A-OK Electric never heard any complaints from the customer about the work that had been completed or how it was performedWe were never asked to move or change anythingWe would have helped with any problems if asked, but we were never askedThe customer simply stopped communicating and ignored our request for payment for the work that had been completed
From A-OK's perspective, it is apparent that the customer made the mistake of accepting our cost estimate and having us install the wiring before he obtained approval from the homeowner's associationNow he is trying to put blame on us so he will not have to pay for the work
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 9, 2016/02/03) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
As for complaints, I have emailed there constantly with my complaints, gotten alternative quotes for the project they 2/3rds completed when I stopped the projectI basically told them I do not wish to communicate with them and will hire another electrical contractor to remove the job that have violated with the stateThe State Electrical Board investigated this problem and currently they have violated several time codesThey are getting a fine and a probationary period for what they did to my placeThe Electrical State Board stated this too me and said the are notorious for not filing any city permits when doing a jobThe city permit they say they had gotten was filed months after I started comparing and when the State Board of Electrical Contractors contacted themI have been working closely with the City of Greensboro Electrical Inspectors and no city permit was filed before the job had stated..Per there website, they state they are a christian organization, this is not how you do businessIf they persist, I will contact the media as a final step
Final Business Response /* (4000, 16, 2016/04/13) */
I hate to be late with this but I have just gotten out of the Hospital 04/12/Now everything that Mr*** has said has not been the truth there have never been any code vilation on this jobThe only Vilation on this Job was a paper work vilation and the reason for that is we did not optain the permit because he kept telling us that they were not going to let him complete the job and we would have to remove jobMR*** kept putting us off so I we went ahead got the permitt and told the city why we wated so longThis man is just makeing up all of these allegations and he cannot prove a thing he has said and he is going to have to prove it in a court of law because we are suing him for these statments.further more there has never been a city of Greensboro electrical inspector oe a state electrical inspector been on this job,so he has just been makeing up these accusationfurthermore the only thing that this man is trying to do is not pay us for a job that he did not get approvel for before he started the jobAll this will come out in acourt of lawWe have hired an attorney and he has been in contact with Mr *** and has advise us not discuss mater any further
