A Service Glass Reviews (%countItem)

My wife (***) and I (***) specifically, with pictures and literature ordered a trackless all glass single door hinged tub shower door assembly. Contrarely we got a tracked hinged shower door. The first time we (my contractor and myself at "A Service Glass) survied the showroom displays, we were shown tracked and trackless doors. We were cautioned trackless doors may leak. Due to my wife's bad feet and my neuropathy of the feet, we chose the trackless. When my wife and I made a partial down payment ($1500.00), we once again afirmed trackless. At the time of installation, the installer said it was the wrong unit. At the time of the partial pymnt we asked for a contract. They said "no" that our receipt was the contract and "would make it alright."

Desired Outcome

Replace existing unit with that was originally request.

A Service Glass Response • Dec 30, 2019

The customer came into our showroom with his contractor and was given options for tracked and trackless shower doors. The customer made a comment about sending our best guy because he was difficult. Because of the fiberglass shower unit the customer has certain shower door types cannot be installed because they cannot hold the weight of particular doors. The customer was shown an example of the installed door and agreed by giving the required 50% deposit to order the door(more than the 50% deposit was given at the customers discretion). The invoice clearly states the model number for the installed door which is a Basco #1435 with Oil Rubbed Bronze Hardware and Aqua Glide Water Protection Glass. After the door was installed the customer came into the bathroom and said it was the wrong door and showed the installer a picture of what he said he ordered. The picture he showed was from a shower door sold at Home Depot which we do not sell here at A Service Glass. The customer asked that we tear the door out and install the one he had in his picture at no cost. Believing we were not at fault we declined but offered to take care of the balance remaining on his invoice. Also the door the customer said he ordered could not be installed on a fiberglass unit because of the type of door it is. We felt not requiring full payment for the door was a sufficient response for the customer under the circumstances.

In response to A Service Glass, Inc retort dtd 12/30/19 regarding the installation of the hinged tub shower glass door unit, I ll attempt to explain from my point of view what was wrong, what was stated to be outright false in the order it was written. 1) It is stated that the customer (that being me *** J ***) with my contractor *** were given the "option" for a track or trackless door unit. This was discussed before any agreements or monies was finalized. Remember this as it is later said the trackless units leaked. If this was the case then why would they even give the option or further more even sell it? 2) Yes, I did ask for their (A Service Glass) best technician. It was not because I was "difficult" but because the existing door opening was an odd ball size and not properly parallel and I didn't want a poorly fitting finished project. I wanted someone who knew what he/she doing to assure accurate measurements for proper gaping to minimize leaking, door sag, door rubbing causing chipping or or even breakage. 3) Regarding the door unit weight. I too was concern about the installation as previously noted. Again, this is why I wanted the best technician. When he did finally come to the house (after several no show appointments and our making many inquiring phone calls as to what was going on) I asked the gentleman if he was an experienced installer with this type of installation being glass and all. He assured me he was. I asked if the new tub surround would be strong enough to support the unit. He said yes. I asked if my contractor should install a wood bolster in the surround for added strength. He said he has done many installations and that this would not be required. I asked if he warrantied his work; that I would accept shoddy work. He said yes and if I wasn't happy he would comeback and make things right. I asked if the trackless unit would be problem, he said no. This the same gentleman who after the installation was almost completed when I came into the bath in front of *** when I stated the unit was wrong said to *** "I knew he (referring to me) wouldn't be happy". 4) The A service Glass company rep stated that the invoice labeled the door installation a Basco #1435 w/ ORB hardware. How were we to know what that meant? Were we presented at any time given any literature, brochure, drawing or anything to reference this number to? No we were not. I didn't even obtain a written contract even after asking for one. The lady in sales said our receipt was our contract and if we had any problems that A Service Glass would take care of any disputes. 5) Yes, I did come into the bath at the near end of the installation and in doing so knew immediately it was wrong. After some back and forth discussion with the installer, the tech said I would have to it up with the company. *** said at this time that these people are up to no good and try to take advantage of old folks. 6) It is a bold face lie when stated we wanted something "at no cost". We entered into this agreement in good faith. We presented sample pictures, literature, drawings, measurements, a professional contractor to speak on my behalf to use explicit language to help explain our desires. In return for $1,500.00 cash, we were given the wrong unit as requested, and a hard time to my wife, to Charlie and myself. Even after send an exploratory letter and multiple phone calls did we find out that A Service Glass, Inc just write us off. Their lack of common business courtesies cause us to delay the start of our second bath which we wanted completed before the holidays and will now cost more. 7) As a footnote I want to mention that I come from a family of very skilled detailed intelligent people. My brother *** a GM specialist who has traveled the world over, trouble shooting major problems including setting up new plants. Brother ***, a very highly skilled machinist at Monsanto has made what seemed to be impossible parts and matching assemblies for the government and NASA. Some of his accomplishments was the making items for moon landings and other out of this world things. Brothers *** & *** were pattern makes for the auto industry which had to be perfect for safety, reliability, function, design, continuity with other assemblies and cost. Myself, I was a planner - estimator at WPAFB. I worked all labor disciplines to plumbing, electrical, steam, carpentry, masonry, painting, fire systems, sewage etc. for all of areas of A, B & C. I had to determine labor hours, what materials to be used and in what quantities, made layouts, drawings, sketches, designs, colors, handi-cap capabilities and regulations, customer needs and wants and write contracts. In the end compiled all cost and hours for budgeting and scheduling. I too was sent around the globe and won many awards. 8) I still have the package of info I took to A Service Glass, Inc for your review exactly as was presented. Ms ***, I want to thank you for your time and courtesies. *** from Dayton OH

We have no further comment on this matter. The accusation that we would take advantage of anyone is completely false. We have been in business for over 60 years and believe our reputation speaks for itself. We work very hard to make sure all of our customers are happy and we are also not satisfied with this result but also feel we have been accommodating with the Crafts under the circumstances by not requiring payment of the unpaid balance.
