Review: When our furnace stopped working on 12-22-1013 I called [redacted] at A&R Heating and asked him if he would come and find the problem. He said it would be at least an hour, and after several more phone calls to him, arrived 4 or 5 hours later. Too late in the day to call another service. He didn't give a quote, but said it would be 'reasonable'. He quickly found and replaced the faulty part. He was here less than an hour. I found online that the part could be bought for about $70.He charged $150 for the Sunday service call, and diagnosis. He then added a charge of $325 for the cost of the part and installation and a 1 year warranty on parts and labor, which I told him I didn't want. He just said it was his policy to do this. Because it was below freezing, I didn't feel I had the option to refuse this.He basically charged $255 for 15 min of labor and a warranty I didn't want!Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of $200. After paying $150 just to have him show up, I feel $55 is reasonable for the 10 or 15 minutes he spent replacing the small part.I would also like to warn others not to trust [redacted], who is very friendly and personable.

We apologize for not responding to this complaint in a more timely manner, but due to

the unusually cold weather we have been experiencing, we have been extremely busy.

On Sunday, December 22, 2013 I was called by [redacted] to [redacted]

[redacted] for a no heat service call. I was on another service call at the time he called

and said it would be at least an hour. It took me longer than expected at the service call 1 was at

but I did speak with him several times and assured him I would be coming even though we were

in the midst of a huge snowstonn. He said he would be fine as they had space heaters. After

arriving at [redacted]'s home, I proceeded to trouble shoot the furnace problem. Pricing was never

discussed nor did J use the tenn "reasonable." I tested the furnace and found the problem. I

went to my truck, found the part, came back and installed it. I charged $150 for the Sunday

service call and diagnosis and my nonnal charge for the part he needed which comes with a one

year warranty on parts and labor. That is what I sell it for. We never discussed "policy" or

"below freezing." People need to understand that you can purchase anything on line, but there is

no warranty on those parts, and you will wait several days for the part to arrive. [redacted] wanted

heat now, and he didn't know what was wrong with his furnace, so I'm not sure how he would

have known what part to order on line. That's why he called me.

[redacted] is not due any refund of money, and further it is my understanding that he is not

even the owner of the home, but is a renter. I have been in business for over 25 years and have

many very satisfied repeat customers who know they can trust me.

My girlfriend hired this company because she new him, One part of the furnace needing replacement , the heat exchanger which was a warranty issue where he was being reimbursed by the dealer and should have been covered he added that money to his bill to get double payed. When confronted by me all I heard was lies and **. How many others has he double charged? stay away from this guy any recall or warranty issue make sure you check with the dealer and find out what your repair guy should be charging you. 2 other repair shops confirmed his bill was about 300.00 to much!!!!

Review: Saturday 1/18 my furnace stopped working. I looked I'm the yellow pages & found A&R Heating & Airconditioning. I called and [redacted] answered the phone & I realized he fixed my furnace in the past. I explained my furnace was not producing heat and I was getting a code of 34 ignition proving failure. [redacted] explained there would be a $75 fee, I asked does that include getting fixed. [redacted] said if it was a fix without a part, he would fix it; otherwise it would be the cost of the part. [redacted] came & said it was the ignitor. While [redacted] was there he was talking about how nice my house was & kept talking about my 60 inch tv. [redacted] stated he had to go to the store to get the part since he did not have one. I asked [redacted] how much was the part, he said he didn't know he would call me when he got to the store. [redacted] went & got the part & called when he was almost at my house. He never told me how much the part was. It got back to my house and in less then 10 min he was done. [redacted] stated since I was a return client he would charge a service fee of $50 instead of $75. I asked for my total, [redacted] told me $292 and some change. I thought that was a lot but had to pay it. I asked did [redacted] take credit or bank card and he said no. I had $275 and explained it had to go to the time machine. [redacted] was in a hurry because he had to go to Cudahy. I went to the time machine & he met me on 60th & Villard. I gave [redacted] $20 and asked for my receipt. [redacted] stated he didn't have invoice but wrote the 1 year warranty for the ignitor on the furnace. I left and called [redacted] leaving a voice message stating I still wanted my receipt & left my address telling him he can drop it in the mail. I called [redacted] to make sure he got my message, [redacted] stated he would just drop the receipt off & drop it in my mail slot. [redacted] asked how much did he charge me, I thought that was odd, but told him $295. Since [redacted] asked how much he charged me I didn't feel comfortable about that. Wednesday I called 3 other heating & cooling places, the 1st place quoted me at $140, the 2nd place $125 & the 3rd place $133. I was so disappointed that [redacted] charged me double. I called [redacted] Thursday still waiting on my receipt, I didn't say anything about the other places, I wanted my receipt first. I asked [redacted] about my receipt & he asked me to be patient. I explained I have been patient & I should have gotten my receipt Saturday when I paid him. [redacted] explained he has been busy, but it don't take a lot to,put a receipt in the mail. I am complaining about not getting my receipt and being over charged to have my furnace fixed. I feel [redacted] thought I had a lot of money due to what I had in my house & felt he can charge me what he wants. I called around & the parent was $33. [redacted] charged me $260 for labor for 20 min. That is a rip off. I feel I should get half of my money back.Desired Settlement: I would like my receipt & half my money back based off the cost from 3 other heating & air company's in Milwaukee.

Response:

I was called by [redacted] for a no heat service call on Saturday, January 18, 2014. Given it was a

Saturday, I told her it was a $75 service call and diagnosis fee. When I arrived I tested the furnace and

found it was a bad igniter. Due to the high volume of no heat service calls I had in January, I was out of

this part in my truck. I went to a parts store to purchase the part. I returned to her house, installed the

new part and told her that as she was a repeat customer, I would only charge her a $50 service call and

diagnosis fee, instead of the normal $75 I would charge on a Saturday. I then explained to her that it

was $225 for a one year part and labor warranty on the part she needed. (Most companies only give

you a one year warranty on the part but not on labor). The breakdown of costs is: $50 service

call/diagnosis; $225 for the part and labor to install the part; $15.40 was tax; for a total of $290.40. She

gave me cash (after she made a trip to the time machine). I stated I was out of invoices and said I would

get her one.

I apologize for the lateness of this reply and my mailing of the receipt, but my mother became

very ill and passed away shortly after this service call. I will mail a receipt promptly.

As for the fact that 1 told her she had Cl nice TV, I often compliment customers on such things.

My pricing has absolutely nothing to do with how nice a customer's house is or how big their TV is. I

charge the same price to anyone who needs an igniter, which price includes a part and labor warranty

for one year. As I had already given her a reduction in the price of the Saturday service call, and I am

sure the other three companies she called after the fact did not include a one year labor warranty in

their priCing, I will not be refunding her any money for my Saturday service call to fix her furnace.

Sincerely,

Consumer
