On the first call our service writer said that he never told Mr*** what he would be charged for but that he would have to talk with the owner to find out what the charges would be. Damages were discussed but he did not state what he would be charged for on that first call.. On the second call he was told that after talking to the owner he would be charged for what the damages were. He said he never told him that he would not be charged for a tire. Some of the terminology being used is differing between parties it appears. The trailer does not have a hub but a drum. The drum was not replaced. What was replaced was the rim, the tire, and studs which go into the drum which is being called a hub. Studs can work themselves loose. Manufacturers will tell you that studs should be checked periodically
Again, he told the front girl that he was going to be late because when he went to leave the tire was flat and AAA would not come onto the beach. He had to drive it out to the street which can be about miles or more. There is an air service on the beach that will air your tires up for $1/each. He told the secretary that the tire was coming off the rim. When he came in she told him the rental employee was out to lunch and he would check him in after lunch, which was 1/hour. She said they seemed very edgy and antsy and said they could not wait. As stated earlier, the damage was not obvious. It was when the trailers was pulled off that the way the trailer moved showed there was some damage.
His labor fee was $95.38, which is 1/our labor rate, in order to lessen the cost to him. The charge for parts was $+ tax. I had told the secretary to refund the $which is the difference between the $deposit and what he is being charged for the damages, but she misunderstood me and it has not been refunded. She is doing that today. I apologize for the delay in refunding that part.
Again, the facts that we have been given by the renter show to us that he took on a risk in lowering the pressure in the tires, which is a common practice, but even more so in that he drove for miles with a flat tire. I am sorry for the damages but I don't feel that is our responsibility but the renters, and we did lower the labor rate to try to help with his costs
Sincerely,

This customer rented a travel trailer from us to go onto the beach and he came and picked it up and towed it there.  He stated that he let the tire pressure down to 20 lb/psi which is an acceptable amount for driving on the beach at a maximum speed of 15 mph when he got to the...

beach.  He called near the anticipated time that he was to return and stated that when he went to leave the beach the one tire was flat.  He drove down the beach with the tire flat and had AAA meet him someplace on the road to come and air the tires up.  He stated that the tire was coming off of the rim when he pulled over on the road.
When you let down the tire pressure you run many risks:  valve stems can get damaged, sand can get stuck in the valve stem which allows all the air to escape, the studs can become loosened and wear out the opening they are in, rims can be damaged, etc.  Letting air out of tires creates a risk and would automatically void any warranty or guarantee on tires and wheels with anyone.  If the tire was flat as he saw, he should not have driven down the beach and onto the road without getting it fixed.   The tires were less than a year old.
We did not notice the damage to the tire until we hooked it up to drive to the back at which point an employee saw that it was not travelling correctly.  The tire was ruined due to travelling with under inflation, and the studs enlarged the holes in the rim and broke off and the rim had to be replaced.  The vibration and torque put on a rim with a flat tire is very damaging as was seen in this case.
We do not know how far down  the beach he traveled and the terrain he pulled the trailer over, or the method he used to let the air out of the tires and what the exact pressure was.  From what he told us on the phone it can be deduced that the damage was caused while he had the trailer.  We are sorry that he has incurred this expense, but the circumstances involved put him at risk for creating damage.  This extra expense is unforeseen when planning a trip and we tried to ease the burden by cutting our labor rate in half for him.  We do not feel that this should be a cost to us considering the circumstances.
Thank you.

I am rejecting this response because: we are going in circles here. The sec told me the gentleman who is in charge of inspecting the trailers was off that day. There was no air available on the beach that day. I was given a parts list on first phone call. We can go back and forth forever. This needs to be resolved immediately. If the 500.00 deposit isn't refunded by the end of July my attorney will be in contact with the company.

Review: I rented a 29.9 sprinter travel trailer to camp on the oceano dunes memorial weekend of 2014. I aired both my personal truck and rental trailer down to 20 psi using my automatic deflators. When packing up I noticed one of the tires on the rental had a flat. I waited for two hours for the AAA truck to come air the tire back up so no damage would occur to the tire or rim. After airing up, I dropped the trailer back off at ARV storage and repair. I made Diana aware that the tire loses air and that I had to air the tire up. I asked that service take a look at it. I asked if they would like to do a walk through for damage. Diana declined the walk through stating the particular employee that does walk throughs was off that day. Which was a Wensday. after leaving I received a phone call stating there was "major damage" to the trailer. I spoke to the service manager and he is claiming he had to replace the broken lug studs, hub, and tire on the trailer. This is all new to me since I took it upon myself to make sure nothing happened to my rental trailer. Lug studs break when they are not torqued down correctly, loosen up, and shear off. Making sure lug studs are tightened to the correct torque spectifiation is NOT the renters responsibility. Therefore the renter is not accountable for damage that may occur due to neglect or poor service of the trailer. The service manager is also charging me for the flat the trailer has after I was sure to tell them the tire went flat on me while camping. He said it had air when I picked it up, in turn I responded "it also had air in it when I dropped it off". Which tells me the tire was aired up before I arrived to hook up. And lost air over a period of time. I am not responsible for the damage of the tire that was already bad nor am I responsible for the damage to the lug studs and hub that they are accusing me of. I would like my deposit that they are holding back payed in full and warn everyone to steer clear of ARV storage and repair.Desired Settlement: I would like my full deposit refunded back to my account.

His labor fee was $95.38, which is 1/2 our labor rate, in order to lessen the cost to him. The charge for parts was $210.40 + tax. I had told the secretary to refund the $168.97 which is the difference between the $500 deposit and what he is being charged for the damages, but she misunderstood me and it has not been refunded.
