Review: Todays date is Tuesday, 8/13/2014. Contractor Complaint # [redacted] On Sunday 7/13/2014 our a/c unit quit. I found Mr. [redacted] A/C business A plus Global System license #[redacted], In a Google search of line of licensed contractors. I called him he said he could come out right away and install a new 3 ton unit in our mobile home that day. He did not take out a permit to do the job until 7/15/2014. Our mobile home is an older model (1968) that came with a 3 ton unit. Mr. [redacted] said the price to replace that unit with a new 3 ton unit would be 2,800 dollars. But when he came back with the new 2.5 unit the price jumped to 3,100 dollars. No explanation was given except to say that the smaller unit would work fine. (I know now it was because the 2.5 unit is cheaper). So he installed the smaller unit. At this point Im starting to question what he was doing. He also forged my name to papers leaving him clear of any wrong doing. I will include a copy.My next door neighbors have the same size mobile home as ours and just replaced their a/c with a 3.5 ton unit and they say it works great, so I took him over to see theres. I asked Mr. [redacted] why is didnt go with a larger unit? At this point he started screaming at me, saying hes been doing this for 25 years and he knew what he was doing. He remained screaming at me during the entire job. He was so abusive I was glad to see him leave. Mr. [redacted] did the entire job using as little material as possible. The job he did does not meet code standards. I contacted 2 other a/c contractors to come out and inspect the job done by Mr. [redacted]. They both said the work he did was bad and not done to code and he should never under size what is recommended by the manufacturer. They both say a 2.5 ton unit is too small to ever properly cool our mobile home. I have a report from one of them; I will include it with this document. One of the contractors said he was screaming because he knew he was wrong, and wanted to intimidate me. The other contractor asked me how much he charged to do this job; I told him the charge was $3,100 dollars. He told me he just installed the same 2.5 unit and charged $2,400 for the job and his installation was done to code. Yesterday the inspection was done. And it failed and now it must be re-inspected when the work gets done. On hot days the smaller unit has to run 10 to 11 hours a day to reach 85 degrees inside and it runs well into the evening, about 10:30 or so.Until now Mr. [redacted] had been not answering my calls or messages I left him, but on Sunday, 8/10/2014 I finally reached Mr. [redacted] by phone and asked him to come out and finish his job, his response was, to hung up on me. So now I see just what Im dealing with. Mr. [redacted] is an a/c con artist, a thief that rips people off with no regard for anything but his profit. I can see clearly now, he is only in it for the money. The state inspection was done yesterday and as we expected it failed nothing he did was done to code. (All of the problems are listed in the report of what another contractor found wrong with this job). He also has sabotaged this job. The motor in the new unit is a 220 volt, 3 phase motor he has clipped 2 of the 3 wires inside the unit so it is no longer a 3 phase motor and it now must now work harder. He also left the unit under charged of Freon so now it must work harder. These problems found by the other contractors will cost my more money. The cost to bring this job up to meet code and the cost of another inspection is ($195.00) will bring total cost of repairs up to $1,000 dollars or more. I dont think I should be responsible to pay for his bill.Mr. [redacted] is an unethical, unscrupulous man who only cares about his profit. Because Mr. [redacted] did all of this on purpose, with no regard for anybody else, and refuses to fix the problem, I feel it should be his responsibility to pay for his wrong doing and no body elses. I would like to see him lose his contractors license and go to Jail.Im 67 years old, disabled and my only source of income is my social security that is already not enough to pay the bills. Im broke 1 week to 10 days before I get my SS check. I want my money back for this a/c installation gone bad. Because now I must and get the proper size a/c unit for my home and pay somebody else finish the job correctly.Desired Settlement: I would like to see him give me the money back I paid him. lose his contractors license and go to Jail.
